Cleveland police release 911 call that triggered child remains investigation

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland police received a call from Pakistan from a man named Scott Rodriguez on Monday regarding a report of a missing 5-year-old boy, Jordan Rodriguez.

Police responded to the home in question on Monday, located at 1361 West 80th St., and found nothing. Police returned to the home Tuesday and found human remains buried in the backyard.

The boy's mother, Larissa Maria Rodriguez, 34, has been taken into custody, and will be charged with murder and felonious assault on Thursday, according to Cleveland Police Public Information Officer Jennifer Ciaccia.

Police records show that 34-year-old Larissa has a history of violence as both victim and suspect.

Reports date back to 2002. There are various incidents involving a missing person case, domestic violence incidents and an assault.

Police have not yet released whether the remains are that of the missing 5-year-old boy.

The tip caller is the brother of the child's stepdad, Christopher Rodriquez. who is currently in the Medina County Jail.

Scott Rodriguez told police that the child was found unresponsive and was buried in the backyard two months ago.

"He told me that something happened with one of the kids and they didn't call the cops. Basically him and his girlfriend buried the kid in the backyard," Scott told the dispatcher.

According to Scott, Christopher was in tears when he confided to his brother about the alleged incident.

"He's like: 'I can take a lie detector test, I know I didn't hurt that kid, I can prove that, that's a fact. I came home, the kid was already dead,'" said Scott.

Family has confirmed a vigil will be held for Jordan, who's presumed dead, at his West 80th Street home on Thursday.

Tablet Command Releases Next Version of Leading Edge Mobile Software

Tablet Command, a pioneer of incident management software solutions, proudly announces the release of the latest version of their smartphone App:TC Mobile Version 1.4.

By leveraging the power of Tablet Command's CAD integration, TC Mobile provides early incident notification and greatly enhances situational awareness for every rank of Public Safety professional.  Early feedback suggests that response times, situational awareness, and emergency operations are being improved in a significant way.

This newest version is available to all Tablet Command enterprise customers and features a completely new look and feel, including enhanced graphics, faster notifications, and improved mapping.

TC Mobile continues to take advantage of the power and speed of mobile push notifications, alerting crews earlier than traditional methods.  These agency-specific push notifications often arrive more quickly than radio dispatches or station alerts, and this directly translates to reduced response times and higher levels of safety for the public and the workforce.

The latest version of TC Mobile also provides more robust mapping and users now have access to the same agency Esri map layers accessible in Tablet Command.  Users agree unanimously that having the ability to view fire hydrants, landing zones, apparatus status and location improves situational awareness and supports decision making at all levels and ranks.  Having this information readily available on smartphones allows crews to go directly to their apparatus rather than stop and consult disparate and antiquated tools like printouts, binders, and wall maps.  Crews powered by TC Mobile and Tablet Command are simply getting to calls faster and serving the public more effectively with better information.

Tablet Command is committed to transforming the way information is received, shared, and utilized by first responders. TC Mobile represents a key component of this commitment by putting detailed incident and response information in the hands of every first responder.

Founded in 2012 by Fire Captains Andy Bozzo and William Pigeon, Tablet Command Inc. creates leading-edge emergency management software that is intuitive and easy to use. Tablet Command Inc. is based in the San Francisco Bay area.  To learn more, visit tabletcommand.com

What the S/4HANA 1709 Release Means for Your Migration | @CloudExpo @SAPInMemory #ERP #Cloud

SAP HANA was released as a work in progress. Tenants could leverage the increased speed of the HANA database immediately, but had to wait for the updated SAP S/4HANA applications to be released. Each release has allowed applications to more fully harness HANA, creating new, compelling reasons to migrate for a range of use cases.

With the S/4HANA 1709 release, SAP has taken yet another step toward creating a complete product, with substantial benefits over Suite on HANA for most use cases. As with any ERP software, there will be future improvements and innovations, but at this point upgrading to S/4 is a worthwhile investment for nearly every landscape still on SAP ECC or Suite on HANA.

New Functionality in the S/4HANA 1709 ReleaseSAP S/4HANA 1709 provides brand new functionality in a range of sectors and industries, including manufacturing, finance, shipping, commodity management and procurement. Companies dealing with complex shipping and transportation needs will benefit from embedded Transportation Management, offering the same powerful logistical functionality as SAP Transportation Management without the need for a separate application, or the extra data footprint and complexity costs that entails.

SAP Financial Closing has also been added to the 1709 release core, along with better integration between different finance operations. This provides benefits in invoice and discount management, supply chain finance, more intelligent payment advice and other innovations.

Companies in consumer products (particularly food) will be able to harness Catch Weight Management, allowing them to efficiently cope with both variable inventory measurement and logistical quantity in a single, streamlined inventory management system.

Manufacturers creating complex products can use variant configuration, allowing them to efficiently modify product design on order. This enables companies to innovate rapidly, increase consumer choice and efficiently manage a growing range of customer needs.

Finally, the S/4HANA 1709 release brings improvements in machine learning and predictive analytics, which can be used throughout your landscape. It can help you match incoming payments to invoices, for example, or forecast contract consumption to help negotiate contracts and manage relationships with suppliers more effectively.

Whatever You're Doing, an S/4HANA Upgrade Will HelpThe release of S/4HANA 1709 represents a significant step towards a completely transformed ERP experience. No matter what industry you're in or what use cases you have, an S/4HANA upgrade will bring serious benefits over Suite on HANA or ECC.

Nokia Lumia tablet release date due next month?

Nokia is planning an event on September 26-27th in New York City. the company may unveil its new Lumia tablet running at the event.

Nokia is planning an event on September 26-27th in New York City. It's not clear whether it will be a public press event or an internal event, however, claims are being made that Nokia has plans to unveil its new Windows tablet at the event.

The New York City location has been important and special for Nokia. The company has unveiled the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 1020 at this same location, and it seems that Nokia is ready to make yet another announcement. Even though there are no details about the event and its agenda, but it's being speculated that we might get to see the very first Windows tablet by Nokia.

Nokia has already come up with its new flagship device, and presumably is not willing to come up with another Lumia smartphone to rival its own creation. In fact, the right thing for Nokia would be to release a Lumia tablet to accompany the Lumia smartphones. This will help Nokia boost sales and at the same time serve as a treat for consumers who are already into the Windows ecosystem.

Nokia has always been very specific about its devices, and the way and location in which they are released. The company usually unveils non-US focused smartphones in London, and other mid-segment smartphones etc. are showed off at technology conferences like CES.

However, there is another device that could be unveiled at the event instead of the tablet – the Lumia phablet. Recently, there have been a number of leaked images and specs sheet about a phablet device with large screen. Taking into consideration the leaked images, this phablet could very well be a part of the Lumia series running on Window Phone 8.

Nokia might unveil the new tablet or phablet or both, and might set the availability for November. At the same time, Microsoft will roll out the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update that will bring 1080p support to the platform.

Recently, a device named Nokia RX 114 was spotted in GFXBench. The device had a display resolution of 1371 x 771 pixels, a resolution that has never been seen before. This device could be in the pipeline, as Nokia tries to come up with its major release for this quarter.

AMD Radeon Adrenalin release date, new features, compatible graphics cards

Back in 2015 AMD renamed its Radeon software from Catalyst to Crimson. Then last year it tagged on ReLive Edition due to the inbuilt livestreaming capabilities.

Now, at the end of 2017, it has renamed it again to Adrenalin Edition. Not after the hormone, as you might guess, but after a red rose which matches Radeon's red colour.

The drivers include updates to Radeon Chill, WattMan, ReLive and Enhanced Sync. There's the usual performance improvements too (AMD reckons there's been a 15 percent boost in performance on average since Crimsom ReLive was first launched).

But the big news is a new in-game overlay which lets you check on your GPU, message friends and change settings.

Plus, there's a brand new AMD Link app for Android and iOS so you can use your phone as a second screen and get all that overlay info without it cluttering up your main screen.

When can I get the Adrenalin Edition driver and Link App?

The new drivers are available right now, and you can download them from AMD's website.

Similarly, the Link app is now in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and requires Android 5.0 onwards or iOS 10.0 or later.

Which Radeon graphics cards are supported?

You can get the Adrenalin drivers for the following AMD graphics cards:

  • Radeon RX Vega range
  • Radeon RX 500 range
  • Radeon RX 400 range
  • Radeon R9 300 range
  • Radeon R9 Fury Graphics
  • Check out our RX Vega 64 review.

What are the new features? Radeon Overlay

When you press Alt+R, the Overlay will pop up on the right-hand side of the screen when in a game. It gives you quick access to ReLive for recording and streaming games, performance monitoring (of FPS and system info), Radeon Chill settings (which now work on a per-game basis), FreeSync and colour settings.

    AMD Adrenalin Radeon Overlay

    AMD Adrenalin Radeon Overlay

With performance monitoring, you can quickly see the current FPS as well as log it over time (using Ctrl+Shift+L if you like).

You can also choose which metrics you want to see.

    AMD Link

The new Link app works on tablets as well as phones, and you pair it with your PC by scanning a QR code displayed in the Radeon driver interface (click the AMD Link button at the bottom).

Your phone / tablet needs to be connected to the same network as your PC for it to work.

The app replicates a lot of the functions of the overlay which effectively turns it into a remote control for ReLive.  That means you can start and stop screen recording and streaming, plus take screenshots.

It's easy to then share those captures on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and other services.

    What else is new?

Here are 7 new features you'll get in Radeon ReLive in the Adrenalin drivers:

    1. Integrated Chat - Talk to your viewers on Facebook, Twitch etc.

    2. Chroma Key - Put in your own background with a webcam

    3. Trim Videos - Built-in editing for videos in the gallery

    4. Gallery - Where you view your clips and screenshots

    5. Region capture - Pick just the part of the screen you want to share

    6. Separate audio tracks - Now you can edit game and mic audio separately

    7. Eyefinity support - Multiple monitors can now be captured

AMD’s Adrenalin overlay makes Shadowplay look like you're capturing on a wax tablet

    AMD Radeon Adrenalin

The AMD Radeon Adrenalin update is here, giving the Radeon GPU software it's now customary yearly update. Don't worry, they haven't abandoned the whole Radeon-means-red stuff, moving on from the Crimson and Crimson ReLive releases we've now got a software update named after a deep red rose. We've also got a mobile app and a rather sexy game overlay too.

Check out our pick of the best graphics cards available today.

We're not talking about a Radeon Crimson ReLive Redux release - thankfully that was just a wee joke from the AMD Vega launch that seemed to have gotten out of hand. It would have been a terrible name, "fire that marketing guy!" as AMD's Sasa Marinkovic, head of software marketing at AMD said when we were introduced to the new Radeon Adrenalin.

Named after the Adrenalin rose, because AMD are already starting to run dry of cool-sounding shades of red (and no, they can't use Ruby because someone else has already bagged that one), the new Radeon Software Adrenalin update is a mixture of little changes, some bigger updates, and a whole new slab of extra functionality.

    Radeon Adrenalin overlay basic settings

The headline-grabbing features surround the accessibility of the powerful ReLive capture and streaming feature, which they introduced last year. The main one being the impressive-looking overlay which sits on top of your game and gives you access to a whole host of settings, capture, and performance metrics with which to play.

It allows you to screenshot, record, and stream your gameplay without having to alt-tab out of the action in the same way the much more basic original Crimson ReLive overlay did.

But it's the instant, direct access to much of AMD's graphics enhancement technology, such as Radeon Chill and FreeSync, that makes the Adrenalin overlay so useful. It's all saved on a per-game basis, so any games that don't play nice with FreeSync (there are a few) or ones that you don't want to limit with Chill, can be set up with their own profile in just a few clicks. It's far easier than remembering to dig into the Radeon Setttings desktop app before you dive into a game.

Radeon Chill, the algorithmic feature which monitors what's happening in-game and limits frame rate, and therefore power draw, when it's not needed has itself had a rather big update. It used to operate on a whitelist basis, where compatible games were added, allowing you to enable Chill. Now it's switched around so that every game is deemed compatible unless it's added to a blacklist. AMD have been working their way through a host of games and so far the blacklist remains empty.

Chill is an impressive, borderline invisible bit of software which can really save on power and also heat generation. It really ought to be on by default but, as an AMD rep explained, people simply don't like stuff enabled by default.

    PC Performance Metrics

For us hardware nerds it also gives us access to a bunch of performance metrics too. These can be overlayed themselves during gameplay, with or without them showing up in any captured footage you record. You can also log the performance too, giving you figures for GPU, CPU, and RAM utilisation, temperature, GPU and memory clockspeeds, GPU power, fan speed, and yes, that all-important frames per second figure. You can set the sampling interval as well, from one to ten seconds.

AMD Radeon Adrenalin PC Performance Metrics

Unfortunately the only thing which doesn't work on a per-game basis is the colouring option. With the Radeon Adrenalin overlay you can adjust the colour (sorry, color) settings and see instantly how it will look in-game. Sadly this is a global setting, so if you happen to like a pink hue to your Wolfenstein gibbing that will stick around once you withdraw to the comparative safety of your Windows desktop.

We've tested the overlay in pre-release form and it's been remarkably stable for the most part. We've had a few issues where it wouldn't function in certain games, and only a single crash. But the capture is solid, barely seems to impact on gaming frame rates, and the performance metrics collection is going to be seriously helpful for us.

AMD have really moved forward with the functionality and stability of their software releases since Catalyst Omega, and it shows.

The new overlay also has an off-site companion in the shape of the AMD Link app. This is an Android or iOS application which ties into your PC (so long as both it and the phone are connected to the same network) and gives you both insight and control away from your PC.

The connection is super-easy and just requires you to point the app at a QR code and the rest is done for you. Then you'll have real-time monitoring of your system (mostly on the graphics side, obvs.), whether you want to have an overview or a constant single-screen look at the FPS or GPU clockspeed.

    AMD Link metrics

The app will also allow you to externally control capture of video and screenshots, as well as starting a broadcast with a single tap. By default the app stops the mobile device's screen from going to sleep, which means you can have it sat by your keyboard with a big green button waiting to be tapped to start your stream or capture.

Who wants to remember the complicated digital gymnastics needed to nail the various shortcuts?

    AMD Link capture

It's most definitely a gen one version of the application, and you can see where AMD can go from here - adding in customisable full-screen buttons, and streamed playback from your library of your files, for example. But it's not without it's issues. I had to continually reconnect the app as it wouldn't automatically sync when it was opened, and honestly it's more for the streamer than anyone else.

But this all speaks to AMD's desire to work with the huge streaming community, and not just the casual streamers either. They've entered a partnership with Stage TEN to use the ReLive output as a stream in their browser-based live mixer. It's a cloud-based setup which essentially works like a mixing desk, letting you flow pre-recorded and live streaming content together.

    StageTEN

They've also enabled live chat integration for your ReLive stream, so you can see the horrendous abuse you're getting for your gaming skills overlayed onto your screen. Like all good interweb chats it's a one-way thing so you can't actually respond to the torrent of hate that will come your way from the Twitch, Facebook, Mixer, or YouTube chat integration.

AMD have also split the audio tracks for voice and game, a much-needed feature of ReLive for streamers, and have brought in chroma key support for transparencies and borderless region capture support too. Most importantly though, AMD have also cut down the performance overheads associated with the ReLive capture, which means streamers' rigs aren't going to be as likely to drop frames as a result of the stream.

The update is out now, and anyone with a Radeon graphics card should absolutely get themselves over to AMD's download site and get the Adrenalin installed. If you're an AMD gamer, and/or hardware nerd it's a joy, highlighting and making the impressive Radeon tech more accessible, and if you're a streamer it's a must.

The app, well, that's going to be more of a niche offering.

HP Envy x2 release date, price and specs

It's been a while, but we officially have details of the first Windows 10 devices running on Snapdragon. Here's what you need to know about the HP Enxy x2.

It was looking like 2017 might end without any sign of these new Windows devices with Snapdragon 835 inside, despite Qualcomm earlier saying they would be available in the second half of the year. Luckily the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii has brought good news.

Read our hands-on HP Envy x2 review.

    Price and availability

At the Snapdragon Summit, HP was on stage to confirm that the Envy x2 will be available 'Spring 2018' so that's not very long to wait.

However, no pricing was announced so we're hoping that HP can keep the starting price similar to the Asus NovaGo - the other device with Snapdragon - which starts at $599.

    Specs and features

There are plenty of Microsoft Surface rivals - or clones if you like - out there and the HP Envy x2 is now another one. It's effectively a Snapdragon version of the Spectre x2.

Like the NovaGo, having a Snapdragon 835 inside is one of the headline features. So on the outside it doesn't really look any different to other 2-in-1s that run Intel or any other chip. The slight caveat here is that Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 845 at the conference so it's already out-of-date in a way.

    HP Envy x2

    HP Envy x2

The combination of Windows 10 and Snapdragon aims to offer various things including amazing battery life, performance and connectivity.

HP says the Envy x2 will last up to 20 hours. That's local video playback with the NovaGo offering an every more impressive 22. Microsoft says you can use these devices for up to a week without charging, so they could be game changing on this front.

That's not all as standy time is quoted at 700 hours and HP says you can get 0-90 percent charge in just 90 minutes.

Thanks to the Snapdragon 835's X16 LTE modem, the Envy x2 will keep you connected wherever you go just like your phone. We're talking potentially Gigabit speeds so up to seven times the average broadband connection.

Having a Snapdragon 835 also meant a promise for thinner designs and the Envy x2, made from machined aluminium is just 6.9mm and 680g (tablet only). The detachable keyboard, like the Surface, means you can use it in various different modes.

HP offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB and this will be the only model available, we're told.

The Envy x2 has a 12in screen with a 1920x1280 resolution and supports stylus input. There's audio by Bang & Olufsen, a microSD card slot, a USB-C port, a 13Mp rear camera and 5Mp front camera. The device comes pre-loaded with Windows 10 S.

Surface Book 2: release date, price, specs and features

The Surface Book 2 is Microsoft's latest attempt to make the ultimate hybrid laptop. We give you the low-down on the new device and what you can expect from it.

    Surface Book 2: release date

The 13in Surface Book 2 model is on sale now, following its release on 16th November 2017. At the Redmond giant's Future Decoded event in London in November, Surface chief Panos Panay also confirmed that the 15in configuration will go on sale "early next year".

    Surface Book 2: price

Four configurations of the new Surface Book 2 are currently available, with prices varying depending on your processor, internal memory and RAM requirements. The base model hybrid is priced at £1,499 and ships with 256GB storage, an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. An i7 processor variant is also available, retailing from £1,999 from the Microsoft store.

Should you require larger storage, the Surface Book 2 with 512GB memory, Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM is available for £2,499, whilst a 1TB version will set you back £2,999.

Surface Book 2: specs and features

With the Surface Book 2, Microsoft has opted for two screen sizes: 13in and a larger 15in version (available in early 2018). The 13in model looks and feels much like its predecessor on the exterior, retaining its premium, aluminium feel - whilst the keyboard and touchpad are both predictably outstanding.

Under the hood, the hybrid is powered by Intel's latest 8th-gen Coffee Lake processor, which Microsoft says makes it the "most powerful Surface device ever" - as well as boasting graphics performance that is "five times more powerful" than the original Surface Book. The top-end configuration boasts Intel's 8th-gen quad-core i7-8650U, making it one of the most powerful devices of its kind, notes sister site IT Pro. Models with 7th-gen processors are also available.

Microsoft has also finally decided to include USB-C with the Surface Book 2 instead of the mini DisplayPort found on its predecessor - but this does use USB 3.1 connection standard rather than Thunderbolt 3, resulting in a capped data transfer rate of 5Gbps.

In terms of battery life, using the Surface Book 2 with keyboard attached will offer 17 hours of battery life, Microsoft says, thanks to much of the battery capacity being incorporated into the keyboard. When detaching the keyboard for use as a tablet, the Redmond firm estimates that the device will provide 5 hours of video playback (double that of the original Surface Book).

This will mean that after release, logging in will provide 3 Kobolds & Catacombs card packs and a random Legendary weapon card, for free.

As mentioned above, Blizzard are also adding three sequential one-time Dungeon Run quests, each one awarding one Kobolds & Catacombs card pack, for a total of three more card packs.

This bundle includes 50 card packs and the For the Hoard! card back.

Merck's Mavenclad (Cladribine Tablets) Approved for Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in Canada

    DARMSTADT, Germany, December 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

  • First oral short-course treatment for relapsing - remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) now approved in Canada, which has one of the highest rates of MS in the world[1]
  • Mavencladhas shown sustained clinical efficacy with a duration of oral treatment of 20 days over 2 years
  • The approval of Mavenclad by Health Canada follows the recent approval of Mavenclad across Europe by the European Commission
  • Merck, a leading science and technology company, today announced that Health Canada has approved MAVENCLAD™ (Cladribine Tablets) as monotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) to reduce the frequency of clinical exacerbations and delay the progression of disability. MAVENCLAD™ is generally recommended in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients who have had an inadequate response to, or are unable to tolerate, one or more therapies for multiple sclerosis.[2] MAVENCLAD™ is the first and only oral short-course treatment to provide efficacy across key measures of disease activity in patients with RRMS, including disability progression, annualized relapse rate and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) activity.

"Mavenclad is a unique new treatment for our patients that offers potent efficacy with only 20 days of oral treatment over two years," said Dr. Ma rk S. Freedman, Director, Multiple Sclerosis Research Unit at the Ottawa Hospital, Senior Scientist at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and investigator for the CLARITY study.

"Health Canada's approval of Mavenclad represents a significant milestone," said Rehan Verjee, EVP, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at the biopharma business of Merck. "We are exceptionally proud of our long-standing partnership with the MS community in Canada and would like to thank the many Canadian patients and investigators who have supported the development of Mavenclad."

MAVENCLAD™ is a selective immune reconstitution therapy[3][4] which simplifies treatment administration, by giving patients just two short annual courses of tablets with a maximum of 20 days of treatment over two years. MAVENCLAD™ works by selectively targeting B & T lymphocytes followed by a distinct pattern of lymphocyte reconstitution, without continuous suppression of the immune system.[2]

The Hea lth Canada Notice of Compliance follows the European Commission (EC) marketing authorization received in August 2017. Product availability in Canada is expected in early January, 2018. Merck plans additional filings for regulatory approval in other countries, including the United States.

    About MAVENCLAD

MAVENCLAD (cladribine tablets) is approved in the European Union for the treatment of highly active relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS) and Canada for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The clinical development program for MAVENCL AD (cladribine tablets) includes:

  • The CLARITY (cladribine tablets Treating MS Orally) study: a two-year Phase III placebo-controlled study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cladribine tablets as a monotherapy in patients with RRMS.
  • The CLARITY extension study: a two-year Phase III placebo-controlled study following on from the CLARITY study, designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of cladribine tablets over an extended administration for four years.
  • The ORACLE MS (Oral Cladribine in Early MS) study: a two-year Phase III placebo-controlled study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cladribine tablets as a monotherapy in patients at risk of developing MS (patients who have experienced a first clinical event suggestive of MS).
  • The ONWARD (Oral Cladribine Added ON To Interferon beta-1a in Patients With Active Relapsing Disease) study: a Phase II placebo-controlled study designed primarily to evaluate the safety and tolerability of adding cladribine tablets treatment to patients with relapsing forms of MS, who have experienced breakthrough disease while on established interferon-beta therapy.
  • PREMIERE (Prospective Observational Long-term Safety Registry of Multiple Sclerosis Patients Who Have Participated in Cladribine Clinical Studies) study: interim long-term follow-up data from the prospective registry, PREMIERE, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of cladribine tablets This includes more than 10,000 patient years of data with over 2,700 patients included in the clinical trial program, and more than 10 years of observation in some patients.

Apple might release a new, cheaper iPad in 2018

    What's This?

    Image: peter macdiarmid/Getty Images

The iPad is great, but it's so damn expensive. That may be about to change.

Anonymous sources with intimate knowledge of Apple's supply chain told DigiTimes that the tech giant is considering releasing a 9.7-inch iPad for only $259 in 2018.

The new, inexpensive 9.7-inch iPad would be used to attract more customers that think the current model (which costs $329) is too expensive. The belief seems to be that a $70 price reduction would be enough to lure more customers into purchasing the tablet.

The sources expect Apple to release the new iPad in the second quarter of 2018. In addition to its typical consumer base, the company may try to push the device into the industrial and service sectors.

It's unclear whether Apple will alter the device's hardware or design to cut the cost. Digitimes reports that the company will outsource the iPad's production to Taiwanese manufacturer Compal Electronics, which also counts Acer, Lenovo, Dell, Toshiba, and Hewlett-Packard among it clients.

A price cut would come as little surprise. Tablet sales have fallen greatly in the past several years, and the iPad lost out to the Microsoft Surface Tablet in national consumer satisfaction for the first time this year.

The lower cost could help the iPad compete among price-conscious customers with high-end, cheaper tablets from competitors such as Amazon, Asus, and Huawei.

If these rumors are true, perhaps it's not the end of the Tablet era after all.

Latest Rumors Say Apple Will Release Cheaper iPad Next Year

Trending News: Why You Might Not Want To Buy An iPad Before 2018 Long Story Short

In an effort to attract new customers, Apple is considering releasing an updated and cheaper iPad next year.

    Long Story

Tablets are cool, I guess. They're like half-phone half computer. Not as cool as they were in 2010, but they can still make for a nice Christmas gift, right? Remember though, a good tablet should come with a good cover or case, because nothing is worse than having to pay half the price of the device just to get it repaired.

With tablet sales dropping in recent years, Apple is rethinking its game plan. According to insider intel as reported by Digitimes, the company is said to be planning the release of a new 9.7-inch iPad that will retail for $259.

This new price point represents a $70 reduction from the current model, which rings in at $329, and was introduced earlier this year. Despite cutting on cost, pricing still wasn't low enough to entice customers. Not only that, the iPad came in behind the Microsoft Surface Tablet in a customer satisfaction report for the first time ever last spring.

It's been a rough patch for the iPad since sales hit record highs in 2013-2014 which is why it looks like Apple is planning to release its more affordable tablet in the second quarter of 2018.

The report says the tech giant is setting out to expand its reach and wants to push this device towards the industrial and service sectors as well as regular price-sensitive consumers.

There are no technical specifications available for the tablet as of yet, but there's reason to believe it might just be a slightly tweaked, and hopefully improved, version of the current 2017 model.

If for some reason, you enjoy throwing money at Apple and want to drop some cash on a pricier model, by all means.

Otherwise, if you're in the business of saving your hard-earned dollars, you might want to hold off on purchasing a new iPad, until a more reasonably priced version hits the stands.

Things might get real crazy seeing as there's also been speculation about a new and cheaper iPhone in the works too. If any of this is at all true, the wait shouldn't be too long. Hold tight.
