With the S/4HANA 1709 release, SAP has taken yet another step toward creating a complete product, with substantial benefits over Suite on HANA for most use cases. As with any ERP software, there will be future improvements and innovations, but at this point upgrading to S/4 is a worthwhile investment for nearly every landscape still on SAP ECC or Suite on HANA.
New Functionality in the S/4HANA 1709 ReleaseSAP S/4HANA 1709 provides brand new functionality in a range of sectors and industries, including manufacturing, finance, shipping, commodity management and procurement. Companies dealing with complex shipping and transportation needs will benefit from embedded Transportation Management, offering the same powerful logistical functionality as SAP Transportation Management without the need for a separate application, or the extra data footprint and complexity costs that entails.
SAP Financial Closing has also been added to the 1709 release core, along with better integration between different finance operations. This provides benefits in invoice and discount management, supply chain finance, more intelligent payment advice and other innovations.
Companies in consumer products (particularly food) will be able to harness Catch Weight Management, allowing them to efficiently cope with both variable inventory measurement and logistical quantity in a single, streamlined inventory management system.
Manufacturers creating complex products can use variant configuration, allowing them to efficiently modify product design on order. This enables companies to innovate rapidly, increase consumer choice and efficiently manage a growing range of customer needs.
Finally, the S/4HANA 1709 release brings improvements in machine learning and predictive analytics, which can be used throughout your landscape. It can help you match incoming payments to invoices, for example, or forecast contract consumption to help negotiate contracts and manage relationships with suppliers more effectively.
