iPad Mini 5 Release Date, News & Update: Device Release Breaking Apple’s Launch Trend?

The iPad Mini 5 will be launched in September alongside the iPhone 7 on Sept. 16 during Apple's press event. Reportedly, the device will be given a new name, the iPad Mini Pro.

iPad Mini 5 launch was in correlation with the fact that the iPad Mini 4 was released on Sept. 9 2015 at the Apple event which released the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, Macworld reported.

The iPad Mini 4 is now available on the Apple Refurbished Store, which sales also recently spiked speculations that the much-awaited iPad Mini is going to be released very soon. The iPad Mini 5 was also rumored to be released in October 2016 since Apple usually releases its next-generation iPad Minis like they did in October 2012, 2013, and 2014.

The iPad Mini 5 is rumored to come out as thin as 5mm encased in a 7000-series aluminum chassis that may be dust-resistant and water-resistant. The device is going to have a smaller battery as well to go with its thinner design, Cult of Mac reported.

The image quality of the tablet's cameras is expected to remain at 8MP on the back and 1.2MP at the front. The iPad Mini 5 was also rumored to have a 3D touch display feature. However, chances are low that the upcoming device will have this feature since the 3D touch tech is still in the development stage.

iPad Mini 5 may also be the last in the iPad series with Apple expected to focus more on the MacBook line. There has been no official statement to date from Apple about the possible release date and specifications of the iPad Mini 5.

There is a growing anticipation for the Apple's iPad Series with the impending release of the iPad Mini 5. Watch video on What is this really the IPad Mini 5? Source: gamenguide

Microsoft Surface Studio Release For Windows 10 Mobile, PC, Tablet

The latest reports from Microsoft's CEO says its development team is now carrying out a research on innovative technology, so that the company could ensure that its next entry into the smartphone market would be felt by its competitors and the consumers in general. That device is believed to be the Surface Phone, which has been rumored for a long time.

The only hints we received were from Microsoft's Satya Nadella which teased the device in an interview with the Australian Financial. It would be interesting to see if they unify Mobile, PC, and tablet under advanced windows platform with multiple smart devices.

Though he did not mention the Surface Phone or any specific gadget they are coming up with, the Microsoft CEO stated that he is confident of the company's goal to bring in an innovative cloud computing would be successful.

The 2017 Microsoft Surface Phone is considered as Microsoft's comeback in the smartphone market. The new Microsoft does not want to look at the overwhelming dominance of Android worldwide with jealousy, but creating from scratch?

According to an article posted on MacRumors, rumors include the Surface Phone's compatibility with a Surface Book or a Surface Studio. One standout capability could be x86 app emulation on Windows 10 devices, allowing traditional Windows desktop programs to be run on smartphone processors. The addition of a phone completes the company's product line.

In the highly competitive electronic gadget market, imitation may indeed be the highest form of flattery as numerous brands do usually copy other more successful manufacturers in the hopes of becoming a cheaper or more powerful alternative to the said brand.

While Nadella has talked about the Surface Phone recently, teasing that the device is both unique and a game-changer in the making, he stopped short of revealing the juicy details such as basic specifications and possible release timing.

So apparently Microsoft isn't denaturing the mobile business. Currently Microsoft is offering all pre-order purchases of the Surface Studio with a free Surface Dial – a $99 dollar value accessory that made many waves during Microsoft's popular Surface Studio commercial. Source: aboutcruiseships

Rumor: Meizu Working on a 7.9-Inch Tablet, Launching Soon

unbox-293-meizu-tablet-feat

Infamous Chinese leakster KJuma is at it again, this time with a leak of Meizu's supposedly first tablet device. According to him, Meizu is hard at work developing a 7.9-inch tablet – a first from the Chinese company – and will be unveiling it to the public soon. How soon? Unfortunately, KJuma didn't specify a release window for Meizu's new device.

Not much is known on this Meizu tablet aside from its 7.9-inch form factor and its OS, which is Meizu's homegrown FlymeOS. On the front, a physical home button can be seen, along with a supposed fingerprint sensor underneath the button. The tablet's back shows a camera port, accompanied with a LED flash.

Stay tuned to Unbox for more rumor and leak coverage on Meizu's upcoming 7.9-inch tablet.

Switzerland votes on nuclear power phase out process

Swiss voters are casting their ballots to decide whether or not to speed up the process of phasing out the country's nuclear power plants.

If voters choose "yes" in Sunday's referendum, it would force three of the country's five reactors to close next year, and the remaining two by 2029.

The five plants currently generate 40% of Switzerland's electricity.

Polls suggest a tight race on the issue, which is being championed by environmentalists.

The Swiss Greens and Social Democrats have been pressing for a vote since the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011, arguing that Swiss plants are ageing and unsafe.

Following the incident, Swiss authorities announced plans for a gradual phase out of nuclear energy but did not specify dates.

However, government and industry figures argue a quick exit from nuclear power could raise reliance on fossil fuels instead of renewable energy and possibly lead to power shortages.

Recent opinion polls show the "yes" and "no" camps to be neck-and-neck.

Will Swiss say 'no thanks' to nuclear power? By Imogen Foulkes in Geneva

Although Switzerland's government already has a plan to decommission the country's five nuclear plants "at the end of their natural lives", opponents of nuclear power claim the strategy is too vague, and may allow the plants to keep operating indefinitely.

The proposal before voters, brought by the Green party, calls for nuclear plants to be closed after a maximum 45 years in operation, and for a ban on construction of any new plants.

This would mean that three of the five plants would have to shut next year, the fourth in 2024 and the last in 2029.

Switzerland is a densely populated country, none of its five plants is more than 70km (43 miles) from urban centres and the government issues iodine tablets to communities within a certain radius, to be taken in case of a release of radioactive material.

Due to public concern, no new nuclear power stations have been built in Switzerland since 1984.

The FDA's Historic Caution On Abuse Deterrent Labeling

Before the market open on Friday, IntelliPharmaCeutics Intl Inc (USA) (NASDAQ: IPCI)reported its NDA submission for its abuse-deterrent Rexista (oxycodone hydrochloride) extended release tablets designed in 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg and 80 mg strengths.

"The NDA submission of Rexista® represents a critical milestone and turning point for the Company," said IntelliPharmaCeutics CEO Dr. Isa Odidi. "This is our first NDA submission and the first abuse-deterrent oxycodone product candidate we are aware of that not only resists common forms of abuse but provides a preventive tool that may flag early warning of abuse."

After the announcement, shares of IntelliPharmaCeutics are up around 9 percent in early trading.

FDA Pattern Of PDUFA Date Delays

Abuse deterrent labeling is still relatively new for the FDA. Their final guidance on the matter was issued in April 2015.

"Since then, there has been a continual refinement and evolution of label language as abuse-deterrent products get approved," said Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Chiara Russo in an October research note addressing the FDA's delayed PDUFA goal date for Egalet Corp (NASDAQ: EGLT)'s Arymo.

Supporting Evidence

The analyst cited historic cases of Zohydro (2013), Hysingla (2014) and Xtampza (2015), all of which saw delayed PDUFA dates with eventual approval, to support her thesis.

"If you look at historically at this point, the FDA has hit a pattern with these opiods coming to market, and it's not a bad thing," said Russo in a PreMarket Prep appearance on October 14. "It just seems like the process of getting an opiod through the FDA just requires a lot more boxes to be checked."

The analyst expects FDA approval for Egalet's Arymo by the end of 2016.

The e-commerce giant today launched its Black Friday Deals Store and over a dozen curated gift guides.

More than three weeks ahead of the annual busiest shopping day of the year, Amazon is inviting customers to find "tens of thousands" of festive bargains. Simply ask your Echo, Echo Dot, Tap, Fire TV, or Fire tablet to buy the gadget of your choice.

To encourage voice ordering, Amazon has incentives like a $5 gift card for those who order an Alexa-exclusive deal or 25 percent off a Tide laundry bundle when you order with Alexa.

They include luxury beauty, sports, musical instruments, handmade, grocery, fashion, home, toys, and electronics, among others. Click through to narrow your shopping parameters, or just scroll through pages of ideas.

The guides are accessible on mobile, too, with new functions like Package X-Ray, which allows iPhone owners to see what's in a box without opening it. Beginning Nov. 15, scan the barcode with your phone and the contents will appear on the screen. Customers can also use the camera icon to search and add items to a Wish List.

Microsoft Band 3 Release No Chance Of Happening? Series Is Signalling Towards Death As Microsoft Pulls Out Band Listing From Stores

#MicrosoftBand3 #Wearable – Microsoft Band 3 Release No Chance Of Happening? Series Is Signalling Towards Death As Microsoft Pulls Out Band Listing From Stores : Microsoft is known as early adopters of latest change in technology industry. It is evident from its portfolio expansion from software to hardware, which includes desktop, tablet, smartphone, and wearables.

The company launched the Microsoft Band in Oct, 2014 observing the change in the application and usage of smart devices among users. Then came the Band 2 with a updated design and featuring many more attractive features, which is supposed to be followed by the Microsoft Band 3. However, after two years, we are yet to see a 3rd gen Microsoft Band.

ZDNet reports that the company has no current plans to release a Band 3. The team responsible for the Band was recently dissolved, throwing doubt on Microsoft's future plans for the product.

According to The Verge, the Band's software development kit which allowed apps to be created for the device has also been removed. Also in September, the company renamed its smartphone health app to Microsoft Band; that software remains available for existing users.

"We have sold through our existing Band 2 inventory and have no plans to release another Band device this year," a Microsoft statement obtained by Mary Jo Foley reads.

The Band 2 has been removed completely from Microsoft's online store, signaling that production has ceased, with Amazon is selling its remaining inventory.

However, it is still rumored that Microsoft might roll out the Band v3 in early 2017. Microsoft also rums a User Voicepage where customers may pitch in their opinions and expectations or suggestions to the company on ideas for the improvement of the Microsoft's Health App and Band.

The smart wearables market now has a lot of players like Fitbit, Samsung, Garmin, Misfit, and Apple. Does the Microsoft Band 3 still have room to compete? Source: Mobilenapps

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 news: When is the 2-in-2 tablet coming?

#SurfacePro5 #Tablet – Microsoft Surface Pro 5 news: When is the 2-in-2 tablet coming? : Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been one of the most-anticipated devices this year, but it looks like Microsoft will not launch the new-generation tablet in 2016. Instead, new reports suggest it will be launched in early 2017.

CNet dug into the history of Microsoft Surface Pro releases and it shows that the most recent generation was announced in October 2015 and was released the same month. October is usually the month where previous Surface devices have been launched, although the first Surface Pro was launched in February and the Surface Pro in June.

Perhaps, it is the reason why new speculations would point to early next year as the possible date when Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released.

Microsoft Surface brand devices were met with skepticism prior to their first launch in 2012. Fast forward to today, the brand has become one of the most-anticipated innovative brands that the market has known. The latest addition is a desktop PC called the Surface Studio, which continues to make waves. A Microsoft Surface Phone is also being rumored to make an entry soon.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 already boasts of the sixth-generation Skylake Intel processor, which is being used in recently introduced devices. Intel is scheduled to launch the newest Kaby Lake processor before the year ends, which is expected to be used in the Microsoft Surface Pro 5. The schedule has also fueled speculations of the early 2017 release.

Improvements to the current model are said to come, and the battery issue is expected to be addressed in the upcoming gadget. Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is said to have the Windows 10 Redstone 2 operating system, 256 GB internal storage, 16 GB RAM, and USB Type-C port.

It is further believe to come in two sizes, the 12.3-inch and the 13.3-inch display. Microsoft continues to be mum on the matter, thus it would be best to wait for confirmation or official announcement. Source: ecumenicalnews

Top 10 Best Android Tablets and 2-in-1s – November 2016

In the world of Android tablets, not much has happened throughout 2016, sadly, and as we come to the end of the year, it seems as though little else is going to happen until Spring 2017. With the Holidays around the corner, and people looking to snag a deal on something, however, it can be hard to tell what's worth spending the money on and what isn't. Especially as many of the "flagship" tablets available these days are from 2015 or perhaps earlier. As tablets don't age quite as much as smartphones do, however, the majority in this list are well worth looking into, and there have been some additions here, too.

    10. Amazon Fire 7

    Amazon Fire 7

Considering that Android tablets have become more and more expensive from the usual suspects, it's nice to see that Amazon is still sticking to what made the original Kindle Fire so appealing; value for money. This Amazon Fire 7 is not HD by any means, but it runs the same software as the more powerful Fire tablets do, and it gets the job done around the living room, as a great first tablet for someone or of course, something inexpensive for the little ones . This is all because the Fire 7 costs no more than $50, which is a really, really impressive price tag and given what you're getting here, one of the best value for money tablets on the market. Sadly, there's no Google Play Store here, and there's little in the way of extras, but for $50, there's little to complain about.

    09. Samsung Galaxy A 10.1 (2016)

    galaxy-tab-a-with-s-pen-2016-award

It might not be the best time to be a Samsung fan, with the lack of a Galaxy Note flagship on shelves, and no replacement for the Galaxy Tab S2 in sight. Of course, for those looking to spend a little less and deal with some lesser specs, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) is an excellent compromise. The 10.1-inch tablet is packed with an Exynos 7870 octa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM, or 3GB if you choose the S Pen version, which you absolutely should. Not only does the S Pen work great with the included note apps, but it's great for games as well as general use, and is well worth the extra $50 or so that it adds to the final amount. The 1920 x 1200 resolution could be better, but there's a lot on offer here for a price tag that Samsung fans will most certainly be used to.

    08. CHUWI HiBook Pro 2-in-1 Ultrabook

    chuwi-hibook-pro-ah-7

Few devices offer as much flexibility and are as versatile as this option out of China. The CHUWI HiBook Pro is not only a Windows 10 tablet, but also an Android tablet as well as full-blown Windows 10 laptop when paired with the extra keyboard dock. Sure, the fit and finish could be a whole lot better, but with few other options as versatile as this at this sort of price range, your options are fairly slim. With an Intel Atom CPU and 4GB of RAM, along with a 10.1-inch Quad HD display, the HiBook Pro has it where it counts in the specs department and certainly won't disappoint users, that's for sure. Overall polish and build might not be the greatest, but it works well, and gets the job done for a fraction of what a lot of other tablets cost without any extras.

    asus-chromebook-flip

With its 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 display, as well as an Intel CPU and of course Chrome OS with Android apps, there's a lot to like about the Chromebook Flip. Even so, there's little in the way of exciting features besides those. It's a solid performer, but those opting for a Chromebook with Android apps to get a little functionality on the go probably want something larger, and with a better screen. Both of which aren't things the ASUS Chromebook Flip have on hand. Even so, it's affordable and has more than enough on hand for those looking to get a great experience without breaking the bank.

    06. Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

    Xperia Z4 Tablet AH 21

The Xperia Z4 Tablet from Sony is one of the best products the company has shipped in a long time, and unfortunately for some, it's priced as such, too. While it's prohibitively-expensive, the Xperia Z4 Tablet is hard to get hold of and does command a higher price than most. Still, for a super-thin Android tablet that has a gorgeous 2560 x 1440 display and an excellent keyboard dock, as well as thoughtful adjustments to Android, there's a hell of a lot to like here. It would be nice to see a drop in price, but considering everything Sony has packed in as well as the overall experience, it'd be wrong to say this was overpriced, as it's got so much to offer.

    05. NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1

    NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 AH-138

The above is a perfect example of what the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 is all about. It's a gaming powerhouse dressed as a mediocre Android tablet. We say mediocre because the 1280 x 800 8.0-inch display and pedestrian build could be much, much nicer. However, the SHIELD Tablet K1 is all about what it can do, not about how it looks. With a Tegra K1 under-the-hood, the SHIELD Tablet K1 is a powerful machine that has a lot to offer gamers, and thanks to that power it's also great at browsing the web and watching movies, too. What it lacks in terms of looks it makes up for in sheer performance and versatility, making it a little powerhouse that's hard not to appreciate – even more so given the excellent price tag.

    04. Acer Chromebook R13

    acer-chromebook-r13-jd-td-ah

If you're looking for a larger device that runs Chrome OS as well as Android apps, giving you even more power on the move, then the Chromebook R13 is probably that product. With a 1080p 13-inch display, an Intel CPU and an excellent build, the Chromebook R13 is well worth looking into, and it has a great touchscreen and the ability to flip over, too. At $400 it might be a little pricey, but there's not much in the way of competition at this sort of design and price. It has all of the right boxes ticked, and while the $400 price point might be a little high for some people, it'll be well worth it for those that are looking for an excellent device with a lot of flexibility, and it's a good-looking machine with an excellent keyboard to boot.

    03. Google Pixel C

    Google-Pixel-C-AH-NS-music

When the Pixel C was first launched it had some problems, and it wasn't the best out there and had a number of bugs, some of which should never have shipped given its price tag. Of course, that was a year ago now, and since then it has been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, gained multi-window mode, much more stability and all kinds of bug fixes. Now, the Pixel C is a safe bet for those looking for a well-made, good-looking tablet that has all the right sort of specs, and doesn't skimp when it comes to fit and finish. The display is closer to a sheet of A-sized paper than most other Android tablets, and there's a lot of reasons why this is a good thing, not least because it makes editing documents on it much easier and it looks great on the daily, too.

    02. Lenovo Yoga Book

    ah-lenovo-yoga-book-14

The Yoga Book from Lenovo represents the best tablet release for a long, long time and from any company out there. It looks good, has an excellent Full HD display, a powerful Intel Atom CPU and a keyboard, as well as a graphics tablet – it does everything. The keyboard is the Halo keyboard, and is a sort of touchscreen affair with haptic feedback, and this part of the tablet doubles as a graphics tablet for sketching as well as recording digital notes of whatever it is you write through a piece of paper on top of it. We wrote a full review on the Yoga Book, and it's something that a lot of readers should look through to get a feel for this device, as it offers so much that it would be difficult to list it all here. On the surface, the Yoga Book is weird and wonderful, but once you use it, the whole experience comes together.

Available in either 8.4-inch or 9.7-inch options, there's a lot to love about the Galaxy Tab S2, and it's easily one of the best all-rounders out there. With an excellent Super AMOLED display, as well as great performance under-the-hood, the Galaxy Tab S2 is perfect for everyone and anyone as it does everything pretty well. One of the best options available, the Galaxy Tab S2 won't disappoint, regardless of whether or not it's due for an upgrade.

Google Nexus 7 2016 release date, news & update: Tablet may not see the light of day due to fallout with HTC

Google and Huawei had a fallout on the Pixel front as the latter turned down the search giant due to Google insisting that its brand would be the only one adorning the Pixels. The Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet has also not been announced and that is worrying fans.

A report surfaced online last month claiming Google was in talks with Huawei for manufacturing the Pixel smartphones but then chose HTC as the contract manufacturer. It was speculated back then that the Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet will make its way before Christmas.

According to GSMArena, Huawei executives turned down Google when they heard that the Huawei logo won't feature on the Pixel phones. This could have halted the production of the Nexus 7 2016 tablet.

The report that surfaced online was thought to be based out of rumours but Huawei's Vice President of the Consumer Business Group, Colin Giles, confirmed the news recently. This has made fans disappointed as the future of the Nexus 7 2016 is now uncertain.

Huawei would not have benefitted in any manner if it simply became the contract manufacturer for the Google Pixel phones. This is because it's striving to make a name for itself among the well-known names in the smartphone market. As per the report, it is likely that the Huawei logo would have been absent from the Google Nexus 7 2016 device too.

This could be a reason why Google has not revealed anything on its highly-anticipated Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet. It does not seem like a possibility that the device will make its way into the market in 2016. There has been not a single leaked image of the device and this has fuelled rumours of Google choosing to discontinue production of the tablet.

Earlier it was speculated that the Google Nexus 7 2016 would be running on the Andromeda OS and be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset and Adreno 530 GPU. It was believed to have 64GB of internal storage and a 4GB RAM. USB Type-C connectivity was also anticipated along with a powerful 5,100 mAh battery, reported Auto World News.

Apple iPhone 8 May Come With New Tech

Apple iPhone 8 May Come With New Tech

Next year, Apple is expected to release three iPhone models, according to Nikkei Opens a New Window. . Two of them will reportedly include 4.7-inch and 5.0-inch liquid crystal displays, while a third so-called "premium" option will use a curved OLED display.

Interestingly, in The New York Times' review of this year's iPhone 7, the site said the next-generation iPhone will "have a full-screen face with the virtual button built directly into the screen," citing sources within Apple.

I believe that to enable this form factor in the models incorporating liquid crystal displays, Apple may use a new technology that longtime iPhone display supplier Japan Display called a "full active" liquid crystal display, or LCD.According to Japan Display, a full-active LCD uses a "new high-density wiring layout and new processing and module assembly technologies" to "reduce the bottom bezel [of a smartphone] to be as narrow as the other three sides."

"This newly designed LCD module structure will allow the size of a smartphone device to be nearly the same as the display size," a press release from Japan Display reads.

READ  Rumor: Microsoft to announce new Windows 10 Mobile phones at MWC

Japan Display also said it "aims to start mass production of this display by the end of March, 2017." This suggests that the technology should be ready in time to support next-generation iPhone launches.

Sounds like a perfect fit for the new iPhone modelsThe technology described here looks as though it should be able to enable Apple to build the "full-screen face" smartphone that The New York Times described.

Additionally, Japan Display laid out a road map during its most recent earnings call showing how it expects this full active LCD technology to evolve. In 2018, the company expects this technology to deliver "low power" consumption. Then, in 2019, the company expects this technology to be "flexible," which should allow for curved displays such as what OLED displays allow for today.

This table from Japan Display shows a table pitching the advantages of Japan Display's yet-to-be-released third-generation full active LCDs against OLED technology:

READ  Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge To Be Launch In India on Tuesday

Note, though, that Japan Display's moneymaker is LCDs. It's still working to develop OLED tech for mobile devices.

In any event, Japan Display claims advantages in power efficiency, brightness viewing angles, lifetime, cost, and "designability." It'll be interesting to see how these seemingly bold claims hold up when production displays make their way into customers' hands.

The iPhone may continue to use LCDs for quite some timeAlthough next year's premium iPhone model is expected to get a curved OLED display, I wonder if Apple's game plan is to continue to use LCDs in lower-end iPhone models over the next several years, rather than switch everything to OLED for cost reasons.

Should Japan Display, and other LCD makers, continue to advance LCDs to make them competitive with OLEDs in the areas that matter, then the technology may have a fairly long-term future in smartphones and tablets.

Nevertheless, it's also important to understand that OLED technology won't stand still, either. OLED technology has made significant strides over the past several years, and it's very likely that it will increasingly be the display technology of choice for very high-end smartphones and other mobile devices.

READ  Rumour; iPad Mini 5 Release Date, Specs, Price, To Come In Three Variants.

Unsurprisingly, Japan Display says it will continue to pour money into the research and development of OLED technology, even as it builds better LCDs over time.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 Slightly Delayed, New Task Manager Gets Fuzzy Background

After informing us earlier this month about the new task manager that will be implemented in the upcoming Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 update for Ubuntu Phone and Tablet devices, reader Tomas Vicik is back with more interesting tips.

It appears that Tomas Vicik is using the rc-proposed channel on this Ubuntu Phone to get an early taste of the new features coming to the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system developed by Canonical for various smartphone and tablet models.

He wrote in his last email that the appearance of the default Scopes was refreshed and it looks great, and that the new task manager now features a fuzzy background, which should enchant fans of the Ubuntu Touch OS.

"Hello, dear Softpedia, I have more screenshots from the new rc-proposed release of Ubuntu Touch OTA-14," said Tomas Vicik in an email. "I reckon that the newly refreshed appearance of Scopes looks great, and now the task manager background is fuzzy."

Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 to land later in November with Opus audio codec support

Among other improvements that landed in the rc-proposed channel of Ubuntu Touch, we can mention new versions of the qtmultimedia and gst-plugins-bad0.10 packages, which enable support for the Opus audio codec.

Canonical's Lukasz Zemczak reports in his latest landing email that Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 preparations are still ongoing, but users should expect a slight delay. The software update is focused on bug fixes and performance improvements only.

Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 was supposed to be out tomorrow, November 14, 2016, but it looks like that's not the case anymore. We'll update our readers when a new release date is announced, as well as if we receive any other exciting news tips about the OTA-14 update.

Thanks Tomas Vicik for the news tip!

Apple to release a new 10.9-inch iPad with an edgeless display next year, report claims

iPad sales have been trending downward for quite some time but Apple has no intention of giving up on its iconic tablet just yet. Per a new Barclays Research report obtained by MacRumors, Apple is currently planning to launch three new iPad models this coming March, one of which might very well revitalize Apple's beleaguered tablet lineup.

Per sources in Apple's supply chain, the new report claims that two of Apple's new iPads will be refreshed versions of the current 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. As for the third, Apple is reportedly planning to release an iPad model that may provide us with a sneak peak at what Apple has in store for us with the iPhone 8. Specifically, Apple this March plans to roll out a 10.9-inch iPad with an edge to edge display, a similar design to what the company may showcase on its next-gen iPhone.

[Barclays] said the 10.9-inch model's borderless design will allow for it to be the same physical size as the current-generation 9.7-inch iPad Pro. That means the display itself will need to have an edge-to-edge design, possibly signaling the removal of the Home button.

If this rumored iPad model pans out, it could be just the thing Apple needs to inject a bit of life into an iPad lineup that has seen better days. During Apple's most recent earnings report covering the company's September quarter, iPad sales hit a new five year low. And though Tim Cook still likes to claim that the iPad is the future of computing, it's hard to look at the cold hard data and agree.

That notwithstanding, a rumored design refresh could help boost sales and provide existing iPad owners with more of an incentive to upgrade than ever before. Incidentally, Apple's iPad Mini 4 will likely not receive a refresh anytime soon.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date: 3 Reasons Why You Need to Wait! Better Than Pro 4?

#SurfacePro5 #SurfacePro4 – Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date: 3 Reasons Why You Need to Wait! Better Than Pro 4? : Black Friday 2016 is just around the corner and there could be great discounts on different tech and gadgets. Microsoft products, such as Surface Pro 4, are expected to be sold at low prices, but will you go for the hybrid tablet or should you wait out until the company announces a new iteration, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5?

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been a subject of rumors for quite some time now and tech aficionados continue to wait for an official release date of the product. The Redmond-based tech giant continues to be silent about the device but rumor has it that the next hybrid tablet should be out sometime in 2017.

While some might be excited to get their hands on a Surface Pro device on Black Friday 2016, others might consider waiting for the release of the latest iteration. Here are three reasons why it would be a better idea for you to consider the latter.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Expected to Have Longer-Lasting Battery

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is known for its poor battery life. The device falls short in that field despite the release of patches and only a new iteration could address that flaw. Currently, Microsoft Surface Pro 4 can last for a good three to four hours, which would make tablets appear as a better option.

There are rumors, though, that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has a stronger battery that could last for more than hours. Even if it's just a rumor, Microsoft is expected to fix the problem with the lineup's battery.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Will Have More Impressive Specs & Features

Since Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is a successor, it is expected to pack on improvements from the previous model. Also, given that there are already a lot of devices that can serve as an alternative for Surface Pro 4, it's exciting to see what Microsoft has in store for its customers when it comes to Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

The company is expected to up its game to remain strong in the competition and the only way to do that is to make sure that the next iteration has the best specs and cool features.

Discounts for Surface Pro 4 Will Still Exist in 2017

It remains to be seen if Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released in 2017, but regardless, customers can always expect to find great discounts on Surface Pro 4 – not only on Black Friday 2016 or during the holidays, iDigitalTimes wrote. With the shopping season fast approaching, will you consider getting the current Surface Pro device or will you be patient enough to invest time and money on Microsoft Surface Pro 5? Will you Buy the New Nook Tablet 7?

    screen_20shot_202016-10-28_20at_203-31-22_20pm-0

Barnes and Noble has been peddling Samsung tablets since 2013 and many people wish the bookseller would design their own hardware again. It looks like they have heard your pleas and a new Nook 7 inch tablet passed FCC certification a few weeks ago.  Sources have disclosed to Good e-Reader that the new Nook device will be hitting store shelves within the next few weeks. The big question is, will you buy it, or has Nook become a toxic brand?

I am not surprised that Barnes and Noble has decided to make their own hardware again. The Samsung gambit has not really paid off for them. This is primarily due to the fact that whenever B&N wants to carry a new Samsung branded tablet in their bookstores they have to order one million units. If they do not sell all of them, they still have to pay the full amount and write off the loss.   The new Nook Tablet 7 will likely be more cost effective because the bookseller has more control over the MOQ, so they aren't going to manufacture more than they really need.

The Nook Tablet 7 is very barebones and the full specs are currently unknown. The only information is found on the FCC documentation.  Here is what we know the hardware will have

  • MediaTek MT8163 quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor with Mali-T720 MP2 graphics
  • 3000, 11.1 Wh mAh battery
  • 802.11a/b/g/n dual-band WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Front and rear cameras
  • Mono speaker and 3.5mm headset jack
  • Micro USB port
  • microSD card slot
  • Barnes and Noble has made many mistakes over the years that has alienated their users. They disabled the ability to backup Nook e-books and also limited the amount of internal memory that was allocated to your own personal library and PDF files. This has drove many users to embrace other brands such as Amazon, Apple and Kobo.

Can a new Nook tablet encourage former users to come back to the Nook brand?  Barnes and Noble does have a strong retail chain that allows you to try using the hardware before you shell out some money. There are trained staff that know the Nook devices and can assist you in common troubleshooting techniques and if the hardware is straight up broken, they can normally just swap it out for a new unit.  This gives the bookseller a great competitive advantage against Kobo, which doesn't have a retail presence in the United States and Amazon, which only has a handful of bookstores on the west coast.

Amazon has proven that a cheap $50 tablet is a compelling value proposition. They have experienced a 319% increase in sales in the 3rd quarter of 2016. If Barnes and Noble can release hardware that is similar and can offer it for the same price, or cheaper than the Fire Tablet, would you buy one?

Device to be rebranded under Pixel line-up

GM 5 is an entry-level smartphone sporting a 5-inch IPS HD screen with 294 ppi (pixel density) and protected by Gorilla Glass 4.

Check out the full comparison in this video below and tell us which device you're willing to buy. An Adreno 530 GPU chipset is also being speculated.

Google has launched two variants of mobile phones this year and a rebranding occurred. Andromeda is a hybrid OS developed by Google that covers features from Android OS and Chrome.

Many folks find it annoying that Google keep the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P's sales figures under tight wraps.

Google's Huawei-built 7-inch tablet, with 4GB RAM, on track for release before the end of the year.

Dakota Access pipeline protesters joined by clergy for ceremonyNorth Dakota's chief archaeologist, Paul Picha, later inspected the area and said no sign of artifacts or human remains had been found.

The Android world is now abuzz with news of Google's latest flagship phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, which have replaced the Nexus line of devices altogether, owing to their highly-refined and more user-friendly interface. iPhone owners need not fret about not owning a Pixel phone, as it is possible to enjoy the rich Pixel-like experience by installing just a couple of tweaks on any jailbroken phone.

Plus, many people are curious to know how the Nexus 6P stands against other devices from other brands, such as Samsung, Sony, HTC, and Apple, since it's so popular even without a carrier support. The previous two models of Google Nexus 7 were manufactured by Asus.

News has also stated that Huwaei is the manufacturer of the Google Nexus 7 tablet, which will be the first time Google has partnered with the company.

The Nexus 6 tablet from Google was a success among premium smartphone buyers and the new Nexus 7 tablet is pegged to have quite the same effect in the market.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 release date, news & update: Device could be unveiled along with Galaxy S8 at MWC 2017

If latest reports are to be believed, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 could be released in Q1 of 2017. The much-anticipated device failed to make an appearance in September, proving all rumours false but now enthusiasts believe that the device will be released in 2017.

Whether there is any truth to these rumours is hard to know as Samsung has not released any official statement on the same. Not much is confirmed regarding the specs and features of the device. As Tech Radar reported back in October, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will be very similar to its predecessor.

As per a Sam Mobile report, the two model numbers of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, SM-T820 and SM-T825, indicated a LTE and Wi-Fi only model. The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone is also expected to debut during the MWC 2017 in late February. It will be interesting to see whether Samsung releases such premium devices consecutively.

Fans will be in for a treat as the 2017 calendar for Samsung already looks packed. Samsung may unveil its next generation devices at the MWC 2017 and then release them in March. As regards the specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3, not much has been revealed.

The Galaxy TabPro S was released in spring and it was Samsung's first attempt at a 2-in-1 tablet/laptop combo running on Windows 10. The Galaxy Tab S3 is expected to feature a Home button below the screen. Although the colour variants are not known, the Tab S3 will have a 4:3 display and its back will be made of plastic.

As per NEUROGADGET, the Galaxy Tab S3 could have an 8-inch display as well as larger 9.7-inch one. AMOLED technology will be used and it will have a screen resolution of 1536X2048 pixels. Early rumours about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 suggested that the tablet will have an 8MP primary and 2MP secondary camera.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB RAM and 4,000mAh battery is expected in the device. The larger tablet may sport a 5,870mAh battery.

Stay tuned on IBT AU for more updates on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3.
