MacBook price crash Apple's laptop gets a bargain deal

Apple is getting ready to release a new generation MacBook Pro laptop and this is the reason why the Cupertino based company is offering the massive discount, but we don't know yet why Microsoft is selling its Surface Pro 4 at a lower price, considering that there are no rumors about a possible release of the Surface Pro 5 in the near future. There are rumors that the new MacBook Pro 20166 will be unveiled at Apple's WWDC 2016. While the tablet market has been in a steady slump for quite some time now, the iPad Pro 9.7 has everything inside its miniature 9.7-inch frame that you could ever want in a tablet.

Several reports online have shared their own concept of the next iPad Air 3 and among the stunning features of the tablet are a non-protruding camera lens, a 3D Touch display which it will borrow from the iPhone 6S, and support for the Apple Pencil, which it will get from the iPad Pro series. This event is scheduled to happen in San Francisco and if the rumors are to be believed, MacBook Pro will also be launched in the event.

Apple's MacBook Air has just had a major price cut.

March Apple event upset a lot of fans as it did not offer any updates about the MacBook Pro that is speculated to release in 2016. At Best Buy, the 13.3-inch model's price has been slashed off by as much as $300, as the 8-GB RAM and 256-GB storage variant now sells for $1,199.99. What are the things you expect from MacBook Pro 2016? Both the versions are expected to come with Retina Displays.

The report stressed that MacBook Pro 2016 will sport a significant graphics update and may run Intel's latest Skylake processor. As for the design, the new laptops might be lighter and slimmer than the current MacBook Air notebooks. If so, we are only less than two months away from seeing the anticipated MacBook Pro 2016. In an interesting effort to see how performance varies across every iPad model ever released - an astounding 12 devices in total - the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro recently dusted off Apple's older iPads and put together a well-done video comparison.

Nintendo NX Release Date Is March 2017

Nintendo NX release window was revealed yesterday during its annual financial results meeting. "NX will be launched in March 2017 globally", said Nintendo in a statement sent to MobileSyrup.

The game studio made the announcement via Twitter, saying that the highly anticipated game will come out on the Wii U and the new gaming platform NX sometime next year.

It's fair to say that the tablet-focused Wii U has not been a major hit for Nintendo.

There's also news on Zelda, with the release pushed back to coincide with the arrival of the NX. The company deployed the same tactic in 2006 with "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess", which was released on both the GameCube and Wii.

We can't fairly call this a delay, since Nintendo hasn't previously set a target for its NX launch.

All of this is expected to be resolved when E3 2016 arrives with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo officially unveiling their new or upgraded consoles.

With regards to the new Legend Of Zelda release date, this is the first time that Nintendo has stated that the game will be available for the NX.

Any real information on the NX console will have to wait till "later in the year".

Amid a lot of hype and uncertainties, at least one thing's for sure: the so-called Nintendo NX will hit the scene in less than a year.

Nintendo dropped some massive bombs overnight as it hosted a Japanese earnings briefing while the western world was mostly asleep. "Because developers need more time to polish the game, it will launch in 2017, but it will be the focus of Nintendo's presence at E3", confirmed Nintendo in a press release.

Hamilton needs a Russian hat-trickThe Australian failed to finish in Sochi last season, but believes he can build on his solid start to the season this weekend. It was probably the best outcome for him because he made up the places and didn't have a problem with the vehicle .

Top 10 Best Android Tablets Buyers Guide: May 2016 Edition

For some time now, we've been hoping for some better Android tablets to come along and add some spice to the fairly lackluster range of devices that have been available and yet that hasn't happened. Aside from Amazon releasing an updated Amazon Fire tablet, we're still waiting for practically anyone that's anyone in the tablet world to release something new and fresh. As such, we're left in the same position as we have been for months now; looking towards last year's tablet offerings for answers on what to buy for this year.

10. Samsung Galaxy ViewSamsung Galaxy View Verizon

When Samsung announced the Galaxy View, a lot of people were wondering if Samsung were serious or not. The certainly were, but the end result has become a large tablet that, thanks to some lower-end specifications, hasn't exactly aged all that well. With just a 1900 x 1200 display, the Galaxy View is basically an 18.4-inch tablet that you can take with you. It might run Android, but its too unwieldy and too large to actually use in your hands, and it's fairly pricey for a machine of its mid-range specs and limited use cases.

09. Lenovo Tab 3

Lenovo TAB 3 10 Biz MWC AH 1

Lenovo has been producing some pretty great Android tablets over the past few years, and their Tab 3 line is the latest in their budget offerings. Available in a multitude of sizes, both the Tab 3 7 and 8-inch varieties are available for less that $150, and the larger, 10-inch business model costs just $200 and offers a Full HD display, 2GB of RAM and some extra niceties as well. As budget Android tablets go, these Google-powered Lenovo Tab 3 options are pretty hard to beat and they should definitely be looked into if you want something cheap and cheerful that doesn't compromise too much on specs or features.

08. Amazon Fire, Fire HD

Fire HD 6 deal

The $50 Amazon Fire tablet was recently updated with some more internal storage, a bit of speed boost and more color, which makes Amazon's Android tablets even better offerings for the money than they've ever been. Of course, the Amazon Fire, as well as the more capable Fire HD tablets don't come with any Google services and instead rely on Amazon's services and the Amazon Appstore. For the most part, this won't cause the average user any problems, but the Play Store isn't included here, and a lot of people entrenched with Google services will find it difficult to adjust.

07. Google Nexus 9

AH Nexus 9 - 3 Chris-57

Just recently, the Nexus 9 was removed from Google's own store, which pretty much spells the beginning of the end for the Nexus 9. By end we mean an inability to purchase it directly from Google and perhaps the sign of support for the tablet ending either at the end of this year or early next. Regardless, it's still available from Amazon as well as HTC, and if you're looking for an 8.9-inch tablet with great speakers, then the Nexus 9 is not a bad tablet. It's not an entirely exciting tablet, but as we found in our original review it's certainly a capable and respectable tablet.

06. Dell Venue 8 7000

Dell-Venue-8-7840-AH-03546

The Dell Venue 8 line of Android tablets is certainly starting to look a little long in the tooth, but its age offers users one of the more unique designs we've seen in an Android tablet for some time, and it has some cool party tricks up its sleeve, too. Being able to measure thing using some cool technology from Intel is just one of them, but the 8-inch OLED display is certainly the main attraction and for a lot of users, it'll be worth paying the premium for it. With Intel on the inside and great looks on the out, this is one of the most interesting smaller Android tablets out there.

05. NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 AH-149

If the original NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet wasn't quite good enough for you, then this follow-up should solve that. The new Tegra K1 processor under-the-hood of this version make games look even better and run even smoother. It's also got a lot going for it in terms of display quality, too. Still, this is just an Android tablet with some great gaming prowess, which is great for a lot of users, but not for everyone. It's not an especially good-looking tablet, either. Considering that the controller costs so much as well, the SHIELD Tablet can become a pricey option, but if you're all about the gaming, this is the tablet to get.

04. Lenovo YOGA Tab 3 Pro

AH Lenovo YOGA Tab 3 Pro-16

Despite having a mouthful of a name, this is one of the better tablets to get if you're looking to do a little bit of everything. The long battery life ensures extended use over most other tablets, and the stand-come-handle-come-hook is something no other Android tablet can offer at this point. The 10.1-inch Quad HD display looks great and when combined the four speakers and Dolby Atmos processing, this is a great tablet for entertainment. Things only get better, however, when you start to use the rear-firing HD projector, which gives you a cinema to use whenever you want and wherever you might be.

03. Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

Xperia Z4 Tablet AH 19

When it comes to tablets that do a little of everything, the Xperia Z4 Tablet is right up there with the best of them. It's got a great 10.1-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 810 and 3GB of RAM running the show, and it's less than 7mm thick to boot. It's also dust and water-resistant as well, which makes this a tablet you can use in the bath or whatever else is unadvisable with other tablets. The included keyboard dock and tweaks to Android made by Sony make this one of the best Android tablets out there for getting work done and while it's damn pricey, you do get a lot for your money, as we discovered.

02. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 – 9.7-inch

Galaxy Tab S2 IFA AH 20

Looking for an iPad that isn't an iPad? The Galaxy Tab S2 is a great option to look into, the 9.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display looks as good as it sounds, and Samsung have made some thoughtful changes to Android for the better with the Galaxy Tab S2. With some nice extras and such, this is one of the best Android tablets to do it all and add in some extras as well. For the average user with some money to spare, this is easily the best option to go for, but those looking for a little more do have one more option to look into…

01. Google Pixel C

Google-Pixel-C-AH-NS-24

The Google Pixel C did not get off to a good start, but now it's become one of the most exciting Android tablets out there, and with Android N getting better and better in its preview, the Pixel C is shaping up to be the tablet it should have always been. With a great display, great internals and a fairly decent keyboard given its size, the Pixel C is a great piece of hardware. Our original review found that the software wasn't quite on par, but now that Android N is making changes all over the place, this should no longer be much of a problem in the future, and the Pixel C should be the shining light of Android tablets that Google want it to be.

Mobile releasing Android 6.0.1 update to Galaxy S6 Edge+

The Samsung Galaxy Mega left Samsung Galaxy S4 center and Apple iPhone 5 are shown. With a screen measuring 6.3 inches diagonally the Galaxy Mega is almost as big as a 7-inch tablet computer

Initial Aforesaid said that Galaxy Note 6 is said to come with expandable storage support. The one that turns out the best in the testing shall be preserved as the new design for the phone, however the internal specifications have been already finalized. "The new device might feature a Snapdragon 823 chip or a new Exynos processor, likely depending on the region, along with Android N software".

If rumors prove to be true, the next Samsung release will definitely change the whole perspective of the consumers when it comes to high-end gadgets.

As stated in the listing, the Samsung Galaxy C7 (SM-C7000) is said to sport a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with full HD (1080p) resolution and Super AMOLED.

Now that Samsung has shifted their focus on the upcoming release of Galaxy Note 6, can fans expect an earlier release than expected?

Samsung has started seeding Android's 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to Galaxy Tab S2 9.7-inch variant users in Germany.

The sad part, however, is that Samsung will only release one version of the handset, which means that users can only get either a flat-screened Note 6 or a curved one.

However the company did introduce curved screens to the Galaxy S series, which has curved edges on both sides.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is a very significant update which brings out a lot of new features such as a new battery saving feature, a ton of bug fixes and general optimizations and a lot more. RAM on board the device is expected to be around 6 GB as more and more smartphones are coming out with it. It is paired with an Adreno 506 graphics processing unit along with 4 GB of RAM. Parent Herald previously reported Galaxy Note 6's camera features include face detection, auto focus, optical image stabilization and LED flash.

We have yet to see the Galaxy Tab S3 but while waiting for its official release, Samsung still has the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 to sell and update.

Both the Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 handsets came with a 16-megapixel main camera, but the S7 has only 12 megapixels.

Surface Book, Surface Pro 4 are now Siemens Solid Edge certified

There are also other reports claiming that Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 might even come out sometime later this year, probably around October 2016, while others claim that the release could even be moved until early 2017. We would presume that Microsoft would wish to release it yearly, and allow it to take full advantage of Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, but that could be wishful thinking. It makes sense, Foley said, that Microsoft would want to time the Pro 5 and Book 2 releases with the Redstone 2 deployment to best showcase the software's enhanced features and capabilities.

With possible launch of MacBook Pro at WWDC in June, Microsoft has up the ante and chose to release their Surface Pro 5 just ahead of Apple's big launch, this coming June.

Northern Voice Online reported that the American software giant has made a decision to roll out the tablet hybrid before the release of Apple's MacBook Pro Air and Pro 2016. And it goes without saying that you won't get the same premium experience with a Chinese clone, but many people are willing to trade that in exchange for a better price. According to TechRadar, there is a theory in early 2017 that the upcoming Surface Book will have "Kaby Lake", which is a 14-nanometer processor from Intel.

The devices, however, feature USB 3.0 ports and support for stylus, so it's very clear that it was created to boast the same features as the Surface Book.

The specs under the hood is said to be headed by the Intel's newest Skylake processor.

Microsoft has announced today that its Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book have been certified by Siemens for use with Solid Edge, one of the world's leading CAD programs.

Microsoft also used this opportunity to share an interesting Surface Pro 4 use case through the work of Phillip Norman, an artist and self-taught engineer using a Surface Pro 4 to run his robotics company called Ross Robotics. It was praised by Forbes for its modularity because it can transform into a tablet, notebook, and even a desktop with its docking station.

Magic happens with the Ubuntu tablet

    ubuntuhero.jpg

    Image: Jack Wallen

The naysayers are going to get a bit riled up at this, but I have seen the future of tablets and the future is Ubuntu.

I've been testing and using tablets and smartphones for a long time now. One of the conclusions I've always

seemed to draw is that, if I'm being truly honest with myself, I very much prefer working on a desktop or laptop. Why? Because I can actually get my work done. Much of what I do is cumbersome (at best) on a mobile platform. Graphics, recording, document editing...the mobile platform has yet to serve those needs with any level of satisfaction.

    Until now. Until Ubuntu.

I've tested the Ubuntu Unity 8/Mir preview release on a standard laptop and I can tell you this...it offered none of the "wow" that the bq Aquaris M10 tablet (running Ubuntu Touch) had to offer. Let me explain.

    First impression

When I opened up the box, turned on the unit, and entered the usual information (name, security, location, blah blah) I was taken to the same interface I'd been using with the Ubuntu Touch smartphones I have in my possession. I've been very vocal that Ubuntu Touch is close, but still lacking. On the tablet side of Touch, things get a little easier to use. The interface makes a bit more sense.

It was time to dig around. The first thing to grab my attention was the inclusion of LibreOffice. Naturally I assumed it nothing more than a reader app (so you could view LibreOffice documents). I fired LibreOffice up and, much to my surprise, it was the full-blown app (Figure A).

    Figure A

    Figure A

    Figure A

    Image: Jack Wallen

LibreOffice running on the bq Aquaris M10 tablet.

The only issue with running the full-blown version of LibreOffice on the Ubuntu tablet is the toolbars, menus, etc. are on the small side of resolution, so you better have your 20/20 or your readers at the ready.

Next on the surprise list was The GIMP. That's right...the flagship, open source image editing application is ready to go on the Ubuntu tablet (Figure B).

    Figure B

    ubuntuc.png

    ubuntuc.png

    Image: Jack Wallen

Working some book cover magic on the Ubuntu tablet.

This isn't some watered-down, mobile version of The GIMP, this is the real deal. Everything you can do on the desktop version, you can do here.

The goodness continues on, in similar fashion, as I dig into the tablet. And then...I connected a wireless mouse and things get really, really interesting.

    Convergence is real

The second the Ubuntu Tablet connects to the wireless mouse, it switches over to desktop mode. That's when the real "magic" happens. All of a sudden I'm working on a tablet that is in full multitasking mode. Windows act like windows...in the traditional sense (they can be resized, minimized, everyone you've grown used to on the desktop - Figure C).

    Figure C

    Figure C

    Figure C

    Image: Jack Wallen

The Ubuntu tablet in Desktop mode.

With the tablet in Desktop mode I can actually get my work done...in a similar, efficient manner as I would while standing at my desk. When I don't need the full power of the desktop, I can switch off my mouse and the tablet will automatically revert back to standard mode and I'm good to go.

    The one caveat

You knew the system wasn't going to be perfect. The only issue with the Ubuntu Tablet is when you switch to Desktop mode, you lose some power. There's some significant lag in the cursor movement and apps don't open nearly as quickly. This is a tradeoff I'm willing to make, however, as I never expected a tablet to be able to run the likes of The GIMP with much in the way of speed found on the desktop. And considering Desktop mode is in its infancy, you know it will only improve as more updates are pushed to the devices.

    The conclusion

If you're looking for a tablet that will allow you to get your work done, one that won't break your bank (the M10 currently runs for around $260.00 USD - purchase here), and one that can serve nearly all your needs (from mobile to desktop), the Ubuntu Tablet has you covered. Once Ubuntu Touch matures, this device will be a game changer...of that there is no doubt.

    Canonical, I am seriously impressed.

Apple's 9.7-Inch iPad Pro Delivers Versatility in a Smaller Tablet

REVIEW: Take the best of the iPad Pro and the best of the iPad Air 2, add some features and you have the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

When the new Apple 9.7-inch iPad Pro arrived I soon found myself in a quandary. I placed it on my desk next to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro I bought back in November and I liked them both. Once I'd loaded my apps and other content on to the new iPad, my quandary became more intense. Which iPad would prove to be better, I wondered. On one hand, the big iPad had all of that screen real estate and the ability to display photos with remarkable resolution. The screen was large enough to display documents side-by-side, and the keyboard was good enough to use as a laptop replacement. On the other hand, the newer, smaller, iPad was far more portable and it has some features that the big iPad doesn't have, including better cameras and handy things such as the ability to use the screen as a flash for taking selfies.Apple also included the Smart Keyboard, the Apple Pencil and a couple of attachments that addressed concerns that I'd had when I wrote about the larger iPad last year. Those attachmen ts are an SD card reader, and a powered USB 3.0 port. The intervening time since the release of the first iPad Pro means that a number of apps, including Adobe Photoshop Mix and Fix as well as Photoshop Sketch can make good use of both the iPad Pro's processing power and the Apple Pencil that had previously not been particularly useful because of the lack of software. There are also several other imaging and sketching apps that support the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil. The Smart Keyboard is similar to the one that is available for the larger iPad and the primary difference is its size. Typing on it is easy once you get used to the smaller scale. Like the larger version reviewed last year, the keyboard attaches to the long side of the tablet where there are three contacts to provide power and a data path.In other respects, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is similar to the iPad Air 2. It's the same size and weight, the same thickness and the display has the same resolution. However, like its larger sibling, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro can handle RAW images, something earlier iPads can't do. That coupled with the 264 pixel per inch density can result in images that are breath-taking in their clarity. In addition, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has much better color saturation than the screen on the iPad Air 2 and according to Apple it uses the same wide P3 Color Gamut used by the new 27-inch iMac.The improved cameras are a significant difference between the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and all earlier iPads. The new iPad has a 12 megapixel camera on the back with a flash and an advanced autofocus system using Focus Pixels similar to the system on the iPhone 6 and 6S. The new iPad Pro will also shoot 4K HD video with continuous autofocus for video. On the front there's a 5 megapixel camera.

Microsoft Surface pro 5 Early Look, Release Date and Specs Rumors

By Jude Abastar , Christian Post Contributor

    April 25, 2016|9:08 am

There are two things that Microsoft users are so excited about in the rumored unveiling of the Surface Pro 5; one is the fact that it will be a hybrid of a laptop and a tablet, and the other is the rumor that it may be bringing with it the next generation processor that will take over the current Skylake.

    Surface Pro 3REUTERS/BRENDAN MCDERMID

The upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to be significant upgrade to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (pictured).

Whether or not the rumor about the next-gen processor is true, the release date for the new device remains to be uncertain. Intel's next generation chip is rumored to be named Kaby Kale, which is designed to become the 14nm successor of Skylake. Its two main features are the native support for USB 3.1 and the latest graphics architecture.

    Rumored Features

Well, at least the screen size of the Surface Pro 5 will be the same, but the resolution is certainly going to be upgraded to 4K pixels since that has been the request of many users. If indeed the resolution is rejigged, it means videos will be sharper compared to the previous model.

An intriguing add-on, again, if it comes out to be true, is the integration of a magnetic charging dock that is capable of charging the phone and the stylus. And yes, you've heard it right – the stylus is going to be rechargeable. We bet that's the first time we've heard of such feature.

But if there is one thing Microsoft needs to improve on this new hybrid device, it has to be the battery capacity. A more powerful battery is something the designers can never ignore because it may have been the most popular complaint from users of the Surface Pro 4. It's really confusing why they would put up a very fancy device only to limit its usage hours. The best they can do is perhaps give this new one at least seven hours of video playback.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release update: Tablet hybrid to pack Intel Kaby Kale processor?

Washington: Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is going to release soon and rumors are strong that the new device will become the first device to come loaded with the Intel's next generation processor chip dubbed as Kaby Kale.

The upcoming Surface Pro 5 laptop-tablet hybrid will reportedly be powered by the current Skylake processor. Some other reports stated that it will be supported by the next generation Kaby Kale chipset, which is the 14nm successor of Skylake. This processor comes with a USB 3.1 support and new graphics architecture that will further improve the performance of the system.

Besides the more powerful processor, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will also include the same screen size, but the resolution will be upgraded to 4K pixels, which makes videos and images clearer and sharper. It is expected that the new device will come with magnetic charging dock that possibly charges the phone and stylus. Rumors are swirling that the stylus pen would be rechargeable.

With all these upgrades, the Surface Pro 5 will boasts of a more powerful battery. It may be recalled that the current Surface Pro 4 received flak from consumers because of its weak battery life. Surface Pro 4 only boasts five hours with video playback. The new Surface Pro 5 could extend up to seven hours.

Latest rumors claimed that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release will happen next month before MacBook Pro Air and Pro 2016 launch. If rumors proved to be true, the device may be released later this year to early next year since Kaby Kale processor will be ready by late 2016.

No Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0, 9.7 Marshmallow release date yet

It's now been almost a year since Samsung released the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 and 9.7 Android tablets, and so there are many fans that presume we are likely to see some sort of refresh next month. However, we know that when it comes to their tablets, Samsung never usually follows the same release pattern as they do for their flagship handsets, the latest of which is the Galaxy S7.

So while the jury is still out as to a new Galaxy Tab A 8.0 and 9.7 model update for 2016, our attention now turns to the current versions and the upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

It was back in February that Samsung confirmed that both Tab A tablets were getting the Marshmallow update, although there does not seem to be any specific date as yet.

No Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0, 9.7 Marshmallow release date

This is very concerning seeing as though these tablets are now 11 months old, and Android 6.0 has been available since late 2015.

The latest information that we have found in regard to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0, 9.7 Marshmallow release dates from a Tweet that you see above that states the update for Galaxy Tab A is under development, which is said to have come from the Samsung Support Center.

We just do not understand what's taking so long, especially as Android N is already being previewed, although this is the very nature and the reason so many of you are reluctant to make the jump from iOS to Android because of such slow support for non-Nexus devices.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release update: Tablet Hybrid To Pack Next Intel Kaby Kale Processor?

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release will reportedly happen soon and the device is rumored to be the first device to pack the Intel's next generation processor chip dubbed as Kaby Kale.

Reports claimed that the upcoming Surface Pro 5 laptop-tablet hybrid will be powered by the current Skylake processor; other reports stated that it will be supported by the next generation Kaby Kale chipset, which is the 14nm successor of Skylake. This processor also has a native support for USB 3.1 and new graphics architecture that will further improve the performance of the system.

Aside from a more powerful processor, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will also include the same screen size, but the resolution will be upgraded to 4K pixels, which makes videos and images clearer and sharper. The tablet is also suspected to arrive with magnetic charging dock that possibly charges the phone and stylus. This being said, the stylus pen is predicted to be rechargeable, according to a patent filed by the Redmond-based tech giant.

With all these upgrades, the next generation of Microsoft Surface Pro tablet will be supported by a more powerful battery. The current Surface Pro 4 received flak from consumers because of its insufficient battery life. Surface Pro 4 only boasts five hours with video playback. The new Surface Pro 5 could extend up to seven hours.

Recent rumors claimed that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release will happen next month before MacBook Pro Air and Pro 2016 launch. However, if rumors proved to be true, we may see the device later this year to early next year since Kaby Kale processor will be ready by late 2016.

However, there is no official announcement from Microsoft yet.

Skype UWP Makes Group Calls in Windows 10 Preview Builds

Users can conduct group Skype calls, take Windows Ink for a spin and check out more Anniversary Update features in the latest Windows Insider test build.

Members of the Microsoft Windows Insider early-access program can now communicate as a group using the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version of Skype, the company announced April 22. UWP apps are code-once affairs that can run on a variety of Windows device types with little to no modification of the underlying code. The updated Skype UWP Preview app, available in the Windows Store app marketplace, now enables users to make group video and audio calls and conduct group chats. To help users recover a little more gracefully from typos and auto-correct errors in chat messages, now Skype allows users to edit or delete messages. Users can also now classify any person or group as a favorite.Soon, a mobile version of the app will synchronize conversations across Windows PCs and smartphones."The mobile release of the Skype UWP Preview app will bring you features you've asked for—like group calling and more—while leveraging the benefits of the Skype integration into Windows 10 you previ ously experienced, like a single view of your SMS and Skype conversations," wrote the Microsoft Skype group in a blog post. "This way you get the best Skype experience possible and you can take it across your Windows devices." Windows Ink, one of the hallmark Windows 10 Anniversary Update features announced at this year's Build developer conference, is making its debut in a preview build (14328) ahead of its release this summer. Windows Ink adds native digital inking support to the operating system and apps that support it, like Office, Maps and Microsoft Edge. On devices with stylus-based input options, Windows Ink enables users to create digital whiteboards, write sticky notes, annotate Office documents and generally interact with apps in new ways. In the Maps app, for example, travelers can determine the distance between two points and sketch out routes that the app can overlay atop 3D maps.Build 14328 also brings an updated Start menu, with a streamlined apps list that combines "most used" and "all apps." Power, File Explorer and Settings always remain visible after having been moved to a "rail" that appears on the left side of the menu.In tablet mode, users can find apps in a full-screen view that is reminiscent of the divisive Windows 8 Start Screen. "The grid-like implementation of the full-screen All Apps list aims to provide efficiency while taking advantage of the additional real estate on the Star t screen on a tablet," blogged Gabe Aul, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Engineering Systems Team, in an April 22 post. "Specifically, we looked at striking a balance between density and 'scan-ability' (how easy it is to scan the list to find the app you want)."With the ability to comb through documents, photos, music or videos on the OneDrive cloud storage service, Cortana can now cast a wider net during file searches. The virtual assistant can also be invoked from the lock screen and can be used to answer simple questions, search the Web for answers and find documents without signing in.

Surface Book 2 release date, news and rumors

    Surface Book 2

Microsoft released its Surface Book 2-in-1 in October 2015, calling it the "ultimate laptop." It sports a detachable screen, Surface Pen support, Intel "Skylake" dual-core processors and Windows 10 Professional.

Despite the tasty list of hardware specs, the 2-in-1 didn't arrive without a few hiccups. There were some complaints surrounding the "Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge" including a gap that's formed when the laptop is closed. The Clipboard tablet portion of the device has a low battery life, and the pricing is rather steep on the higher end.

So, you can tell that we're not the only ones already clamoring for Microsoft to improve on an already promising formula. Enter the (would-be) Surface Book 2..

    Cut to the chase
  • What is it? The would-be second Surface Book device
  • When is it out? Current rumors point to late 2016 or early 2017
  • What will it cost? Likely as much as - if not a bit more than - the current Surface Book
  • surface book 2

    Surface Book 2 release date

Naturally, the company has not officially announced the product given that the Surface Book launched mere months ago. However, it's easy to speculate that a follow up is in the works, and could possibly arrive by the end of the year, next to the Surface Pro 5.

But, here's the thing: Microsoft's Anniversary Update slated for this summer is widely believed to be part one of two "Redstone" updates slated to arrive on Windows 10. Recent rumors indicate that Redstone 2 (RS2) wouldn't arrive until sometime early 2017, next to new branded hardware devices and the long-awaited Surface Phone, all of which will take direct advantage of the new RS2 features.

Added to this early 2017 theory is that the Surface Book 2 is expected to use a "Kaby Lake," 14-nanometer processor from Intel, which is slated to go into volume production at the end of the year. This processor family will offer native USB 3.1 support, Thunderbolt 3 support, feature up to four cores as the default configuration, and better performance both on the CPU front and GPU front. Windows 10 will be the only Microsoft-based platform that will support these chips.

    surface book 2

    What we want to see

For as much as we've been smitten by the Surface Book, firmware issues aside, there will always be room for improvement. (That would be the case even if it had earned top marks from us.)

From the screen size and resolution to the hardware inside, we have a few ideas for how Microsoft could craft an even better Windows 10 tablet.

    An even better screen

The upcoming Intel "Kaby Lake" processor will undoubtedly be needed to power the rumored, higher-definition screen that's slated for the Surface Book 2. The current model sports a 13.5-inch display with a 3,000 x 2,000 (267 ppi) resolution that's backed by an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 GPU.

The new model may utilize the same-sized screen but offer a 4K resolution: 3,840 x 2,160. This rumor is aligned with public information we've seen about Intel's "Kaby Lake" architecture, which will supposedly include a better graphics architecture that improves playback of 4K video and 3D graphics.

With a higher resolution should come a better way to actually detach the screen from the keyboard. That's one of the biggest complaints surrounding the current Surface Book unit: the hinge's locking mechanism featuring Microsoft's "muscle wire."

This scheme not only requires electricity to work, but that users must press and hold down a key until the hinge lets go of the tablet. It's software-based, too, meaning the process could be hampered by an unforeseen glitch in the system.

Thus, the Surface Book 2 needs a functional hinge that allows the keyboard to be detached whether the device is on or off.

    surface book 2

    We need more power

Of course, with an increased screen resolution comes the need for more power. The "Kaby Lake" architecture is said to support processors with a thermal envelope of up to 95 Watts (W), which isn't too shabby, meaning it shouldn't be a battery hog with increased performance.

But the Surface Book 2 will need better battery support overall, as the original provides a 4-hour battery in the Clipboard and an 8-hour battery in the base (based on our tests). Customers will want to use the Clipboard on its own, and its current battery will likely not provide those 4 hours when watching 4K content.

An improved battery would also be needed to support a built-in recharge dock for the Surface Pen. The current device is powered by a standard AAA battery, but a patent reveals that Microsoft is shooting for a stylus with a built-in rechargeable battery.

This is a rather old patent, but it wouldn't be surprising nonetheless if the company pushed forward with a rechargeable Surface Pen for the Surface Book 2, even more so given Microsoft's current focus on providing better stylus support in Windows 10. The new pen will supposedly feature an LED indicator light and a power button.

More power might also be needed for an updated, discrete GPU option, too. As previously stated, the current model has an option for a Nvidia GeForce graphics chip based on the "Maxwell" architecture, which has a thermal envelope of up to 75W.

If Microsoft were to offer the notebook version of, say, Nvidia's GeForce GTX 980 graphics chip, the power requirements would shoot up to 145W. Alternatively, the slower GeForce GTX 980M chip would use less power (100W) while still supporting DirectX 12 in Windows 10, but require more juice than the current discrete GPU used in today's Surface Book.

What would make the Surface Book 2 really shine is if it were to be VR-ready. That means installing additional ports into the current configuration that merely includes two USB 3.0 ports, a mini DisplayPort and an SD card reader.

The missing ingredient here is the required HDMI 1.3 port supporting a 297MHz clock by way of a "direct output architecture." That means the external video output pumped through the HDMI port cannot be locked to the laptop's integrated GPU.

    surface book 2

A race to beat its new rivals?

Despite a good deal of talk about when the Surface Book 2 will be released and what it will contain, there are several reports (with dodgy reliability) speculating that the device - along with the Surface Pro 5 - will be released this summer alongside the Anniversary Update. The reasoning behind this theory is that Microsoft wants to beat Apple to the market before the fruity company unleashes its new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (2016).

Again, given the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 are fresh off the presses, releasing follow-up models this soon seems highly unlikely.

However, what seemingly backs up this theory is that Microsoft knocked $150 off the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book on April 8 and April 9 in a possible attempt to clean house and get ready for newer models. This may just be coincidence, but it's hard not to put two and two together and come up with a possible summer 2016 scenario.

Still, despite the sale, the Surface Books are somewhat expensive, a sore spot we hope Microsoft addresses with the release of the Surface Book 2. (For all we know, price-to-inventory could be the exact reason behind said sale.)

That's it for now. There are probably a few easter eggs hiding in the Windows 10 Insider Preview builds that we haven't caught yet in terms of hardware. Microsoft's plans for the Anniversary Update are seemingly rather big, and throwing in new devices shouldn't be totally out of the question.

We're still betting on an early 2017 release for Surface Book 2, but we'll have to play the wait-and-see game as summer 2016 approaches.

Amazon adds colors, ups storage (barely) on Fire tablets

The online retailer announced late yesterday that it had adding more colors and storage options on its Fire tablets (see press release below.

But as you will see, the storage is ridiculously low, 8 GB and 16 GB. It is 2016, no tablet should come with less than 64 GB of storage.

Then again, these are low-end, cheap tablets, meant to get consumers locked into the platform.  The display resolution is low, the camera is low-end, etc. But if you really need a tablet, these are certainly affordable.

TNM has been critical of Apple in the past for its storage options. By having the iPad Air 2's base model be at 16 GB it basically precludes users from downloading native digital magazines, encouraging replicas, and eventually encouraging readers from giving up on digital reading altogether. That is an incredibly self-defeating strategy when it comes to tablet sales. But I am sure it adds a few pennies to Apple's bottom line.

Here, we have Amazon going further.

Here is Amazon's press release from April 21:

SEATTLE, Wash. – April 21, 2016 — Amazon today announced that Fire, Amazon's fastest-selling tablet ever, is getting even better with new colors and more storage options. Fire will be available in three new colors: magenta, blue, and tangerine, and with either 8 GB of internal storage for $49.99 or with 16 GB for $69.99 so that customers can take even more movies, TV shows, songs, books, apps, and games with them on-the-go. The new Fire colors and storage options are available starting today at: www.amazon.com/fire. Fire Kids Edition will also be available with 16 GB of internal storage for just $119.99 starting today at www.amazon.com/FireKET.

"Fire is the fastest-selling Amazon tablet ever, with millions sold since its launch," said Kevin Keith, GM, Fire Tablets. "We're excited to introduce Fire with bright new colors and even more storage—so that customers can enjoy a great entertainment experience on a fun, colorful tablet starting at less than $50."

Millions of customers are already enjoying Fire. For less than $50 it includes:

  • Beautiful 7" IPS display—A great viewing experience with vivid and accurate color reproduction that can be seen at all angles.
  • Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor—Quickly and easily switch between apps, stream movies, and browse the web without waiting for your tablet to catch up.
  • Front- and rear-facing cameras—Video chat with friends and family with the front-facing camera, take and share photos, and save them for later with free, unlimited cloud storage for all photos taken on Fire devices.
  • Up to 128 GB of expandable storage via microSD—In addition to internal storage options, with support for microSD cards, Fire offers plenty of storage to enjoy even more videos, music, games, and photos while offline.
  • All-day battery life—With up to 7 hours of mixed use battery life, Fire gives you the flexibility to go wherever the day takes you.
  • Fire OS 5 "Bellini"—Including an updated user interface that replicates the look and feel of a magazine, making browsing and searching for your content easier than ever.
  • Blue Shade—Uses specialized filters to limit exposure to blue light for a more comfortable nighttime reading experience on a tablet.
  • Amazon-exclusive features—ASAP, X-Ray, Second Screen, Amazon FreeTime, Family Library, Word Runner, and more.
  • World's best content ecosystem—Access to 38 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, magazines, apps, and games—with free, unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content.
  • Fire Kids Edition

Because we don't want kids to miss out on the fun, we've also added a new color and storage option for Fire Kids Edition. Already available in pink or blue, Fire Kids Edition is now also available with a green kid-proof case, and parents can also choose between a Fire Kids Edition with 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage. Fire Kids Edition comes with one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited featuring over 10,000 age-appropriate books, videos, educational apps, and games, access to over 40,000 hand-curated YouTube videos and websites, and our same 2-year, worry-free guarantee—if anything happens, simply return the tablet and Amazon will replace it for free. Fire Kids Edition is available with 8 GB for $99.99, and starting today, with 16 GB for just $119.99 at www.amazon.com/FireKET.

Samsung Galaxy Marshmallow Update Info (2016)

It's 2016 and many Samsung Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners are still waiting for their Android Marshmallow update.

Its been more than five months since Google started rolling out its brand new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

Some manufacturers were quick to release the new update and its changes. Others, like Samsung, have been extremely slow to release the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update.

In February, after weeks of rumors and several days of confusion, Samsung finally took a step in the right direction and we finally have some movement for multiple devices.

    Galaxy-S6-Edge-8

Today we want to take a look at everything we know so far about Samsung's plans for current Galaxy smartphone and tablet owners. This also takes a look at some important details regarding the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, two devices that are starting to ship out to buyers in the United States.

This roundup is going to walk you through the important details about the Samsung Galaxy Marshmallow release and the updates themselves.

The company hasn't confirmed every single Marshmallow update it plans to offer but the roundup includes information about the Galaxy S6 update, the Galaxy Note 5 update, the Galaxy Note 4 update, the Samsung Galaxy S7, and more.

We'll continue to update this as we, and others, receive more information.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 Marshmallow Update

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is rolling out for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in Korea. We've also seen a number of other Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Marshmallow updates roll out around the world.

Marshmallow updates have also started rolling out in India, the United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, Iraq and the Netherlands. More recently, updates have landed for models in Afghanistan, Croatia, Germany, Czech Republic, Nigeria, Pakistan, Italy, Macedonia, Spain, and a whole lot more more.

    Galaxy-S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update recently made it to North America with Sprint users reporting the start of an Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow roll out for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Sprint's also now rolling out an update for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

The Sprint bound Galaxy S6 Marshmallow updates are huge, over 1GB in size, and it delivers a long list of enhancements, features, and bug fixes.

    Galaxy-S6-13

Sprint's since been joined by Verizon and T-Mobile. Big Red recently rolled out its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates and it's now pushing out a Android 6.0.1 update for the Galaxy S6 Plus.

Like Sprint's updates, the Verizon Galaxy S6 Marshmallow updates bring a wealth of new features, enhancements and fixes.

T-Mobile's also started rolling out its Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates. These updates will roll out Over-the-Air to users for several days and bring enhancements and fixes to the former flagships.

U.S. Cellular's website now shows Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates for the Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Each listing comes with a link to download via Samsung Kies.

Telus and Bell users in Canada are also reporting a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Marshmallow roll out. The update is massive, 1.2GB in size, and it brings Android 6.0.1 and a number of enhancements to the larger Edge model.

Fellow Canadian carriers VideoTron and Eastlink are reportedly rolling out Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates as well.

Now that these updates are making their way to North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, we expect more Galaxy S6 Marshmallow updates to follow.

    Galaxy-S6-Android-6-0-1

Telus in Canada was one of the first North American carriers to confirm specific dates for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and it's finally rolling out the Galaxy S6 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to users.

Fellow Canadian carrier Bell originally confirmed the Galaxy S6 Marshmallow update for March but it looks like it's facing delays as well.

The company recently told a Galaxy S6 user that it's hoping to have the Android 6.0.1 update released in April. No date given.

Speck CandyShell Grip Galaxy S6 Edge Case Review - 7

Samsung is reportedly planning Galaxy S6 updates for AT&T (we saw a date pop up for the Galaxy S6 though it came and went without an official release) but release date details about those updates are still missing in action.

Vocal carriers like Rogers (Canada), Vodafone (Australia), Optus (Australia), and Telstra (Australia) continue to remain silent about their plans for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Marshmallow.

    Marshmallow Features

Thanks to the roll outs and the Galaxy S6 Marshmallow beta, we know what the Marshmallow update will bring to the flagship devices.

As expected, Marshmallow brings changes to the update's interface. The update replaces blue with white and it changes the look of several app icons.

The update also features the popular Google Now on Tap feature that allows you to quickly bring up information on whatever you're looking at simply by holding down the home button. It's one of our favorite Marshmallow features. The video above outlines the key features.

Samsung will be rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the most up-to-date version of Marshmallow from Google.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update brings a number of key changes to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge including:

  • Additional quick settings toggles for Private Mode in the status bar.
  • New emoji characters (Android 6.0.1 brought more than 200 to Nexus users).
  • Improved visibility of notification panel icons.
  • If a fingerprint isn't recognized, users will only get vibration feedback.
  • A new 'Install overnight' option that will install an update at night between 2 to 5 AM.
  • Samsung has detailed the changes coming to the Galaxy S6 Edge's panel, some of which can be seen in galleries above.

    Galaxy S5 Marshmallow Update

Samsung is finally starting to roll out the Galaxy S5 Android 6.o.1 Marshmallow update and surprise surprise, it's rolling out to users in Korea.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is reportedly pushing out to users in Korea today. More specifically, it's rolling out to unlocked variants on KT, LG Uplus and SK Telecom in South Korea.

It's also rolling out in Trinidad & Tobago, in Sri Lanka for the SM-G900F, and in the United States for Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Sport users on Sprint. Here is the change log that Sprint's provided:

  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update
  • Google and Samsung Security Updates
  • Bug Fixes
  • The SM-G900F is one of the most popular versions of the Galaxy S5 and its roll out is a sign that we could be getting close to a widespread Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow push for the former flagship Galaxy S.

    Galaxy-S5-Review-4

T-Mobile's confirmed a Galaxy S5 Marshmallow release and it just moved into the "T-Mobile Testing" phase, a sign that its release is getting very close.

The fact that T-Mobile is planning a Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update is a good sign for other Galaxy S5 users in the United States and around the world.

Most carriers are silent about their plans but there's a good chance this roll out will reach everyone.

    Features

As for the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update itself, it reportedly comes with most of Marshmallow's features with bug fixes, improvements to the device's speed, and improvements to stability.

We'll provide more information once the Galaxy S5 Marshmallow update picks up speed. With a roll out now taking place in Korea, a widespread roll out should start soon.

    Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow Update

The first Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 update is reportedly rolling out to the SM-N920C in Cambodia. It's also reportedly rolling out to carriers in South Korea, a logical step for Samsung and its flagship device.

Samsung is reportedly rolling out a second Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 update in Korea to correct some of the problems it found on the initial release.

It's also rolling out in a number of other countries including India with the Middle East an apparent focus for Samsung right now.

U.S. and Canadian carriers are also in the mix.

    Note-5-case

The Verizon Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update is available and it brings new features and enhancements to its version of the flagship smartphone. The carrier is also rolling out a smaller bug fixer that alleviates three problems with Marshmallow:

  • Trouble connecting to the internet
  • Frequent data disconnection
  • Problems while loading files or web pages
  • Sprint is also rolling out the Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to users taking the flagship phone up from Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

As expected, the change log is similar to the other Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow updates that've rolled out elsewhere in the U.S. and around the world. Like the others, it comes with a number of enhancements, features and fixes.

Sprint's updates typically take one to two weeks to complete so Galaxy Note 5 users will want to keep an eye out this week and next for Android 6.0.1.

Elsewhere in North America, U.S. Cellular's confirmed a Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow roll out via its website. Like its Galaxy S6 updates, the listing contains a link to download via Samsung's Kies app for PC.

T-Mobile is also rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to the Galaxy Note 5. The T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update will roll out to Galaxy Note 5 owners from April 18th to May 20th so keep an eye out.

As for Canada, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update has reportedly landed for users on Bell and Telus. We expect others to follow with updates of their own in the near future.Note-5-review-camera-720x4801

Here are a few other things we know right now about the Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow release in North America.

  • T-Mobile has confirmed the Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update.
  • The AT&T Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update underwent a beta and it will reportedly start rolling out soon.
  • A SamMobile report from October suggests that work has already begun on updates for Note 5 models around the world.
  • Rogers, another Canadian carrier, says that the Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update is coming on April 27th.
  • Features

Thanks to the beta and the public roll out, we know what to expect from the Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow update and its features. The video below shows off the early software and it runs down many of the important changes.

For more on the Marshmallow leak, take a look at this full rundown from XDA-Developers. It reviews the update's early performance. For a more recent set of photos, take a look at these Galaxy Note 5 Marshmallow photos. Verizon's run down of the Marshmallow update will also give you a feel for the changes.

In addition to the new features and enhancements, it also looks like the Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.0.1 update is plagued with issues including battery drain, issues with Gear VR and other smaller bugs. These issues have extended to the Verizon Galaxy Note 5 Android 6.o.1 update.

Verizon users are already starting to complain about battery drain, Wi-Fi problems and more. We expect complaints to pick up as the roll out picks up speed.

It's not clear how these problems will impact the overall speed of the roll out (it doesn't appear to have slowed it down yet) but Galaxy Note 5 users will want to be cautious when Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow arrives.

    Galaxy Note 4 Marshmallow Update

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge will both receive Marshmallow updates in the United States and the first batch of updates are pushing out right now.

Sprint is reportedly pushing out its version of the Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update right now. The U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update appears to be rolling out as well.

U.S. Cellular's website confirms an imminent release and another source seems to verify that claim. We expect the carrier's version of Android 6.0.1 to mirror the release on Sprint.

As for the rest of the world, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is rolling out in Europe for the SM-N910C in Poland and its reportedly available for Galaxy Note 4 users in Uzbekistan (SM-N910H).

Galaxy Note 4 users in India should also be on the lookout for the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The update is rolling out right now and it checks in at a whopping 1.4GB. Prepare accordingly.

    Galaxy-Note-4-Tips-Micro-SD

As for the Galaxy Note Edge Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, it's reportedly pushing out in England at the moment. That said, it's moving like a slug compared to Samsung's Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow roll out for the Galaxy Note 4.

T-Mobile's confirmed both updates though neither has budged since last year. They, like the carrier's other Galaxy Marshmallow updates, remain in "Manufacturer Development" purgatory. This likely means that they're still a few weeks away. As for the rest of the world…

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0.1 update recently popped up in a certification at the Wi-Fi Alliance and manuals for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Marshmallow updates have been spotted. These manuals will give you a look at the update's changes.

Look for these updates to pick up steam in April and May.

    Features

Thanks to these roll outs, we know what the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update looks like.

The Galaxy Note 4 update comes with the new Air Command menu that's found on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5. There are also some new icons for applications. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6's update.

It also reportedly comes with the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 feature that allows you to take notes when the screen is off.

    Others

In addition to these popular devices, Samsung will reportedly roll out Marshmallow to the Galaxy A7, Galaxy A8, Galaxy Alpha, and Galaxy Tab S2. T-Mobile's confirmed a Galaxy Tab S2 Marshmallow update.

A leaked roadmap asserts that the Galaxy Alpha will get Marshmallow in June while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8″ and Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7″ will get their Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates in May. A release date for the Galaxy A7 isn't known.

Samsung appears to have confirmed a Galaxy Tab A Marshmallow update though it hasn't provided users with any specific release date details.

On top of all that, the Samsung Galaxy J5 is also expected to get Marshmallow in Europe. Galaxy Club's discovered a manual for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which all but confirms its arrival somewhere down the line.

    Samsung Galaxy S7 Marshmallow Update

As expected, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge both run the company's Android 6.0.1 software.

The two devices, revealed earlier this month at Mobile World Congress, run a unique version of the operating system. You can get a feel for the software in the Galaxy S7 hands-on video below.

It's worth noting that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge do not support Android 6.0's Adoptable Storage feature, a concern given the fact that it only comes with 32GB of internal storage space in the United States.

It's also worth noting that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge come with some additional emoji characters. A full outline of those characters can be found right here.

    Galaxy-S7-vs-S6-back

In early March Samsung rolled out an "urgent" software update for the Galaxy S7 Edge. T-Mobile also pushed out bug fix updates to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

More recently, Samsung rolled out Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge updates with touch screen improvements.

It's also important to know that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates are now available online.

These will be useful if you need to go back to stock software at any point during your time with the Galaxy S7.

    April Security Update

Google is rolling out April security updates to its Nexus devices and Samsung is following suit with some April security updates of its own.

The company is starting to push out March and April security updates to its "major flagship models which means "devices like the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 should be in line for these important patches.

    Galaxy-S5-7

The March security update recently started rolling out in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States and we expect them to hit other regions soon.

As for the contents, the April security update several patches for vulnerabilities. The full list of patches can be found on Samsung's website.

    Swiftkey Android 6.0.1 Update

It's worth mentioning that Swiftkey has been updated to support the new emojis that arrived in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Once Android 6.0.1 arrives for your device, you'll be able to use emojis with the popular third-party keyboard.

    Galaxy Android N Update

Marshmallow isn't here yet but we're already hearing about the successor to the Android Marshmallow update.

    Android-M-L-720x5001-720x5001-720x500

Google's released a Android N Developer Preview that confirms many of the features coming on board the Android N update. Samsung hasn't confirmed anything yet but we're confident that many of the devices listed here will get it.

XDA-Developers recently discovered Android N hints at Samsung's Developer site and it looks like the update could deliver improved stylus support. The site mentions the Edge and it also mentions the company's S Pen.

A more recent discovery on Samsung's Developer site hints at the name Android 7.0. This isn't confirmed yet but it's very possible that this will be the version Google goes with later this year after the Android N beta.

With an Android N release expected sometime this summer, look for Galaxy devices to move off Marshmallow in late 2016 or early 2017.
