The MWC is around the corner and companies have started out sending press invitations for the same. Well, Samsung's invitation was rather cryptic and features the shadowy outline of what looks like a brand new tablet. That the device will form part of the Galaxy lineup can be inferred however, the invitation was very scarce on further details.
The device, which we are assuming is a tablet from its width and side curves, appears to be a new launch. However, Samsung has kept surprisingly mum on the topic and even in the days leading up to the launch, we heard scarce little about a new tablet release. That is until now.
There are rumors however, that a Galaxy Tab S3 was recently spotted at the FCC in two distinct models – WiFi only (SM-T825) and LTE (SM-T820).. There are also claims that the device — S3 or whatever it may be — will pack s 9.6-inch 2048 x 1536 display and will be powered by the premium a Snapdragon 820 processor. The 820 processor means that it should fall in the mid to high segment of Samsung devices.
Meanwhile, a tablet launch from Samsung could make sense at this point. One, Apple has recently replaced Samsung as the top manufacturer by shipping over 78 million iPhones in the holiday quarter. However, the iPad sector registered a huge decline in demand. As such, it could be in Samsung's interest to capitalize upon the market with a new, engaging tablet of its own.
However, to be a viable alternative for the iPad, whatever tablet Samsung produces will have to be cutting edge. And the Galaxy S series of tablets while robust, were not exactly what you would call state of the art. The new tablet — assuming that it is a tablet and is the S3 — could change all that. Or, Samsung could be aiming it at an entirely different audience altogether.
Either way, we will know more in the near future. Stay tuned!
