Record and watch your favourite TV shows on tablets with EE

EE does not release numbers for how many people in the United Kingdom are using its TV service, but the company has over a million home broadband customers, and each one is given a free set-top box when they subscribe.

The content transferred to your mobile device can be viewed whenever you want to, with no need for an internet connection, making it ideal for air travel, for example.

The concept was created to set new standards in how consumers are able to access television content.

EE is to allow users of its TV service to remotely record and watch any free to air TV shows as part of an update to its EE TV platform.

Users can now download recorded TV programmes onto their mobiles to watch offline, and keep them for as long as they wish.

Customers can also set and manage their recordings whilst out of the house using the app.

Further content is available via YouTube and My5, as well as a number of paid services, including Now TV.

EE has also updated its mobile app today so the guide experience is the same across your EE set-top box, phone and tablet. The new hub makes it easy for users to view all of their Recordings To Go into one convenient place.

"We're continually looking at ways to offer new, exciting and innovative TV features to our customers and now we've made EE TV truly mobile", said Simeon Bird, director of home broadband and TV at EE.

Any future programmes on free to view channels can be set as a recording to go.

Paolo Pescatore, director, multiplay and media at research firm CCS Insight welcomed the move, describing it as "significant" for EE's mobile centric TV service.

'This underlines the importance of software in bringing new features to market'. He highlighted Vodafone launching its own TV service as well as Sky rolling out a new revamped Now TV box and launching UHD.
