Surface Pro 5 Specs, Price, Features, Release Date: What We Know So Far

#SurfacePro5 #Windows10 – Surface Pro 5 Specs, Price, Features, Release Date: What We Know So Far : Two sets of rumors are going around. One of them says Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 will be introduced in 2017, while the other set points to an October 2016 release. Several other reports say Microsoft might introduce or at least acknowledge the existence of such a device in October. However, it will hit the store shelves sometime early 2017.

Along with the Surface Pro 5, the Surface Book 2 is also expected to make a debut. However, the Book lineup did not receive the same reception as the Pro variant in the past. Let us hope, the well-built, better-equipped Book lineup gets its due this time around.

Surface Pro 5 Price, Specs, Features

Microsoft has been rumored to have housed 4K screen resolution in the Surface Pro 5, according to a latest report from TNH Online. Under the hood, the Intel Kaby Lake processor is expected to power this tablet. Kaby Lake is Intel's seventh-generation processor manufactured using the existing 14nm process with some design changes onboard.

According to WccfTech, the Kaby Lake will not bring incremental improvements to the processor performance. But then, it will be compatible with the existing platforms. To top it off, it apparently supports the next-generation 200-series platform.

The point to be noted however is that the Kaby Lake chipsets will not be available for OEMs until the end of 2016. Therefore, the mass shipment will happen sometime in the last few months of this year. This is precisely why we are inclined to believe the postponement of Surface Pro 5 release to 2017.

The same Kaby Lake chipset will be powering the MacBook Pro 2016 and MacBook Air 2016 as well. Apart from the processor, the upcoming Surface devices are expected to run Windows 10 Redstone 2 out of the box.

Furthermore, the Surface Pro 5's stylus "Surface Pen" will apparently see a lot of improvements when compared to the current-generation device. The Pen is expected to come bundled with wireless charging mechanism onboard. This can be achieved by magnetically attaching the gadget to the device's surface.

Other than the standard connectivity options, rumor has it that a Type-C USB port will also make a debut. The rumored Surface Pro 5 price will be in the range of $899 and $1,599, depending on the configuration choice. Source: Thebitbag

IPAD PRO 2 RELEASE DATE RUMORS, SPECS: THREE VARIANTS TO ARRIVE IN Q4 2016? SUPPORT FOR REVAMPED APPLE PENCIL

#iPadPro2 #Tablet – iPad Pro 2 release date rumors, specs: Three variants to arrive in Q4 2016? support for revamped Apple Pencil : Despite the lack of an announcement from Apple regarding their touted next-generation tablet, the iPad Pro 2, tech enthusiasts are said to be hoping they will arrive during the fourth quarter of this year alongside the MacBook Pro 2016.

Reports claim that after the September keynote address that unveiled iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch 2, the Cupertino-based giant may now focus on their other products. The new iPad Pro is believed to come in three variants featuring different screen sizes with impressive specifications under the hood.

The base model is said to have a 9.7-inch display powered by the A9X chipset, while the two higher-end variants will have 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch screens, both equipped with the A10X processor and advanced graphics technology. The latest system-on-chip (SoC) will apparently provide a smoother navigation system when panning, scrolling and zooming in or out.

They may also be a revamped Apple Pencil deemed to be more advanced than its predecessor. According to an anonymous source who spoke toBloomberg, there might be new software installed in the gadget to make it compatible with the aforementioned upgraded accessory. It has been noted that a feature seemingly designed for the iPad also rolled out last year, allowing two applications to work simultaneously.

If this comes to fruition, the tablets are expected to be useful to many professionals as they can use the stylus in a wide variety of apps including the Safari browser, their preferred email account handler and iMessage.

Moreover, the devices may also follow the radical change applied to the iPhone series which eliminated the traditional 3.5mm audio jack to sport new cordless headphones dubbed as AirPods. A revolutionary design showcasing an AMOLED display may also be launched in 2018 as tipped by renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

However, since there is no confirmation yet, available information should be taken with a grain of salt. Source: vinereport

iPad Mini 5 release date, price, rumors: 3D Touch iPad with A10 processor coming on March 2017

Apple is expected to release iPad Mini 5 with improved features in March 2017. Even though Apple fans keenly expected the release of iPad Mini 5 during the September 7 event, the company only announced iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch Series 2.

According to industry analysts, the iPad Mini 4 was launched in September 2015. Hence, the tech enthusiasts expected the release of iPad Mini 5 on September 2016. According to latest reports emerging from the rumor mills, the upcoming iPad Mini will be launched in March 2017.

iPad Mini 5 design

Talking about the design, the Apple iPad Mini 5 is also rumored to ship with the same aluminum material, which was originally used on the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The main attraction of forthcoming iPad Mini is the possible elimination of headphone jack to accommodate lightning port connector. Moreover, you can also expect the addition of dust and water resistance features.

iPad Mini 5 to ship with pressure sensitive technology

Expected to be equipped with pressure sensitive 3D touch technology, the iPad Mini 5 features a 7.0-inch retina display, 3GB RAM, and 32GB internal storage. Interestingly, the internal storage can be expanded by up to 256GB. Apple devices will not allow expansion of storage but iPad Mini 5 will be a new refresh.

New iPad Mini will have Apple A10 processor and thin body

Since the recently launched iPhone 7 shipped with Apple A10 processor, the new iPad Mini will also feature this processor. You will be able to experience improved performance coupled with low heating. As per reports, the iPad Mini is expected to be thinner (5mm) than the previous counterparts, which had 6.1mm thickness.

If the upcoming iPad Mini comes with a thinner body, you can expect smaller battery with a 5124mAh capacity. However, the upcoming tablet will not compromise on the battery life. On the imaging segment, you can expect 8MP rear camera alongside a 1.2MP front-facing snapper.

There are reports that Apple is expected to launch an iPad Pro with a 10.5-inch display. Moreover, the retina display infused with iPad Mini will be larger than the currently available iPad Mini variant. That being said, it will be smaller than the 10.5-inch display of the rumored iPad Pro.

iPad Mini 5 Price

Apple is expected to release two variants of iPad Mini 5. The first model with 32GB internal storage and Wi-Fi will be available at $430. The Wi-Fi with 4G model alongside 128GB storage will be priced at $770.

MacBook Pro 2016 release date, specs, rumors: Next-gen MacBook Air, MacBook Pro expected in October

When everyone is talking about iPhone 7, Apple is gearing to release MacBook Pro 2016 in October 2016. According to Rhoda Alexander, Director of Tablet and Notebook PCs at IHS Markit Technology, the Cupertino-based company will release new refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops in October 2016.

Rhoda, meanwhile, said that the production for Apple's new 13.3-inch and 15.4-inch MacBook Pro laptops started in the Q2 2016. This means you will not find Intel's new Kaby Lake processor in the new models.

MacBook Pro 2016 will likely ship with Intel Kaby Lake processor

To recall, Kaby Lake processor was announced by August end. However, the processor already started to reach manufacturers and OEMs during the second quarter of 2016. Hence, it is still possible for the company to integrate Kaby Lake into new Apple MacBook Pro 2016.

MacBook Pro 2016 will have OLED display

In August 2016, a report published on Bloomberg revealed that the company is gearing up to launch a revamped MacBook Pro with an OLED display above the keyboard. Meanwhile, Apple insiders have coined this new feature as a Dynamic Function Row. The report also specified that the new MacBook Air will feature a USB-C port. That being said, the new

MacBook Pro is expected to ship with a new graphics processor

Responding to media queries via telephone, Rhoda added that there is no clear confirmation as to whether Apple will integrate Intel Skylake or Kaby Lake processor. Since the production started in Q2 2016, the company may preclude Kaby Lake.

Intel Kaby Lake will have improved graphics

If you analyze the list of processors offered by Intel, SkyLake has a huge collection instead of Kaby Lake. Hence, it remains to be seen as to whether Apple will infuse Kaby Lake into new MacBook Pro. However, the new Kaby Lake processor offers enhanced graphics performance.

According to analyst Daniel Matte at market researcher Canalys, Apple will most likely include an option for AMDs latest Polaris graphics processors.

MacBook Pro 2016 will have a flatter keyboard

Expected to be thinner than the currently available MacBook, the forthcoming MacBook Pro 2016 will feature a flatter keyboard. According to Bloomberg, the new premium MacBook Pros will be thinner "but are not tapered like the MacBook Air and latest 12-inch MacBook". Moreover, the new MacBook Pros will have a smaller footprint than existing models with shallower curves casing around the edges.

MacBook Pro 2016 specifications
  • 13.3-inch retina display
  • 15.4-inch retina display
  • Possibility of 5K external display support
  • Intel 2.5GHz processor
  • Up to 8 GB RAM/256GB internal storage
  • 4 USB-C ports (2 on each side)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 port
  • TouchID fingerprint recognition
  • Apple Pencil support
  • Magic Trackpad
  • OLED touchbar controls
  • MacBook Pro 2016 Pricing

If the rumors turn out to be true, you can expect the release of MacBook Pro 2016 in October.

Apple is expected to sell MacBook Pro 2016 at a higher price than the existing variant. While the default 13.3-inch model is expected to be available at £999 ($1,119), the premium 15.4-inch model will be priced at £1,999 ($2,099).

Google may launch Andromeda OS on rumored 7-inch Huawei 'Nexus' tablet

Google is hyping up its October 4th event for the new Pixel phone unveiling, but there may be a crazy #onemorething happening too. As we reported earlier today, Google is working on a new Android-based OS code named Andromeda that integrates some features from Chrome OS, making it more suitable for use on a laptop-like device. This might be previewed at the event. Now, 9to5Google reports that Google's first Andromeda device will be that long-rumored 7-inch Huawei-built "Nexus" tablet.

There are a few interesting, and somewhat confusing things about this rumor. For one, they're calling this a Nexus tablet, but we're under the impression that Google is moving away from Nexus branding. 9to5 hedges it bets here—the branding might change. Previous leaks from Evan Blass pointed to this tablet launching by the end of 2016, but that would be far too soon for a full Andromeda release, as far as we're aware.

It's possible that all parties could be right about this tablet, at least in some limited fashion. The 7-inch Huawei tablet could come out later this year, but run Android at first. Andromeda could be available as a developer preview, and as a developer-focused device, it could retain the Nexus branding. In this version of the future, only Google's consumer-focused devices would become Pixels. Running Andromeda on a 7-inch device doesn't necessarily seem ideal from what we know of the platform, but perhaps the tablet will offer video out, making it an ideal way for developers to test Andromeda on larger displays. This is all just speculation, but we might know more come October 4th.

iPhone 8 release date, rumors: Alleged iPhone 8 logo surfaces in trademark filing

A recently filed trademark filing of Apple with Application Number – 303906667 has revealed the possible symbol, "8" for the next iPhone aka iPhone 8. According to a trademark filing, the Cupertino-based tech giant may already have a logo in mind for the iPhone 8. Interestingly, the latest rumor was leaked out by Patently Apple, which is well known for exposing credible leaks.

Reportedly filed in Hong Kong on September 24, the "8" logo is designed and crafted from colored circular bars similar to those found on Apple's Activity app. According to Patently Apple, Apple has filed two separate trademark requests in Hong Kong.

    1

Patent application with five colors revealed

The patent application clearly signifies that Apple has used black, pink, red, green and turquoise blue as elements of the trademark. We guess that this could be possible colors of iPhone 8 variants. Moreover, the address on the trademark filing points out the exact physical address of Apple.

    2

iPhone 8 second request filed under Class 45

On the other hand, the second request was filed under International Class 45, which covers personal services. It also provides consumer-centric information for both online and in real life. This signals the fact that the upcoming iPhone 8 will ship with massive features not found in the previous counterparts.

ONE OF THE TRADEMARK FILINGS WAS FILED UNDER INTERNATIONAL CLASS 9 WHICH COVERS EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN.

Meanwhile, Apple declined to reveal any information about the filing. Apple is planning to launch another launch event in October, where iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be released in India and other countries not covered in the first and second phases. According to industry analysts, the second launch event will also witness the arrival of new variants of the MacBook.

When the recently released iPhone 7 has not hit the retail stores in few countries like India, Apple is gearing up for the release of iPhone 8.

Google Nexus 7 tablet 2016 release date rumors: Next-gen tablet believed to come out alongside Google Pixel on Oct. 4

Google Nexus 7 tablet 2016 release date rumors: Next-gen tablet believed to come out alongside Google Pixel on Oct. 4:(ASUS)Official product render for ASUS' Nexus 7 tablet

Many Android fans are getting pretty hyped for an event that Google is holding on Oct. 4, presumably for the unveiling of the Google Pixel flagships — previously known and referred to as HTC Nexus Sailfish and Marlin. However, there is one device which fans have yet to receive any kind of clue as to the timing of its inevitable release, and that is the Google Nexus 7 (2016) tablet.

Due to the lack of promotional teasers for the tablet, a lot of gadget enthusiasts may now be wondering: will the next-generation Nexus tablet be launched alongside the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL on Oct. 4? Reports believe that it might.

PC Advisor UK suspects that the unveiling could still happen alongside the new smartphones from the tech giant. However, since Google has not released any clues yet regarding the matter, fans are highly advised to keep an open mind for the time being.

As for who will manufacture it, though, famed and usually reliable tipster, Evan Blass — also known on Twitter as @evleaks — had previously stated that Huawei will helm the production of the Google Nexus 7 (2016) tablet.

This has already been hinted before when Huawei announced that they are keen to pursue the collaboration with Google.

Google Nexus 7 2016 release date: Tablet called Pixel 7; to launch alongside Pixel smartphones?

(REUTERS/Beck Diefenbach)Shown in the picture is Nexus 7 tablet 2013 demonstrated during a Google event at Dogpatch Studio in San Francisco, California on July 24, 2013. Rumor has it that Google and Huawei will be releasing the Google Nexus 7 2016 within the year.

Less than two weeks from now, Google is expected to unveil the new line of devices at the Pixel event. Reports have speculated that the tech giant will most likely introduce its new flagship smartphones, but there are rumors that the upcoming Huawei-made tablet, the Nexus 7 2016, will also be launched.

According to reports, the Nexus 7 2016 tablet may have a surprise launching along with the upcoming Pixel phones, which are formerly branded as Nexus phones. The Google event will take place on Oct. 4. Since the upcoming Google smartphones' brand name has been changed to Pixel, it is also likely that the tech giant is renaming all of its handheld products, including the supposed Nexus 7 2016. So, it may be called Pixel 7 tablet.

Google has not confirmed the speculations on Nexus 7 2016's release. Also, Huawei remains tight-lipped about manufacturing the tablet for the California-based company. "We don't comment on future products, as a matter of policy," according to a statement from Huawei's PR regarding the rumors. "We are proud to have worked with Google, which is strong in innovation, on the Nexus 6P and will continue to collaborate in the future."

As for the specs, the upcoming Nexus 7 may sport a 7-inch pressure-sensitive display that has a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it will either run on either Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processing chip or NVIDIA Tegra X1 chipset. The processor will be matched with a 4 GB RAM with 64 GB of internal storage space and an Adreno 530 graphics card. There is also a memory card slot that is expandable up to 2 TB of SD card. A 13-megapixel camera at the rear side will also be included.

Other rumored specs also include the 5,100 mAh battery, which is a thousand mAh higher than that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3.

More details regarding the Google Nexus 7 should come out soon.

Google Pixel phones price, specifications, release date: Everything we know before the Oct 4 launch

Google is all set to showcase some new hardware for us smartphone nuts. The company has already sent media invites for an event slated for October 4 in San Francisco. Besides, they've also posted a teaser video that shows a rectangular Google search bar that in the end transforms into a smartphone.

Now this clearly suggests Google will most likely show off the highly-anticipated Pixel smartphones – Pixel and Pixel XL. These are the ones that will probably take over the Nexus range, and become the company's signature flagships from now. In essence, 2016 could mark a new beginning for Google with their very first Pixel phone.

Hence, we've compiled a list handy list of everything we know so far, and what Google will unveil at the upcoming event.

    Google Pixel and Pixel XL

Google has been promoting its event under the slogan "Made by Google," which fuels existing rumors about the company ditching the Nexus brand in favor of Pixel. These upcoming smartphones will likely be called Google Pixel and Pixel XL, and made by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC.

The Pixel is the smaller of the two and is expected to get a 5-inch full HD display, and the Pixel XL will be the high-end variant with a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display and a larger battery.

Apart from this, both devices share the same set of specs which include a Snapdragon 821 processor bundled with Adreno 530 graphics, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. Besides, rumors also suggest a 13MP primary camera along with an 8MP selfie shooter. They are expected to come in Black and White color options.

As far as pricing goes, it seems Google is going all guns blazing to take on the likes of iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7. Android Police reports that upcoming Pixel smartphones will start at $649, which is the kind of price tag reserved for flagships from Samsung and Apple.

Not to forget, both devices will likely run the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, with support for Google's DayDream VR headset.

    Google DayDream

At it's I/O conference back in May, Google revealed its plans to go full throttle in the VR space and announced the DayDream VR platform. Hence, we can expect the company to show off its DayDream VR headset running on upcoming Pixel smartphones. Google has reportedly made a huge investment to ensure there's enough VR content for its DayDream VR platform when it launches. Besides, reports do indicate that Google is expected to launch the headset alongside its latest smartphones.

    4K-ready Chromecast

Google launched it's first Chromecast back in 2013, an affordable HDMI dongle that essentially makes your television a SmartTV. It lets you wirelessly cast content onto your television screen.

The Chromecast update has been due for over a year now. And it seems the company is finally prepping the launch of its 3rd generation model alongside its Pixel phones, that'll reportedly have 4K capabilities. Though, we're not sure if the 4K Chromecast will be as economical as it's predecessors.

    Google Home

Google is also expected to reveal more information about its Amazon-echo like device called Google Home. It's essentially a voice-activated Wi-Fi speaker that also functions as a smarthome control center, and acts as an assistant for your entire home. You can use it for managing daily routine tasks, ask for information, or use to it play music. It houses a speaker underneath the shell which allows you interact with Google Assistant.

Google said we could expect the device to be released "later this year." Hence, it is likely that we hear more about it on 4 October.

    Other products

So what else does Google has in store for October 4th. If rumors are true, Google could also announce a Huawei-made 7-inch Pixel tablet. Even credible tipster Even Blass aka @evleaks tweeted that Google is indeed prepping a new tablet that'll be built by Huawei. Could it be a genuine successor to the Nexus 7 (2013), we'll find out more on October 4. Till then, hold onto your horses and stay tuned for more information.

iPad Mini 5 release date rumors: Latest render to be out early 2017 despite being a no-show at Apple event

#iPadMini5 #Tablet – iPad Mini 5 release date rumors: Latest render to be out early 2017 despite being a no-show at Apple event : As always, Apple has remained silent about their other product lines that were not mentioned during their big reveal earlier this month. Aside from rumored deletion of the Air lineup from their roster, one of the company's devices worth mentioning is the latest render of the iPad Mini which was also snubbed in this month's event.

It can be recalled that the Cupertino-based high-end device maker was able to unveil two of their long-awaited devices, the Apple Watch Series 2 and the iPhone 7. Moreover, Apple also dished out their latest operating system for handheld devices dubbed the iOS 10 including the "Super Mario Run" gaming app which debuted on Apple handhelds.

However, other devices like the aforementioned iPad Mini 5 were no-shows during the said event. Rumor has it that compact variant of the iPad could be released early next year after the company has dished out their equally hyped ultraportable computer, the MacBook Pro, which is speculated to be released before the year ends.

In addition, since talks are getting rife about the demise of the Air series and with it eventually being replaced by the Pro roster, tech connoisseurs have deduced that the yet to be unveiled slab could be suffixed with latter naming it the iPad Mini Pro.

Contrary to the substantial number of speculations surrounding the unreleased iPad Mini 5, information about the tablet's specifications are still scarce at the moment. Nonetheless, it is said that in the event that a new iPad Mini would surface in the following months, the latest make of the tablet could arriving with a tweaked 32 GB entry-level iteration quashing its 16 GB predecessor.

Furthermore, it was noted previously that the next iPad Mini might boast a slimmer profile, longer battery life, and will obviously carry the recently released iOS 10. Details regarding the iPad Mini 5's release are still vague so fans should be taking the abovementioned information with a pinch of salt. Source: vinereport

Xiaomi Mi 5s with Snapdragon 821 SoC and Sense ID launching in China on 27 September

Xiaomi Mi 5s with Snapdragon Sense ID is expected to launch on September 27. The company has started to mail media invitations for the Mi 5s launch event expected to take place in China on the next week.

Even though the invite doesn't specifically mention the name of the smartphone, the "S" character on the invite clearly reveals the fact that Mi 5s is on the anvil.

    xiaomi-5s-teaser-e1474253278723

Recently spotted at AnTuTu, the Mi 5s has been certified in China several weeks ago. However, the phone has yet to make any presence on the TENAA so far. There have been widespread rumors about the Mi 5s for quite some time. Moreover, the phone has been subject to multiple leaks and rumors for the past several weeks.

The main attraction of the upcoming Mi 5s will feature Qualcomm's brand-new Snapdragon Sense ID. Touted to be an enhanced release of the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor will be located just below the physical home button of the phone. This is for the first time the Xiaomi is gearing up to make use of the fingerprint sensor manufactured by Qualcomm.

    Xiaomi Mi 5s Specifications

On the specifications front, the Xiaomi Mi5s features a 5.15-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 821 processor, Adreno 530 graphics. According to sources, there will be two different variants of the Xiaomi Mi 5s. The first model will bear 3GB LPDDR4 RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the second version will have 128GB storage on top of 4GB RAM. There are also reports of possible 6GB RAM coupled with 256GB of ultra-fast SSD UFS 2.0 storage.

Talking about optics, the Xiaomi Mi 5s will accompany a 16MP rear camera with 4-axis OIS, PDAF focusing, and a f/1.8 aperture. However, we don't have any confirmation about the front-facing snapper, although we expect at least 8MP sensor with LED Flash support.

    Xiaomi Mi 5s Pricing

iPad Mini 5 release date, specs news: iPad Mini could still be unveiled this month

#iPadMini #iPadMini5 – iPad Mini 5 release date, specs news: iPad Mini could still be unveiled this month : Apple recently launched their latest iPhone smartphones, the Apple iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, earlier in the month. Despite the excitement over their new offerings, some fans were disappointed when the company did not really mention any updates regarding their highly anticipated new iPad Mini, the Apple iPad Mini 5.

Some reports are, however, still positive about its arrival and have mentioned that the tablet may even be launched within the month. Several reports have predicted that Apple may still be launching the iPad Mini 5 within the month and that it would likely be unveiled alongside the new 2016 MacBook Pro.

Some point out that the iPad Mini 5 may be launched with an entirely different moniker in order for it to be in line with the current products Apple has released. There are rumors suggesting that the iPad Mini 5 might actually be called an iPad Pro Mini and that it will contain some of the features and specifications of its bigger siblings.

With the official designation of the iPad Mini aside, the new tablet is rumored to be coming with the company's older A9 processor which should still be quite a performer given the device's lower performance demand. The device will also likely be coming with Apple's latest iOS 10 operating system out of the box.

As for the design, the new iPad Mini will likely sport an even sleeker design than its predecessor, thanks to the use of sturdier materials. There are also rumors claiming that the iPad Mini will likely be fully waterproofed, similar to the new iPhones. It might also come with the same features as the new iPhone 7, including a 3D touch and its lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

None of the claims have been confirmed yet, so it still remains to be seen if Apple will be incorporating any of the aforementioned features into the new iPad Mini. Source: mnrdaily

iOS 10 Review: What’s New for iPad

Apple continues adding new features and tweaking old ones with iOS 10. There were a great many changes in iOS 9 for iPad, but the follow up has more to offer iPhone. Still, there definitely are enhancements to benefit those with an iPad Pro or iPad mini.

We extensively tested iOS 10, and here are the new or updated features that will mean the most to tablet users. We also catalogued some much needed enhancements that are notably absent.

    Split View Safari Tabs

iOS 9 brought much needed support for side-by-side multitasking–the ability to display two applications on-screen at the same time. While that was all very well, each app was still limited to a single window. This was especially burdensome in Safari, as people frequently want to display two web pages simultaneously.

This limitation began changing with iOS 10. Apple's web browser can now show a pair of sites, with each taking up half the screen. Arranging the two pages on the display is simple–go to the list of open browser tabs and drag one to the side of the screen to open it in a second window–but this split-view feature is limited only to landscape mode.

    iOS 10 Review

Split View Safari Tabs in iOS 10

Ending split view is just as easy, but not as intuitive as it could be: Touch and hold on one of the Tabs icons and choose Merge All Tabs.

This is a welcome step in the right direction, but now this functionality needs to be extended even further. iOS 11 should give third-party app developers the same feature. iPad users need to be able to work with two Word documents at the same time, for example.

    Notification Center

iOS 10 changes the look of the Notification Center, and makes it more functional too.

Dragging from the top of the screen brings down a list of recent notifications that now appear in grey boxes with rounded corners. Dragging each of these to the left allows the user to either clear the notification or jump to the application that sent it. A small X button can be used to clear all notifications at once.

From the Recent Notifications page, dragging the screen to the right brings up two columns of widgets. These can be a thumbnail view of the calendar, weather reports, and similar snippets of information.

    iOS 10 Review

    iOS 10 Widgets

An Edit button at the bottom of the left column opens the controls of which settings are displayed, and in which column, and in what order.

    Lock Screen

Apple made significant changes to the way people use their tablets before they are even unlocked. First off, Slide to Open has been removed, and just pressing the Home button has taken its place. This simplifies the process considerably, especially as everyone should already be touching this button so their fingerprint can be scanned to unlock the computer.

    iOS 10 Review

    iOS 10 Lock Screen

Before the iPad is unlocked, iOS 10 can show users their newest notifications. They can also respond to these, by dragging the notification to the right. A whole conversation can take place in Messages without ever unlocking the tablet.

Dragging down from the top of the Lock Screen brings up a list of other recent notifications. Dragging to the right on the Lock Screen gives quick access to the same widgets displayed in the Notification Center.

Anyone who wants to keep private their notifications and the information displayed by these widgets should turn this feature off by going to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. This is especially important because otherwise anyone can respond to incoming text messages without unlocking the tablet.

Bad news: No current iPad has the motion-sensing chip necessary for Raise To Wake, so it's only users of recent iPhone models that don't have push the Power button to activate their devices.

    Control Center

Dragging a finger up from the bottom of the screen still opens a set of controls for toggling WiFi, Bluetooth, etc., but this has received a facelift with iOS 10. It's now split over two screens so everything is less crowded.

    iOS 10 Control Center

    iOS 10 Control Center

The main screen has the controls for various wireless functions, the backlight, as well as links to the camera and Clock app. Sweeping the finger to the left moves to a second screen that's focused on audio.

    Notes Collaboration

The Notes application has been gradually improving in recent iOS versions, and has now acquired collaboration capabilities. Users can notify another person that a note has been shared with them, and then they can both see and make changes. Apple suggests using this for simple jobs, like a family sharing a grocery list, not for a team collaborating on a patent filing.

    iMessages

Possibly the most important change in iOS 10 for iPhone users is the improvements to the Messages app. Although instant messaging is done primarily on a phone, that doesn't mean tablet users should overlook it. By turning on Settings > iMessage, conversations happening on a iPhone can also be displayed on an iPad. The larger screen and keyboard make longer conversations easier.

    iOS 10 Review

    iOS 10 iMessage on iPad

Apple added all kinds of fun features to iMessage, like bubble effects which cause texts to swell up, fall onto the screen with a bang, and more. Messages can be handwritten, or moving images can be inserted into conversations like really big emojis. These look better on a tablet than they do on a phone, even an iPhone 7 Plus.

    What's Missing

Apple has tried to keep iOS simple, even to the point of leaving out features it doesn't consider necessary. This is why this operating system debuted on the original iPhone without a central file system accessible to users. But what was the right decision in 2007 has since become a serious limitation. iOS 10 is intended to be used by businesspeople on tablets as powerful as laptops, and they need to be able to easily view and manage their files. Last year's iCloud Drive was a step in the right direction, but iOS 10 should have taken it much further.

There's another missing feature that's forcing buyers toward Windows-based alternatives: the new iPad Pro series is being positioned as laptop alternatives, and most people aren't yet accustomed to controlling this type of computer with a just a touchscreen. Apple recognized this when it released its Smart Keyboard, and it's time to take the next step and add a trackpad to this accessory, as well as support for it to iOS. It would be a step backward–a touchscreen is better than a mouse–but it would increase iPad sales.

Plenty of people have been asking for a removable memory card slot in iPad and iPhone for almost a decade, and at this point it's clear Apple isn't ever going to add one. Fortunately, many accessory makers offer very good alternatives, allowing iOS tablets to access microSD cards and flash drives. There are very good alternatives from SanDisk, Lexar, Leef, and more.

    Install Now

Split-screen support in Safari is probably the best feature for iPad users, but just about all of the new features in iOS 10 are useful, and others are fun. Some oft requested changes are still missing, though.

even so, people are wondering when they should install this onto their tablet. We have been testing the official release version on an iPad Pro since it debuted, and so far have encountered no significant problems. Apple's new strategy of allowing anyone who's curious to install iOS betas appears to have resulted in a final release version that's more stable than iOS 9 was when it debuted.

That said, there have been a few small bobbles. Anyone feeling very cautious might wait for Apple to introduce iOS 10.1.

Surface Pro 5 Release Date: What Microsoft Will Offer For Extra 100 Dollars

#SurfacePro5 #Windows10 – Surface Pro 5 Release Date: What Microsoft Will Offer For Extra 100 Dollars : Microsoft is unlikely to reveal anything about its upcoming Surface Pro 5 before October event. Rumor has it that the tech giant is holding a Windows 10 Devices Event next month.

However, there are lots of reports about the specs of upcoming laptop/hybrid. Fresh reports claim that Surface Pro 5 will cost $100 more than the price of Surface Pro 4. The new processor will hike the price of the new laptop/tablet hybrid. This is quite a good change as the new processor will bring a lot of new features.

Intel's Kaby Lake processor could increase the battery life of the forthcoming device. That is one of the biggest cons of Surface Pro lineup. The new processor will bring native USB support while the current Skylake chipsets require third party hardware of USB support.

Thus, Kaby Lake will affect the size of the device as well. Moreover, the new processor will add 4K display support. The device may have UHD display with a resolution of 3,840×2,160 pixels.

    Surface Pro

    Surface Pro

    Surface Pro

Microsoft launched Surface Pro 4 on October 7, 2015. Microsoft is expected to hold the event around the same date this year. Surface Pro fans and tech enthusiasts are expecting the new Surface Pro along with Surface Phone during this Windows 10 Devices Event. However, the chances of the launch during the October event are slim.

There are several indications toward the launch in 2017. Intel has released low power Y and U series Kaby Lake processors. Although Intel has launched the Kaby Lake processor, the most powerful processor that will power Surface Pro 5 will not be launched until the end of this year.

Moreover, microsoft is working on a new Windows 10 update, codenamed Redstone 2. It is likely that the company will hold the launch of the new hardware until the launch of the Redstone 2 update. The Redmond based tech giant is expected to release the new Windows 10 update in spring of 2017.

Microsoft may just refresh the current Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book this year. The upgrade will include a new processor and other minor changes. Moreover, Surface Book could receive the Nvidia GPUs.

However, Microsoft is yet to confirm the Windows 10 Devices October event. TheBitBag team will update the information as soon as the company confirms the details about the event. Source: Thebitbag

Why the Apple II ProDOS 2.4 Release is the OS News of the Year —

    prodos-2-4-splash

In September of 2016, a talented programmer released his own cooked update to a major company's legacy operating system, purely because it needed to be done. A raft of new features, wrap-in programs, and bugfixes were included in this release, which I stress was done as a hobby project.

The project is understatement itself, simply called Prodos 2.4. It updates ProDOS, the last version of which, 2.0.3, was released in 1993.

You can download it, or boot it in an emulator on the webpage, here.

As an update unto itself, this item is a wonder – compatibility has been repaired for the entire Apple II line, from the first Apple II through to the Apple IIgs, as well as cases of various versions of 6502 CPUs (like the 65C02) or cases where newer cards have been installed in the Apple IIs for USB-connected/emulated drives. Important utilities related to disk transfer, disk inspection, and program selection have joined the image. The footprint is smaller, and it runs faster than its predecessor (a wonder in any case of OS upgrades).

The entire list of improvements, additions and fixes is on the Internet Archive page I put up.

    prodos-2-4-bitsy-boot

The reason I call this the most important operating system update of the year is multi-fold.

First, the pure unique experience of a 23-year-gap between upgrades means that you can see a rare example of what happens when a computer environment just sits tight for decades, with many eyes on it and many notes about how the experience can be improved, followed by someone driven enough to go through methodically and implement all those requests. The inclusion of the utilities on the disk means we also have the benefit of all the after-market improvements in functionality that the continuing users of the environment needed, all time-tested, and all wrapped in without disturbing the size of the operating system programs itself. It's like a gold-star hall of fame of Apple II utilities packed into the OS they were inspired by.

This choreographed waltz of new and old is unique in itself.

Next is that this is an operating system upgrade free of commercial and marketing constraints and drives. Compared with, say, an iOS upgrade that trumpets the addition of a search function or blares out a proud announcement that they broke maps because Google kissed another boy at recess. Or Windows 10, the 1968 Democratic Convention Riot of Operating Systems, which was designed from the ground up to be compatible with a variety of mobile/tablet products that are on the way out, and which were shoved down the throats of current users with a cajoling, insulting methodology with misleading opt-out routes and freakier and freakier fake-countdowns.

The current mainstream OS environment is, frankly, horrifying, and to see a pure note, a trumpet of clear-minded attention to efficiency, functionality and improvement, stands in testament to the fact that it is still possible to achieve this, albeit a smaller, slower-moving target. Either way, it's an inspiration.

    prodos-2-4-bitsy-bye

Last of all, this upgrade is a valentine not just to the community who makes use of this platform, but to the ideas of hacker improvement calling back decades before 1993. The amount of people this upgrade benefits is relatively small in the world – the number of folks still using Apple IIs is tiny enough that nearly everybody doing so either knows each other, or knows someone who knows everyone else. It is not a route to fame, or a resume point to get snapped up by a start-up, or a game of one-upsmanship shoddily slapped together to prove a point or drop a "beta" onto the end as a fig leaf against what could best be called a lab experiment gone off in the fridge. It is done for the sake of what it is – a tool that has been polished and made anew, so the near-extinct audience for it works to the best of their ability with a machine that, itself, is thought of as the last mass-marketed computer designed by a single individual.

That's a very special day indeed, and I doubt the remainder of 2016 will top it, any more than I think the first 9 months have.

Thanks to John Brooks for the inspiration this release provides.

MICROSOFT SURFACE PRO 5 RELEASE DATE, SPECS: 4K UHD DISPLAY, KABY LAKE CPU, AND AMD GPU

#SurfacePro #SurfacePro5 – Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs: 4K UHD display, Kaby Lake CPU, and AMD GPU : The previously released Microsoft Surface Pro 4, despite its various shortcomings, has been a relatively successful product from the multinational tech company as it is able to offer a slew of features that meet the business users' demands.

With big shoes to fill, the upcoming new version of the Surface Pro, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, is expected to do even more and based on the rumors that are currently circulating, it might be able to do just that. Several of the rumored changes that are going to be implemented in the upcoming 2-in-1 tablet laptop are, apparently, based on user feedback and as improvements to the aforementioned shortcomings of its predecessor.

According to rumors, the upcoming Surface Pro 5 might be sporting the latest Intel Kaby Lake processor, which should be able to solve the battery problem plaguing the Surface Pro 4 as well as significantly improve the system's performance. The processor itself is rumored to perform much better than its predecessor and will be utilizing much less power while doing so.

Another big change that is coming to the tablet PC is the addition of a rechargeable stylus that is even believed to be able to charge wirelessly by docking into the device. The Surface Pro 4's battery-operated stylus did not receive much praise and was outright criticized by users.

Several reports have also revealed that the Surface Pro 5 may be coming with a 4K Ultra High-Definition display and that its resolution may be as high as 3840×2160 pixels. The UHD screen will also be quite useful, seeing as that the device will likely be a very capable gaming device.

This is due to rumors claiming that the Surface Pro 5 may be coming with Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) Polaris-based graphics processing unit (GPU) built in. At the moment, no official release date for the device has been revealed, but it is expected to be out sometime in 2017. Source: mnrdaily

Google Rumored to Be Planning Huawei-Built 7-Inch Tablet

The tablet would include 4GB of memory, but few other details are known at this time, according to a report by a well-known tipster.

Google is planning a 7-inch tablet computer that will be built by Huawei and offered for sale by the end of 2016, according to a Twitter post by well-known IT tipster Evan Blass. Google has offered Android handsets in the past through arrangements with manufacturers such as HTC, Huawei and others, but those handsets were designed by those companies and carried Google Nexus nameplates, without Google's own designs. Google has not previously designed and built its own phones.Earlier in September, Google suspended one of its other recent smartphone initiatives, its Project Ara smartphone effort, which began in 2013 with the concept of designing a phone platform that would incorporate a wide array of camera, audio and other modules as desired by users. Project Ara was ended as part of an effort to streamline the company's hardware efforts, even after its progress was touted at Google's I/O developer conference earlier this year. The company had said at that time that is expected to ship a developer edition of Project Ara this fall. The Ara phones centered on a baseplate or frame that incorporated a display, CPU, graphics processing unit, sensors and all the functi onality of a standard smartphone. Google was scheduled to release a preview version of Ara this fall in a bid to spur developer interest in the technology and ensure that modules for a wide range of applications would be available for the smartphone at launch. Organizations that were working with Google in developing modules for Ara included Samsung and Sony. Among the modules that Google was working on was one that would integrate the functions of a glucometer so people with diabetes could measure their glucose levels using their smartphones. In March, a Google Nexus handset, the Nexus 5X, debuted as the second phone being sold for use with Google's Project Fi mobile phone services, which start at $20 a month. The Nexus 5X smartphone is made by LG for use with Google's Project Fi inexpensive monthly wireless service plans. The Nexus 5X is priced at $349 for a 16GB model or $399 for a 32GB model.Project Fi is Google's inexpensive mobile phone service that came out in April 2014 under what was then an invitation-only system. Project Fi phone services recently opened to all users who buy or provide a compatible Nexus smartphone that will work with the service. So far, the Nexus 6P by Huawei, the new Nexus 5X and the earlier Nexus 6 are the only three smartphones that will work with Project Fi's network. Users pay $20 per month for cellular access, plus data fees of $10 per GB only for the data that is consumed each month. The monthly access fee also includes unlimited talk and texting, WiFi tethering and international cover age in more than 120 countries.

Google Nexus 7 2016 & Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 release dates, specs, features & rumours

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is still a mystery. It has already missed a few release dates. It was first expected in June or July. Next it was supposed to be launched with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on Aug. 2. Then there were rumours that it would launch at Berlin's IFA technology tradeshow in September. Still there was no mention of the tab.

Even Google has been very tight-lipped about its upcoming Google Nexus 7 2016 that may come in two variants, Pixel and Pixel XL. There are rumours that Google will start taking pre-orders in the US the same day it is revealed. This means, Google will make the devices available for pre-orders from Oct. 4 itself right after the release, reports TechnoBuffalo.

Although much of the information on Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and Google Nexus 7 2016 is based on rumours, enthusiasts cannot wait but compare the two as to which one would be a better buy. Mobile & Apps has provided an overview of the two devices that will help buyers decide if they should upgrade to newer versions or not.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is expected to sport a curved-edged display and Google is reportedly switching back to the 16:10 aspect ratio from 4:3. The device will be made available in two variants, 8-inch and 9.7-inch screens with AMOLED panel and 4K technology.

The Google Nexus 7 might have a 7-inch screen with AMOLED Quad display panel. Nexus Pixel and Pixel XL will sport a 2560 x 1440 pixels and 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 may sport an octa-core Exynos 8890 chipset, like that in the Galaxy S7 phone. There will be a 4GB RAM and internal storage of 32GB and 64GB. One of the variants may also have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. The Google Nexus 7 2016 may have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.

On the camera front, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is expected to feature an 8MP rear and 2MP selfie camera. The Google Nexus 7 2016 will have a 13MP rear camera with highly advanced functions.

Other rumoured top features in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 include a lightning fast USB Type-C port, 4,000mAh battery for the 8-inch model and 5,870mAh battery for the 9.7-inch one and an Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system and a planned upgrade to Android Nougat OS. It may be priced at US$420 (AU$560).

The Google Nexus 7 2016 will also sport a USB Type-C port, 5,100mAh battery with a Quick Charge 3.0 support and an Android 7.0 Nougat system. There are no reports as to the price of the device.

Amazon’s low-cost tablet to come with digital assistant

US online giant Amazon announced Thursday a new small-format tablet that includes its digital assistant Alexa.

The eight-inch (20-centimeter) display Fire HD tablet will start at $89 for US customers, making it one of the least expensive on the market.

"We believe in a different approach to tablets -- providing premium products at non-premium prices -- and customers love it," said Kevin Keith, manager for Fire Tablets.

"In fact, we've seen Fire tablet sales more than double year-over-year as a result. The all-new Fire HD 8 packs more battery life, more storage, faster performance, plus Alexa -- all for less than $90."

Amazon has not release specific sales figures for its tablets. But a survey by research firm IDC estimated the online titan was the fifth largest vendor in the second quarter with global sales of 1.6 million units.

Amazon also sells a seven-inch Fire tablet starting at $49 and a 10-inch device from $230.

The global tablet market, led by Apple's iPad, has been declining over the past few quarters, with some consumers turning to slim PCs, some with detachable keyboards.

Amazon's Alexa, which competes with Apple's Siri, Google Now and Microsoft's Cortana, is a key element of the company's strategy to move into the connected home and internet of things.

Alexa's skills include selecting music, appointment reminders, checking bank balances, ordering food, summoning Uber rides and more.

Google's New 7-Inch Android Tablet Specs Leaked: Snapdragon 820, 13MP Camera And More

Earlier this month, IBT reported that Google is planning to release a new 7-inch tablet with 4GB of RAM and it would be built by Huawei. Now, new information has surfaced detailing the specifications of the upcoming tablet.

The new Huawei-built Google tablet will feature a 7-inch quad-HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 64GB of storage and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, according to huaweiblog.de's sources from China (via Android Authority). There's no word yet on what the device will be called, but Huawei did successfully trademark Huawei 7P this past April. This is also reminiscent of Google's Nexus 6P from last year which was also built by Huawei.

Since Google will be dropping the Nexus brand from its upcoming new smartphones, called the Pixel and Pixel XL, it's possible that the new 7-inch tablet might carry the Pixel name instead. Based on the specs given above,  the device features the most recent high-end hardware which is a typical characteristic of how Google releases new devices, as pointed out by Slash Gear.

The last time Google released a standalone Android tablet was the Nexus 9 which was built by HTC. The company followed that up with the Pixel C which was more of a laptop-tablet hybrid because of its optional magnetic keyboard.

With this new 7-inch tablet, it seems like the device is more of a successor to 2013's Nexus 7 rather than the Nexus 9. The Nexus 7, which was built by Asus, is considered by many as Google's best tablet even now. The HTC-built Nexus 9 lacked that same appeal.

Google is expected to to hold a major hardware-centric event on Oct. 4 where the new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are expected to be unveiled. The new 7-inch Huawei tablet may make its debut there as well along with the new 4K-capable Chromecast and the Daydream VR headset.

How to Use a Different Home Screen Launcher on the Amazon Fire Tablet (Without Rooting It)

    Screenshot_2016-09-01-16-40-51

The Amazon Fire Tablet is a great little device for $50, but even though it runs Android, it doesn't feel like a true Android device. Here's how to get a more traditional Android home screen on your Fire Tablet–without rooting it.

This trick, thanks to an intrepid developer over at XDA Developers, gives you everything a custom launcher does on Android. That means you get more control your home screen, add widgets, and even use custom icon themes. In short: your $50 Fire Tablet now acts much more like a real Android tablet.

You'll probably also want to install the Google Play Store before continuing, if you haven't already. Then, use it to install the launcher of your choice. We're using Nova Launcher in this guide, because frankly, it's the best.

To start, open the Settings app on your Fire Tablet and go to the Security section. Turn "Apps from Unknown Sources" on, which allows you to install APKs from outside the Amazon Appstore.

    Screenshot_2016-09-01-16-20-26

Then, head to this page and download the LauncherHijack APK. Plug your Fire Tablet into your computer, and copy the app-release.apk file to your Fire Tablet's main storage using your computer's file explorer.

    screenshot.1

Back on your Fire Tablet, open the included "Docs" app, navigate to the APK file you just copied, and launch it.

If you're asked what app you want to use to open the file, choose the Fire "Package Installer" from the list. Follow the prompts to install the app.

    Screenshot_2016-09-01-16-07-50

When LauncherHijack is finished installing, just press "Done" and head back to the home screen. Then open the Settings app, head to the Accessibility section, and scroll down to "To Detect Home Button Press". Tap this option to turn it On.

    Screenshot_2016-09-01-16-11-31

That's it–provided you did everything correctly, pressing the home button on your tablet should deliver you to your new home screen instead of the Fire Tablet's default. You can move icons around, open the app drawer, and adjust the launcher's settings as you would on a normal Android tablet. (You may see the Fire home screen flash for a brief moment when you press the home button, but it should always go to your new home screen afterward. Such is the nature of hack-y workarounds like this, unfortunately.)

Huawei and Google to Release a 7-inch Tablet with 4GB RAM ‘before the End of the Year’

Up until now, we have only heard rumors about Google launching two new Google-branded handsets in October dubbed Sailfish and Marlin. However, it looks like the company has a surprise up its sleeve in the form of a 7-inch tablet from Huawei.

As per @evleaks, Google/Huawei plan on launching a 7-inch tablet with 4GB RAM before the end of this year. This is the first time we are hearing about a Huawei-made Google tablet, and it remains unclear if this tablet will be launched alongside the new Google-branded handsets at the rumored October 4th event or not.

Google's Huawei-built 7-inch tablet, with 4GB RAM, on track for release before the end of the year.

    — Evan Blass (@evleaks) September 5, 2016

Google's has launched quite a few tablets over the years that failed miserably. The first and second generation Nexus 7 tablets made from Asus were an exception to this though, with the latter still being regarded as the best Android tablet by many.

Considering that Android 7.0 Nougat comes with many multi-tasking oriented features, it does make sense for Google to launch a tablet to showcase these multitasking features in their purest form. For now, the specs of the Huawei-built Google tablet remains unknown, but now that its existence has been leaked, we should see some leaks pop up this month.

Are you excited about Google working with Huawei on a 7-inch tablet?

Super Evil Megacorp releases a beta version of Vainglory for Vulkan-enabled devices

The Vulkan graphics API is a big deal for mobile developers, since its direct GPU access allows for complex graphics to be rendered with a considerably lower hit to the processor, and thus a lower overhead on the hardware and battery life. A few devices like the SHIELD family and Samsung's 7 series already supported Vulkan several months ago, but Nougat now features full support for all updated Android 7.0 devices. Developer Super Evil Megacorp, which turned heads last year with its Vainglory mobile MOBA, now has a beta version that uses the Vulkan API.

This release of the League of Legends-style strategy game is more or less the same as the earlier edition, including full access to the popular multiplayer combat. Super Evil Megacorp (nope, that's not getting any less dumb) says that this Vulkan-enabled version runs 30% more efficiently on supported hardware, resulting in better battery life, faster controls, and higher framerates.

This version is technically compatible with Android 4.1 or higher, just like the standard Vainglory. But of course, your phone or tablet will need to support the Vulkan API in order to actually run the app. Vainglory is free-to-play with in-app purchases that go up to $100. Note that the Vulkan version is in beta, so it may be more unstable than the standard Play Store release.

SURFACE PHONE RELEASE DATE, SPECS: MICROSOFT TO UNVEIL SNAPDRAGON 821 DEVICE IN OCTOBER INSTEAD OF IFA?

#IFA2016 #SurfacePhone – Surface Phone release date, specs: Microsoft to unveil Snapdragon 821 device in October instead of IFA? : Microsoft is still quiet regarding their rumored Surface Phone but many are speculating that it will finally be revealed at the ongoing IFA 2016 in Berlin.

The said event will run until September 7 so fans still have several days of waiting should the Redmond-based tech giant decide to unveil the Surface phone. Rumors suggest that the Windows phone will be released by the end of 2016.

With more than half of the year already passed, users are anxious to finally see what Microsoft has in store for their Surface Phone.

There are some conflicting reports, however, as Microsoft is also rumored to present the Surface phone in October instead with their own press event, Vine Report has learned.

There is no word yet that Microsoft is attending IFA 2016 and the Surface Phone release date might not be actually unveiled at the said event.

Microsoft is expected to replace the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL with the new smartphone but the official specs and features have not yet been revealed yet.

Even the Surface Pro 5 tablet laptop hybrid has not seen the light of day. There are some leaked photos that show a Surface tablet supposedly to be released in 2016 with others for 2017 but no strong evidence for the Surface Phone yet.

Rumored Surface Phone specs state that it will have a 5.5-inch AMOLED display and a high-end variant will carry up to 8GB of RAM, iTechPost reported.

Since the mobile processor business of Intel has been discontinued, the device will reportedly be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 or a Snapdragon 830 chipset.

Microsoft's Surface Phone entry variant will reportedly have 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM which is more than enough for the average smartphone user.

The mid-range is a little more extreme with 128GB and 6GB of RAM while the most outrageous option, and probably with the least likely chance of being true, is the 500GB variant.

Surface Phone release date and specs will have to be unveiled by Microsoft themselves as the rumors seem to be far-fetched. People should expect updates before the end of the year. Source: Yibada

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 specs, release date: Kaby Lake proc to power device, not expected until 2017

Initial rumors hinted that the American tech conglomerate is delaying Surface Pro 5 release from late 2016 to spring of 2017. (Photo : YouTube/ Surface)

Microsoft has not yet confirmed the Surface Pro 5 specs or its existence itself but speculations and rumors are still spreading like wildfire with the latest one pertaining to the Kaby Lake processor.

The Redmond-based tech giant's rumored Surface Pro 5 is already being expected by many fans due to the success of its predecessor. However, no confirmation has been given so far by Microsoft but it is not stopping leaks from coming out.

Microsoft is reportedly using the i7 Kaby Lake processor for the Surface Pro 5 tablet which is claimed to have up to 20 percent in performance improvements compared to the Skylake processor also from Intel, International Business Times has learned. One improvement is its better use of the Overboost and Turbo Boost feature of the architecture which obviously gives more power for the tablet.

Since the Surface Pro 5 will inevitably be used for watching videos, customers will be glad to know that the new Kaby Lake processor is able to stream 4K video at a smooth 60 frames per second. In addition, the new HEVC Main10 video encoders will be beneficial for those who use such codecs for their video needs.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date is expected to be around 2017 although the company is also rumored to launch a separate tablet in 2016, PC Advisor UK reported. One leaked photo shows a Surface device and the 2016 in text which suggests an impending release from Microsoft.

There are also three more devices spotted in the photo with 2017 written on them. One of them could be the Surface Pro 5 but the images on the wall themselves cannot determine whether which devices will be released soon.

Speculations and rumors in the past few months have claimed that the Surface Pro 5 will be unveiled in May and released in June 2016. The Surface Pro 4 was also released in October 2015 which highly suggests that it would not be launched at least until the month has passed.

Microsoft will still need to announce the Surface Pro 5 release date and specs in an upcoming event. Fans should just not get their hopes up as the device is not expected to be rolled out until 2017.

ARCHOS 133 Oxygen Tablet “For The Family” Announced

Today, ARCHOS announced that it will expand and complete its range of Oxygen tablets introduced earlier this year with a newly-unveiled model called the ARCHOS 133 Oxygen. Like the previous models, the size of the tablet is revealed by the moniker itself, and unsurprisingly the ARCHOS 133 Oxygen is a fairly large tablet boasting a 13.3-inch display. According to ARCHOS, the 133 Oxygen was designed "to match users' needs at home", and the size of the screen surely reflects that. The company claims, or hopes that the new slate "will become the must-have family companion this season".

Digging deeper into the tablet's specifications will reveal a Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and a Rockchip RK3368 system-on-chip housing an octa-core processor clocked at up to 1.5 GHz, and a PowerVR SGX6110 graphics chip "for enjoying blazing 3D games and 4K videos". The processor works hand in hand with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, and users will have 64 GB of on-board EMMC storage at their disposal, along with the option of expanding the storage externally via microSD by up to an additional 128 GB. Multimedia users who may want to capture images using a rather large 13.3-inch tablet will rely on a 5-megapixel main camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing sensor. Overall, the ARCHOS 133 Oxygen tablet measures 339 x 219 x 10.5 millimeters, it weighs 1170 grams, and houses a generous 10,000 mAh battery which should provide enough juice for ~5 hours of video playback time, or up to 168 hours of stand by. The slate runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, it is equipped with 2 built-in speakers, and as far as connectivity is concerned users will rely on 2 micro-USB connectors, a 3.5-millimeter audio jack, a micro HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS / A-GPS, and Wi-Fi.

The ARCHOS 133 Oxygen will be available for purchase from the manufacturer's official website and through worldwide distribution channels in November, for the starting price of £179.99 (US$238 at today's conversion rate). Although the official announcement took place today in London, the company will also exhibit the ARCHOS 133 Oxygen at IFA 2016 in Berlin along with the new ARCHOS 55 Diamond Selfie smartphone, hopefully with additional details for release, pricing, and availability in tow.
