In the world of Android tablets, not much has happened throughout 2016, sadly, and as we come to the end of the year, it seems as though little else is going to happen until Spring 2017. With the Holidays around the corner, and people looking to snag a deal on something, however, it can be hard to tell what's worth spending the money on and what isn't. Especially as many of the "flagship" tablets available these days are from 2015 or perhaps earlier. As tablets don't age quite as much as smartphones do, however, the majority in this list are well worth looking into, and there have been some additions here, too.
10. Amazon Fire 7
Considering that Android tablets have become more and more expensive from the usual suspects, it's nice to see that Amazon is still sticking to what made the original Kindle Fire so appealing; value for money. This Amazon Fire 7 is not HD by any means, but it runs the same software as the more powerful Fire tablets do, and it gets the job done around the living room, as a great first tablet for someone or of course, something inexpensive for the little ones . This is all because the Fire 7 costs no more than $50, which is a really, really impressive price tag and given what you're getting here, one of the best value for money tablets on the market. Sadly, there's no Google Play Store here, and there's little in the way of extras, but for $50, there's little to complain about.

09. Samsung Galaxy A 10.1 (2016)
It might not be the best time to be a Samsung fan, with the lack of a Galaxy Note flagship on shelves, and no replacement for the Galaxy Tab S2 in sight. Of course, for those looking to spend a little less and deal with some lesser specs, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) is an excellent compromise. The 10.1-inch tablet is packed with an Exynos 7870 octa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM, or 3GB if you choose the S Pen version, which you absolutely should. Not only does the S Pen work great with the included note apps, but it's great for games as well as general use, and is well worth the extra $50 or so that it adds to the final amount. The 1920 x 1200 resolution could be better, but there's a lot on offer here for a price tag that Samsung fans will most certainly be used to.

08. CHUWI HiBook Pro 2-in-1 Ultrabook
Few devices offer as much flexibility and are as versatile as this option out of China. The CHUWI HiBook Pro is not only a Windows 10 tablet, but also an Android tablet as well as full-blown Windows 10 laptop when paired with the extra keyboard dock. Sure, the fit and finish could be a whole lot better, but with few other options as versatile as this at this sort of price range, your options are fairly slim. With an Intel Atom CPU and 4GB of RAM, along with a 10.1-inch Quad HD display, the HiBook Pro has it where it counts in the specs department and certainly won't disappoint users, that's for sure. Overall polish and build might not be the greatest, but it works well, and gets the job done for a fraction of what a lot of other tablets cost without any extras.

07. ASUS Chromebook Flip
With its 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 display, as well as an Intel CPU and of course Chrome OS with Android apps, there's a lot to like about the Chromebook Flip. Even so, there's little in the way of exciting features besides those. It's a solid performer, but those opting for a Chromebook with Android apps to get a little functionality on the go probably want something larger, and with a better screen. Both of which aren't things the ASUS Chromebook Flip have on hand. Even so, it's affordable and has more than enough on hand for those looking to get a great experience without breaking the bank.

06. Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet
The Xperia Z4 Tablet from Sony is one of the best products the company has shipped in a long time, and unfortunately for some, it's priced as such, too. While it's prohibitively-expensive, the Xperia Z4 Tablet is hard to get hold of and does command a higher price than most. Still, for a super-thin Android tablet that has a gorgeous 2560 x 1440 display and an excellent keyboard dock, as well as thoughtful adjustments to Android, there's a hell of a lot to like here. It would be nice to see a drop in price, but considering everything Sony has packed in as well as the overall experience, it'd be wrong to say this was overpriced, as it's got so much to offer.

05. NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1
The above is a perfect example of what the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 is all about. It's a gaming powerhouse dressed as a mediocre Android tablet. We say mediocre because the 1280 x 800 8.0-inch display and pedestrian build could be much, much nicer. However, the SHIELD Tablet K1 is all about what it can do, not about how it looks. With a Tegra K1 under-the-hood, the SHIELD Tablet K1 is a powerful machine that has a lot to offer gamers, and thanks to that power it's also great at browsing the web and watching movies, too. What it lacks in terms of looks it makes up for in sheer performance and versatility, making it a little powerhouse that's hard not to appreciate – even more so given the excellent price tag.

04. Acer Chromebook R13
If you're looking for a larger device that runs Chrome OS as well as Android apps, giving you even more power on the move, then the Chromebook R13 is probably that product. With a 1080p 13-inch display, an Intel CPU and an excellent build, the Chromebook R13 is well worth looking into, and it has a great touchscreen and the ability to flip over, too. At $400 it might be a little pricey, but there's not much in the way of competition at this sort of design and price. It has all of the right boxes ticked, and while the $400 price point might be a little high for some people, it'll be well worth it for those that are looking for an excellent device with a lot of flexibility, and it's a good-looking machine with an excellent keyboard to boot.

03. Google Pixel C
When the Pixel C was first launched it had some problems, and it wasn't the best out there and had a number of bugs, some of which should never have shipped given its price tag. Of course, that was a year ago now, and since then it has been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, gained multi-window mode, much more stability and all kinds of bug fixes. Now, the Pixel C is a safe bet for those looking for a well-made, good-looking tablet that has all the right sort of specs, and doesn't skimp when it comes to fit and finish. The display is closer to a sheet of A-sized paper than most other Android tablets, and there's a lot of reasons why this is a good thing, not least because it makes editing documents on it much easier and it looks great on the daily, too.

02. Lenovo Yoga Book
The Yoga Book from Lenovo represents the best tablet release for a long, long time and from any company out there. It looks good, has an excellent Full HD display, a powerful Intel Atom CPU and a keyboard, as well as a graphics tablet – it does everything. The keyboard is the Halo keyboard, and is a sort of touchscreen affair with haptic feedback, and this part of the tablet doubles as a graphics tablet for sketching as well as recording digital notes of whatever it is you write through a piece of paper on top of it. We wrote a full review on the Yoga Book, and it's something that a lot of readers should look through to get a feel for this device, as it offers so much that it would be difficult to list it all here. On the surface, the Yoga Book is weird and wonderful, but once you use it, the whole experience comes together.

For those that are looking for a middle of the road, but excellent Android tablet, this is the one to get. Available in either 8.4-inch or 9.7-inch options, there's a lot to love about the Galaxy Tab S2, and it's easily one of the best all-rounders out there. With an excellent Super AMOLED display, as well as great performance under-the-hood, the Galaxy Tab S2 is perfect for everyone and anyone as it does everything pretty well. One of the best options available, the Galaxy Tab S2 won't disappoint, regardless of whether or not it's due for an upgrade.
