WASHINGTON: Rumors about Microsoft Surface Phone are doing the rounds for more than a year now. There are reports about the arrival of the handset from Microsoft in October later this year. Other reports suggest that the tech giant will introduce three handsets with exceptional specs and features to pose a threat before Apple's iPhone.

If you are one of those naysayers who believe Microsoft cannot come out with a smartphone that can challenge iPhone, you are simply mistaken. Who would have thought that Microsoft will become a prominent player in the tablet market?

Now the Redmond based tech giant is the producer of the best quality tablets that is loved both by enterprises and individuals. There is no denying the fact that the Redmond-based firm is now shifting its focus to the world of hardware technologies and as expected the Redmond-based firm is facing stiff challenges. But Microsoft is different from other companies in the way it respond to these challenges and with its plans to release the Surface Phone in October, the company has covered a long way.

Despite many reports implying otherwise there are rumors that Microsoft would release its next big device, the Surface Phone, in the October of 2016. For its part, Microsoft has preferred not to make any official announcement about this device so far. Rumors are strong that the Surface Phone will release along with the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 devices, in the month of October.

Microsoft's Surface Phone is anticipated to come out in three variants – one featuring 4GB of RAM with 32GB of storage, the other with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and a third device will release with a massive 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space.

There are reasons to believe that the Surface Phone will be a flagship device with the highest possible specifications. Microsoft is also not too concerned about the price of the new handheld device because the company is focused on selling the idea of Windows 10 to consumers and manufacturers.

When it comes to specs and features, Surface handset may also have all the functionalities of a Surface gadget packed in a body similar to that of a Lumia phone. It may also be equipped with Intel Atom X3 processor in addition to Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. The design may include a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display in QHD resolution. It may sport a memory of 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage for the base model. Nonetheless things will become clear only when Microsoft launches the handset(s) in the market or speaks out clearly in this regard. And I am sure we will have to wait for both the developments to happen.
