Q2 Tablet Shipments Fall, But Prices Rise As Pro Slates Gain Share

Tablet shipments fell year-on-year in the 2016 second quarter, while average selling prices headed the other way, as pro slates enjoy increasing popularity, according to a new Strategy Analytics report.

Strategy figures show tablet shipments fell 8 per cent year-on-year to 46.7 million units while average selling prices climbed 9 per cent.

Strategy states that pro slates, such as the iPad Pro and Surface Pro 4, are being purchased by both consumers and enterprises more "than ever before as prices reach tolerable levels and as computing behaviours and needs shift toward more mobility and touchscreen interfaces".

"iPad has marked 10 quarters of annual shipment declines, but some light is now visible at the end of the tunnel," Peter King, Strategy service director, tablet & touchscreen strategies service, commented.

"In the same way that Windows tablets gained market share with a wide range of premium-to-low-tier 2-in-1 tablets, Apple is riding consumer and enterprise demand for 2-in-1s with multiple price tiers of buy-in to its vision of what a converged computing device can achieve.

"Meanwhile, Android has not been able to break out of its cost-conscious, entertainment-focused roots, and until true multi-tasking is available across the installed base, this perception will remain reality. Still, low-cost traditional slate tablets devoted to entertainment do hold value for consumers, reflected in Android's 64 per cent share."

Eric Smith, Strategy senior analyst, tablet & touchscreen strategies service, observed that pressure is being placed on the industry by mobile-first vendors "to release more reasonably priced, yet still powerful, 2-in-1 tablets".

"Apple, Huawei and Samsung are just the latest companies to join the segment at a time when consumers and enterprises are more receptive to the functionality and affordability of these converged computing devices," Smith stated.

"In return, higher average selling prices of 2-in-1 tablets, compared to traditional slates, have returned more profit back to tablet vendors across the spectrum as people around the world begin making the choice between upgrading their PCs, tablets, or just going with one converged 2-in-1 device for the home and business."

strategy

Strategy found that Apple (iOS) shipped 10 million iPads in the quarter, down 9 per cent year-on-year and 3 per cent sequentially, capturing a 21 per cent share of the market. The first full quarter of iPad Pro 9.7 sales helped drive average selling prices to US$490, contributing to Apple's best quarter in two years.

Android vendors shipped 30.1 million units, down 15 per cent year-on-year and flat sequentially, with market share falling to 64 per cent, impacted by the high growth of Windows tablet shipments.

Strategy notes "a reordering underway among Android vendors in the middle tier, so even though shipments by large vendors like Samsung have fallen, smaller vendors like Huawei, Amazon and TCL Alcatel continue to expand their reach".

Windows shipments, meanwhile, grew 43 per cent year-on-year and 5 per cent sequentially to 6.7 million units, claiming a 14 per cent market share, with more models being launched by traditional PC vendors and mobile-first vendors, while Microsoft expands its Surface distribution and line-up, and white box vendors sell more Windows tablets.

iPad Mini 5 Release Date, Rumors: Thinner Apple Tablet To Ditch Headphone Jack Like iPhone 7

Apple is rumored to launch the fifth iteration of its successful iPad Mini series this October. It is worth noting however, that like the iPhone 7, the iPad Mini 5 may not come with the universal 3.5mm headphone jack.

On Saturday, Neurogadget revealed that the iPad Mini 5 will most likely launch around the same time the iPhone 7 and the MacBook Pro 2016 are unveiled to the public.

If renowned Twitter leaker Evan Blass were right, the iPhone 7 and its other variants, as well as Apple's other products, will be showcased to the public in early September.

Nonetheless, though the launch date and release date of the device are still unknown, most Apple fans are already excited to know if the iPad Mini 5 is worth the upgrade.

So far, it is rumored that Apple is keeping the 7.9-inch display for this iteration, since it has become the hallmark of the iPad Mini series.

However, since Apple likes to challenge itself in manufacturing ultra-thin devices, fans could be awaiting the arrival of a Mini tablet that is only 5mm thick, according to Mobile & Apps.

A 5mm width would be way thinner than the iPad Mini 4's 6.1mm thickness. While this could be perceived as a great idea by many consumers, the reduced width would only indicate the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack from the device.

Recent reports are claiming that Apple is going to get rid of the universal headphone jack in favor of lightning peripherals for its new devices.

Meanwhile, loyal Apple fans would be delighted to know that the iPad Mini 5 could sport Apple's A9 processor on the inside. This would be a great addition to the device, since this would mean the tablet would have better gaming graphics.

In addition, the new Mini is expected to come with an 8-megapixel back camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing shooter, Mirror reported.

Since the device is going to be thinner, it is very likely that the battery pack will not be big enough to provide long hours of battery life.

Nexus Android Nougat Release: 5 Things to Get Excited About

Google has promised to deliver the Android N update sometime this summer, and owners with the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P and more are getting excited. With the Android 7.0 Nougat release date and possibly new Nexus phones near, we want to go over a few details for users.

Earlier this year and way ahead of schedule Google announced and released a developer preview of Android N in March, confirmed more details in May, and in July released the 5th and final preview. Being in final form the official release date is almost here.

Read: How to Install Android N Preview 5 Right Now

Last month Google officially announced Android N will be called Android 7.0 Nougat, and then stated it's still on track for a release this summer. Most of the features, UI changes and behavior is now final and more will be coming when it's available to everyone. Below are the exciting details Android users need to know about.

    Android-N-main2

On stage at IO Google detailed multiple exciting features that will be in Android Nougat, many of which we already knew about. A revamped notification system, improved performance and battery life, multi-window mode to run two apps at the same time, doze battery changes and much more. There's too much to list, but our breakdown below goes over many of the new additions owners can expect to see.

Update: At the end of June multiple leaks and rumors surfaced about Google's new Nexus phones for 2016, a redesigned navigation bar in Android N, to even a new Google Support screen sharing and 24/7 live help app similar to Amazon Mayday. With all this starting to surface, a release could be coming sooner than we all think.

When the time comes Google will begin rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to Nexus devices first, all of which have been participating in the beta. Those are the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and the Pixel C tablet. Missing from that list is the older Nexus 5 smartphone and popular Nexus 7 tablet. They could see N, but we'll have to wait and see. In even bigger news, we should see new Nexus devices too.

Read: Android N vs Android 6.0 Marshmallow: What's New So Far

Ahead of the official release of Android 7.0 Nougat this summer we're starting to see some odd behavior. One lucky Nexus 6P owner received an official and near-final version of Android 7.0 on July 29th. He received an update meant for Google employees only. It's a newer version of Android N than the latest developer preview, the beta tag has been removed, and it's also running the latest August security patch. Possibly hinting at the fact that Google is getting very close to releasing Android N.

    Android-N-early

It's a small 50MB update likely aimed at fixing bugs ahead of the global release date. Still, it's odd to see regular users receive an update that wasn't intended for the public. Is this a sign of things to come in August?

As mentioned earlier, Google promised an Android N release sometime this summer. Those months consists of June, July and August, although technically the first day of summer was June 2oth. That means we can expect to hear more soon, followed by the highly anticipated arrival of the new software before the end of next month.

Now that summer is almost over and Android N has been named Android Nougat, the release date should be here any moment now. We're now on the 5th and final developer preview, and Google is still saying they're on track for a "summer release". What does that mean?

    Android 7.0 N release timeline

    Android 7.0 N release timeline

We go over more information in the slideshow below, but one thing we've seen is a new developer preview beta once a month since March. Around the middle of the month Google has released new versions, with the 4th preview in June and now the 5th and final preview on July 18th. If we follow that schedule Android 7.0 Nougat should be released around the globe around August 15-20th. Although to meet their promise Google has until the last day in August for summer, and the end of September for "Q3".

Here are a few things everyone should be excited about, especially Nexus owners.

Nexus Android Nougat Release Details Nexus Android Nougat Release Details

As we said above nothing is confirmed yet. However, with the name now official the release date should be right around the corner.

This year Google put out the developer preview nearly three months earlier than prior models, so it's safe to assume it will be released 2-4 months earlier as well. That means that any day now the company will begin talking about it, sharing information, and gearing up for the release.

If you own any of the Nexus devices we mentioned earlier the beta is available now, and you'll be first to get Android N once it's released. The search giant hasn't made any announcements, and we likely won't see an event for the release. Instead, it will just begin arriving on smartphones and tablets around the globe. Well, unless we get new Nexus devices too.

(NASDAQ: ARNA) announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the New Drug Application (NDA) for BELVIQ XR(®) (lorcaserin HCl) CIV extended-release 20 mg tablets. The new formulation of lorcaserin will offer patients a once-a-day dosing option that may help them achieve and maintain weight loss. BELVIQ XR is expected to be available in the fall of 2016. In connection with the approval, Arena will receive a $10 million milestone payment (see also Pharmaceutical Companies).

The development of this new formulation further underscores Eisai's ongoing commitment to help address the health care needs of this underserved population."

"We are pleased that once-daily BELVIQ XR has been approved by the FDA and will provide patients another option for weight loss," said Amit D. Munshi, Arena's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The approval of this new formulation is another example of Arena's success in supporting our collaborators."

It is not known if BELVIQ or BELVIQ XR when taken with other prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal weight-loss products is safe and effective. It is not known if BELVIQ or BELVIQ XR changes your risk of heart problems, stroke, or death due to heart problems or stroke.

New Nintendo console a tablet and TV console in one

Nintendo may be going for a tablet-like high-powered device that can also function like a regular TV console for the upcoming Nintendo NX. Image INQUIRER.net

With no concrete data yet as to the release date of the Nintendo NX console, a new information gathered said that it will indeed be a hybrid device of sorts.

Wired reported that the Nintendo NX woud be a combination of a TV-based console and a portable gaming machine. It would be equipped with an NVIDIA Tegra chip, which also runs NVIDIA's Shield line of Android gaming devices.  While most information regarding the NX is still speculative, having a hybrid device would make for a good move for Nintendo.

Nintendo is still fairly strong in the handheld device market, despite the growing popularity of mobile gaming. Its home console figures, however, are not as strong. But to have a single device with which to access Nintendo's game library would be a boon for both developers and gamers alike.

While the Tegra chip may not be as powerful and produce cutting-edge graphics as, say, a Playstation 4 or Xbox One, it should be good enough to allow users to enjoy one of Nintendo's most awaited game, Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Alfred Bayle

Viekira XR Approved for HCV Genotype 1

The approval provides an extended-release option for chronic GT1 hepatitis C infections

The approval provides an extended-release option for chronic GT1 hepatitis C infections

AbbVie announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a New Drug Application (NDA) for Viekira XR (dasabuvir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, ritonavir) extended-release tablets for the treatment of patients with chronic genotype 1 (GT1) hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, including those with compensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh A).

Viekira XR is the extended-release formulation of the active ingredients found in Viekira Pak, which was approved in December 2014. It combines three direct-acting antivirals: dasabuvir, an HCV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase inhibitor; ombitasvir, an HCV NS5A inhibitor, and paritaprevir, an HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor. Ritonavir is a strong CYP3A inhibitor that increases peak and trough plasma drug concentrations of paritaprevir and overall drug exposure.

The FDA approval was based on seven Phase 3 clinical trials for Viekira Pak (n>2,300), which include data that showed 100% sustained virologic response 12 weeks follow ing treatment (SVR12) in GT1b patients after 12 weeks of therapy without ribavirin, and 95% SVR12 in GT1a patients when given with ribavirin for 12 or 24 weeks of therapy. Data from two additional bioavailability studies comparing the formulations also supported the approval of Viekira XR.

Viekira XR will be available in 200mg/8.33mg/50mg/33.33mg strength tablets in a monthly carton containing 4 weekly cartons for a 28-day supply. Each monthly carton contains 7 daily dose packs and each daily dose pack contains 3 tablets.

Injustice 2 Will Release On Smartphones and Tablets Along With Other Plaforms

Injustice 2 Will Release On Smartphones and Tablets Along With Other Plaforms By Hunter Miche   /   8 hours ago Share Tweet Injustice 2 will release

Injustice 2 will release on smartphones and tablets in addition to consoles according to Ed Boon.

So far the studio is focusing on only making the game for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 consoles, but once those are out and released work will start on smartphones and tablets and maybe even PC. The first Injustice game also reached all of these platforms at some point during its run, and it seems this Injustice game will be no exception.

Boon, however, did not confirm if Injustice 2 will release on the Nintendo NX or not. The first game didn't release on the Wii or Wii U after all, and Nintendo already has its own fighting game in the form of Super Smash Bros, and with the Nintendo games normally being seen as a more kid-friendly console Nintendo may not think the game is right for Nintendo.

However, considering the Nintendo NX may be allowing ports to come to the console we might get Injustice 2. We'll have to wait and see, however, especially since the Nintendo NX isn't due to release until around March of next year and whenever Injustice 2 comes out.

Considering how much better NetherRealm's previous fighting game Mortal Kombat X was received (both in terms of gameplay and story), it's likely that when they release the game it will be a lot better than the previous Injustice, which got criticism for a lackluster story mode.

Injustice 2 will release sometime in 2017 and has already had a number of trailers released for it, so until then all we can do is wait and see how the game ends up looking, and if it's anything like what the trailers promise, it may be the pick-me-up that superhero video games need.

How many of you would try Injustice 2 on mobile devices? Let us know in the comments below.

Which Apple Tablet: iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 Or iPad Mini 4?

The first generation iPad mini is seen here at the official launch of the device together with the iPad Retina display in 2012

According to the Ecumenical News, the reason behind the fear of the possibility of the iPad Air's imminent end is this device was absent at the WWDC event last month. The revolutionary tablet, a pioneer in style and capacity, looks like is set to take the stage along the new iPhone 7 in September.

The iPad Air 3 is speculated for an October release. This device will also reportedly come with the latest A10 chipset, which would make it one of Apple's top products if ever it does get released and the rumors hold true.

Stay tuned for more updates and news about the upcoming iPad Air 3.

It's hard to argue against a September release of the next generation iPad mini considering that the fourth generation was launched back in Sept. 9 of a year ago.

There have been many rumors about Apple's iPad Air 3, especially the fact that the tablet could be cancelled because of the company's decision to streamline its products. The iPad Mini 4 and iPad Air 2 are both cheaper.

First, regarding design the iconic tablet is expected to have lost some weight and a couple of sizes, coming down 1.1-mm to a record thin of 5-mm.

A slimmer body could translate into poorer battery life, but Apple has a tendency of betting on aesthetics above anything else. The device's affordability combined with Apple's quality will always do well in the market. As a result, it was launched together with the smartphone flagship – iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. This could possibly mean that a new iteration will be released soon.

In addition, the tablet is expected to be made available in the same Gold, Silver and Space Grey color options along with the likely addition of a Rose Gold model.

The iPad Pro is the heaviest of the bunch, so if you want something that you are going to carry around with you on a regular basis then you might go for the iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 4.

iPhone 7 rumored to be released in September

Apple iPad Air 2 gold apple logo

Evan Blass, previously known for his leak track record, is now shedding some light into the upcoming iPhone's release date. The retired tech celebrity comes back to his Twitter account from time to time to give us a treat, and one of his latest posts says the next iPhone is to be released in September.

Of course, this is no surprise to us by now. Apple has been launching its iPhones in September since the iPhone 5. What's more interesting is that he is giving us a more specific time window: the week of September 12th.

iPhone 2016 release: week of September 12th.

    — Evan Blass (@evleaks) July 23, 2016

You may also notice Evan refrains himself from calling this upcoming device the iPhone 7. This is because some (including Blass) believe this year's iPhone will come with no number attached to it. Instead, he is calling it the 2016 iPhone, which would go more in line with the naming scheme Apple has been adopting more often as of late.

If you are a tablet aficionado, this also comes as good news to you, as it means plenty of iPads should also get iOS 10 soon after this release. Actually, it might come the very same day!

Only time will tell if this rumor is true or not. For now, let's keep it tuned to TabTimes.com for more rumors and leaks to come, as well as other content surrounding iOS.

EventBoard Joins Google for Work & Announces Tablet Support

EventBoard is a company who specializes in making meetings more productive. This is largely achieved through the company's analytics research which looks to identify trends and behaviors associated with conferencing, as well as their suite of cloud-based tools which generally look to improve the productivity of meetings. Now, in an attempt to bring their services to more conference and meeting rooms, the company has announced its commitment to Google and Android. In a press release sent out by EventBoard, the company is first confirming that they are now joining as a partner to the Google for Work program. As a result, Google for Work customers will be able to make use of EventBoard's analytical and meeting management tools.

In addition, EventBoard has also confirmed that they are in the process of expanding their mobile presence by introducing a new Android app which is specifically designed for use on Android tablets. Although the tablet market is largely considered to be one which is subsiding at the consumer level, it is commonly understood that the business sector represents a significant portion of the tablet market overall and is a market which is expected to grow further. As a result, the launching of a new Android tablet app for the business sector will offer business customers the ability to make use of much of the same features and tools, but in app form. Omitting the need to have to rely on the web version completely. Not to mention, the app is able to be deployed by an admin terminal to all employees in one sweep, without employees or individual devices needing to have the app added manually.

In terms of the app, it has yet to be released but EventBoard does not that it is due to become available soon. The app will firstly become available in a beta form and those interested in testing the app out can sign up to be notified when the app becomes available. To find out more about the expanding of EventBoard to Google of Work or to sign up for the newly introduced Android tablet app, head through the source link below.

Apple iPad 3 Rumors: Tablet's Release Date This Fall? Powerful Chipset, Camera Expected

Targus Vuscape Case Gray   ( Targus )

Although there has been no confirmed news about the possible launch date of Apple iPad 3, reports suggested that it could be released this fall.

According to the latest reports, it might be possible for the Cupertino-based tech giant to finally unveil the iPad Air 3 this coming October. Notably, October is the month when the tech giant launches its new tablets.

The previous iPad Air 2 was released in October 2014, leading many to believe that October is the month Apple would launch iPad Air 3.

As for the changes, it seems that Apple might make a thinner iPad compared to its previous version, which is 6.1mm thick. Additionally, it might include a 9.7 inch display with a 2048 x 1536 pixel density.

Moreover, the Apple iPad 3 will also contain Apple's latest A10 chipset, which would make it one of the most powerful devices manufactured by Apple.

Other than the all powerful chipset, Apple's iPad 3 will also contain a 12 MP iSight Camera with 4K video recording features and live photos. The front camera is expected to come with 5 MP FaceTime HD camera and a retina flash.

In other news, Apple's biggest competitor Samsung Galaxy S2 is 5.6 mm thick, compared to iPad mini 4's 6.1 mm. Thus, if Apple opts to make it thinner, it should add some more features to it to compete with its rival.

Although these specs have been floating in the air for quite some time, there has been no official confirmation of the same. According to some critics, the iPad Pro will have some subtle alterations made before it will launched.

Apple followers will have to wait for the upgrade news or the official declaration of the launch date, which is expected to be along with its flagship product of iPhone 7. Stay tuned to news for possible updates and details.

Top 10 Best Android Tablets Buyers Guide: July 2016 Edition

It seems to be the same old story for the summer of 2016, as there are few new tablets released, and few great options available, as the prior two years. It isn't an especially great time of year to be purchasing an Android tablet, this much is clear, and it's not exactly a good time for Android tablets in general. Having said that, this lackluster period of innovation has given us one good thing; more affordable tablets. This list has a mix of the absolute best tablets out there, as well as the more reasonably priced, yet still great value options out there.

    10. Amazon Fire 7

    Amazon Fire 7

The Amazon Fire 7 is a tablet that costs just $49.99. Even though these have been on the market for some time now, it doesn't make their $50 price tag any less impressive. Available in a range of colors, with a quad-core CPU and a 1024 x 600 7-inch display, these aren't going to win any awards for anything but their price. Which is sort of the point really, what else can you buy with $50 these days, and actually say that it's good? Great for tablets lying around the living room as well as for kids, these are easily the best value for money out there.

    Amazon Fire 7

    09. Amazon Fire HD 10

    Amazon Fire 10

While both this and the smaller Amazon Fire tablet suffer from the same lack of Google services, they still run Android, and apps can be sideloaded, and your Gmail as well as other content can still be accessed online. Instead, they have the now-very robust Amazon Appstore and other Amazon content to help fill the gap. For the most part, this works quite well, and with the $230 Amazon Fire HD 10 the eCommerce giant give you something a lot bigger to enjoy all that content on. Available in 16, 32, and 64GB variants, the Fire HD 10 is great for content consumption. It's also large enough to hook up a keyboard to and get some real work done every now and then, too.

    Amazon Fire HD 10

    09. Samsung Galaxy View

    GalaxyViewUX_SN_Main_2

At 18.4-inches, the Galaxy View is the largest tablet that not only Samsung has shipped, but one that most brands wouldn't even dream of. Designed to be a sort of portable connected TV of sorts, the Galaxy View will have its fans, but with a 108op display and mediocre specs on the inside, this is a case of a device that could be much, much better than it actually is. For playing games, watching TV or even getting work done via a remote PC connection and such, the Galaxy View offers a fairly affordable, larger-screen experience that's connected and capable of doing more than you think. It is however, fairly expensive, and the extra size might not be for everyone.

    Samsung Galaxy View

    07. Dell Venue 8 7000

    Dell-Venue-8-7840-AH-03541

Whenever an Android smartphone or tablet starts to get a little long in the tooth there are always worries that it might not be updated to the latest version of Android. Even more so when the manufacturer seems to have lost their faith in Android tablets, as is the case with Dell. Regardless, the Dell Venue 8 7000 is an excellent device, and one that has a gorgeous 8.0-inch display with a high-resolution of 2560 x 1600. With an Intel CPU on the inside to keep that gorgeous OLED display going, this is one of the better smaller Android tablets that's out there and it's not to be sniffed at, either.

    Dell Venue 8 7000

    06. Google Nexus 9

    AH Nexus 9 white 1 logo Chris-50

When the Nexus 9 was originally released it was mired by production problems and a software experience that left some wondering "is this it?" Since then however, Android itself has gotten better with the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and Android 7.0 Nougat will be launching later this year with multi-window, and unlike most tablets on this list, the Nexus 9 will be one of those first in line. With its 8.9-inch 2048 x 1536 display, stereo front-facing speakers and a thin profile the Nexus 9 has it where the hardware counts. It might have been forgotten by some, but the Nexus 9 is a quality choice for most, and while stock Android on a tablet isn't all that inspiring, it will offer the latest version of Android well before most others on this list.

    Google Nexus 9

    05. NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 Press AH-5

While the improved SHIELD Tablet K1 might not have the best display out there, it has some serious horsepower under-the-hood thanks to the Tegra K1 CPU. It's 1280 x 800 display is fine, given its 8.0-inch size, and in terms of build and looks, the SHIELD Tablet K1 looks good and doesn't make too much of a show of itself. What it does do however, is give players access to some of the best and smoothest graphics available on Android. It runs games better than practically anything else out there, and with the addition of the SHIELD controller, this makes for a nice compact games console you can take with you whenever and wherever.

    NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1

    04. Lenovo YOGA Tab 3 Pro

AH Lenovo YOGA Tab 3 Pro-18

There are few tablets that have quite as long a list of features as the YOGA Tab 3 Pro from Lenovo does. With a great 10.1-inch display, a Pico Projector, sound from JBL, and a unique form factor, Lenovo has put together something truly special here. It works well, has more than enough oomph to satisfy even the hungriest user out there, and it can be used practically anywhere thanks to the unique stand, handle and hook. It is however, a little out there in terms of software design and there's no telling whether or not this tablet is going to be one of the lucky ones to get access to Android 7.0 Nougat.

    Lenovo YOGA Tab 3 Pro

    03. Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

    Xperia Z4 Tablet AH 06

As Android tablets go, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is easily one of the most powerful and most versatile out there. At just 6.4mm thick, it still manages to pack in a Snapdragon 810, 4GB of RAM, water-resistance and even an option keyboard dock in the box, too. That keyboard dock works well with Sony's changes to Android, which give it a little more of a laptop feel, including a start menu sort of thing and a dock full of icons. It's expensive however, and while it's arguably worth it, some will simply feel that it's not worth the asking price that Sony is looking for. A great option, but one that comes with a high price users can read our review here.

    Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

    02. Google Pixel C

    Google-Pixel-C-AH-NS-21

It might not have been the unicorn that people were looking for when it launched, but over time it has become a solid Android tablet that doesn't really have any equals. That's because the Pixel C is the absolute best option for those looking to get their hands on something with a good keyboard, as well as a quality display. With a powerful NVIDIA GPU, a gorgeous 10.2-inches 2560 x 1600 display, the Pixel C ticks all of the right boxes for getting work done on the move as well as just looking great. It does however, run stock Android, which on a tablet is still hit and miss, but is set to get a lot better in Android 7.0 Nougat.

    01. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

Galaxy Tab S2 IFA AH 20

The Galaxy Tab S2 is soon to be superseded by the Galaxy Tab S3, if rumors are to be believed, and that's kind of sad, and kind of brilliant all at the same time. Sad because even well over a year, the Galaxy Tab S2 is the best all-round Android tablet available. Its Super AMOLED display gives it the best looks of any tablet display out there, and it has some great horsepower under-the-hood as well. With good software added in to make the experience better overall, there's a lot to love about this tablet, and it should soon, start to become a lot more affordable as well.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Now Receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Even though Google is about to release a brand new version of its operating system in a couple of months, there are still some devices that haven't been received the Marshmallow treatment yet. In case you are a little familiar with the mobile industry the you already know that Android Marshmallow, even if its one of the best versions of the OS so far, has been somehow problematic when it comes to reaching the handsets it was meant for. Anyway, some carriers are still pushing software updates for their customers, and recently AT&T started rolling out one for the owners of their variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. So, in case you haven't received the update notification until now, you should get it pretty soon on your tablet.

The carrier started pushing the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, which is the latest iteration of Google's operating system, at least in terms of availability because the internet giant will released Android 7.0 Nougat in the near future. This particular update was expected for a while by the owners of the device as about a month ago Verizon updated its own model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

You might already be aware that the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow software update will come along with a lot of new features that will make the usage of your handset more pleasant. Among these new features we can name Google Now on Tap, which is probably the most important out of the bunch. This particular feature can be very useful because it enables you to get information whenever you are browsing the internet or using one of your applications. To be more specific, all you have to do is long-press the home button and you will receive info about what your screen is displaying at that moment. To give you an example, let's say you currently reading some news about a certain football. When you pres the home button you will receive detailed information about that particular player from its Wikipedia page.

Another cool feature brought by the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is Doze, which is basically meant to provide a longer battery life. Doze is particularly more efficient on tablets than on smartphones, because the tablets are typically used less than phones. Moreover, tablets don't usually have connections to data and and voice networks, though the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 can connect to AT&T's LTE network. There are many who claim that Doze has basically doubled the battery life of their tablets, which is really great considering that tablets are used less often than other mobile devices. Another useful feature is a new app permissions manager that gives you more control over applications when it comes to the things they gain access to when you install them.

Anyway, if you are one of AT&T's subscribers and you own a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, you should receive a notification for the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, if you haven't already. You can also check for the update by yourself by heading to Setting's > About device > System updates > Check for updates. As always, this kind of updates are pretty large in size, so we recommend you to connect your handset to WiFi before starting the process, this is case you don't have a plan that includes unlimited data, thus you can LTE. Further, make sure your tablet is charged at least half because you don't want it to die in the process.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and Gear S3 launch expected at IFA 2016

Samsung was supposedly set to launch its Galaxy Tab S3 on September 1. But according to latest reports, the company will also be unveiling its much anticipated Gear S3 smartwatch alongside the tablet.

It is expected that the company will unveil these devices at IFA 2016 in Berlin. Samsung will also be launching the galaxy Note 7 on August 2.

According to a report, the new Samsung Gear S3 will look more like a wristwatch and will have a built in GPS. The report doesn't reveal much about the Galaxy Tab S3.

The Galaxy Tab S3 was recently tipped in TENAA certification indicating that Samsung will release two versions of the tablet, one with a 9.7-inch display, while the other could have an 8 inch screen.

Both tablets will have 2048 x 1536 display resolutions and will run Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, accompanied by 3 GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while battery capacity is set to reach 4,000mAh.

The Galaxy Tab S3 could sport an 8MP rear as well as a 2MP front facing snapper and is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 652 CPU and will have 150Mbps LTE.

Mysterious Nvidia tablet passes FCC certification

July 20th, 2016 at 4:53 pm - Author Matthew Wilson

Nvidia first launched its original Shield Tablet back in 2014 and since then, it has been supported with regular updates and features like Game Stream and GeForce Now have improved significantly. However, it is about time for a hardware update and it looks like there might be one on the way soon as a mysterious Nvidia tablet recently went through FCC certification.

A new Nvidia tablet passed the Federal Communication Commission's tests on the 15th of July. The tablet sports the model number P2523 and while we don't know anything in terms of exact hardware specifications, we do know that its form factor will be very similar with an 8-inch screen. Exact dimensions are 8.6 x 4.8 x 0.3 inches, which means it will have slightly thinner bezels than the original Shield.

Finally, we know that the new tablet will support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands. It really isn't much information to go on, but it at least confirms that Nvidia is working on a new tablet, perhaps with a launch planned for later this year once Android Nougat launches, though that is just speculation on my part.

KitGuru Says: While the original Nvidia Shield tablet is still a competent device today, it would be nice to see Nvidia release a tablet based on the Maxwell or Pascal architecture due to the increased performance per watt. Do any of you own a Shield tablet at the moment? Would you upgrade to a newer model?

Galaxy Tab S3 to be Released on September 1?

According to the rumor mill, the successor of the hugely popular Tab S2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 respectively, will become official on September 1. And truth be told, it was about time, even if Samsung released a rehashed model in 2016, featuring a newer gen chipset and an updated Android version. The fan-base requested something absolutely new spamming the forums until Samsung decided to do something about it, at least that's the romanticized version.

The rumor about the absolutely new Galaxy Tab S3 comes from a well known Russian journalist who goes by the improbable name of Eldar Murtazin and he claims that the new kid on the block is to be officially revealed during a special even that will take place on September 1. One should be aware of the fact that Eldar Murtazin hit the nail on its head quite a few times, meaning that his rumors/leaks were confirmed in the past, but not 100%, so today's claim should be treated accordingly, i.e. it's just a claim.

Besides mister Eldar, we also know that SamMobile, a website specialized in Samsung related leaks and gossip, wrote that the new gen of the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch will be launched on…guess when? September 1. The question that comes to one's mind is obviously, why not both the Gear S3 and the Galaxy Tab S3? After all, they're the same generation and if there's an event, I seriously doubt that Samsung will hold it just for one item. I know, this is called optimism, wishful thinking or whatever, but seriously speaking, we may have something here after all.

Samsung's biggest event for the second half of the current  year will be the official release of the Galaxy Note 7 which we already know it will take place on August 2 during a dedicated event. Considering that the Gear S2 was released in August of 2015 and the Galaxy Tab S2  in July the same year, a combined event on September 1 for the new generations of both devices doesn't sound so far-fetched.

Google to release two male and female Android Wear smartwatch by End-2016

Google is reportedly working on releasing two new Android Wear smartwatches by the end of 2016 at the time of Android N 7.0 launch. Even though the Mountain View-based search giant is working hard to release Android 7.0 Nougat, two new Nexus smartphones, the company is gearing up to release two smartwatches codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish.

According to rumors, the upcoming Google smartwatches will be manufactured by the company itself with integrated Google Assistant. Moreover, the smartwatches will be round in shape and will be available in two different sizes to suit the requirements of buyers.

Although the information available so far are only rumors, the analysts are of the opinion that it will be indeed true since the leaks initially emerged from AndroidPolice, which is a trusted source. In the past, their predictions turned out to be correct. However, we are unable to confirm whether these two new smartwatches are manufactured under Nexus brand either by Google or their partner like HTC or Asus.

Since the market share of Android Wear is pretty low, the upcoming two new smartwatches codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish will help push the growth of Android Wear platform to new heights. This is because other brands like Samsung, LG, Huawei, Motorola has yet to release new smartwatches. Hence, Google will integrate an intuitive Android Wear interface with budget pricing to help push the sales of new devices.

Google smartwatches AngelFish and Swordfish Specs

As per the leaked image surfaced on the web, the rumored AngelFish smartwatch will feature a 43.5mm round face, which is smaller than the 46mm Moto 360 2nd Gen. Moreover, the watch will have three side buttons with black straps and the face will bear a light gray color.

While the AngelFish watch will have a centered round crown with a separate button on the top and bottom paired with the metal design, 4G LTE connectivity and GPS, the smaller variant named Swordfish will feature 42mm round face with only one crown button without 4G LTE and GPS support. Although there are rumors that both models will have a heart rate monitor, we are unable to confirm its presence at this point in time.

We expect that Google will aggressively price Angelfish and Swordfish smartwatches. Moreover, Google is also planning to add new improved features to Android Wear and few interactive faces to enable quick access to music, Gmail, and content.

If the upcoming two smartwatches ships with Google Assistant (similar to Siri, Cortana, and Google Home), then customers will have a compelling reason to buy the devices in a highly competitive market.

While Samsung has chosen not to reveal anything about the release date, spice and price of the much talked about Galaxy Tab S3, new reports suggest the tablet could be unveiled sometime in September.

It was in September last year that the smartphone giant had rolled out two variants of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, one with a 9.7-inch screen and the other with an 8-inch display.

Recently, popular leakster Evan Blass posted a supposed leaked photo of the Galaxy Tab S3. The picture, which was obtained from an anonymous source, showed the device with the familiar home button at the bottom of the front of the screen. The device looked exactly as the Galaxy Tab S2, which still has its plastic body, reported TechRadar.

Samsung fans claimed the picture to be fake as the gadget's back button was apparently too close to the home button in the picture. In fact, Blass himself clarified in a later tweet that the picture was not of Galaxy Tab S3 but Tab A 10.1.

As far as Galaxy Tab S3 specs are concerned, the upcoming tablet is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor with 3GB of RAM, a 32GB to 64GB internal storage capacity, and a 4,000 mAh battery. The next gen tablet is expected to be released in 9.7-inch and 8-inch versions, same as its predecessor, albeit the original resolution of 1,536 x 2,048 pixels is expected to get upgraded, reported GuruLife.

There are even reports which claim that the device will run through the new Android Nougat operating system. The Android Nougat will reportedly come with the power to make instant replies to messages, through the notification window or simply through the multi-window. In fact, the Doze-to-go will also help save the battery charge when the tablet is not active.

Talking about the Galaxy Tab S3 price, the 32 GB version is expected to cost around $399, with prices going higher for other storage options, reported VineReport.

We would advise our readers to take the information with a grain of salt as nothing yet about Galaxy Tab S3 release date, specs and price have been announced by the makers.
