Two arrested; drugs, guns, money seized

A three-month drug investigation led to the arrest of a man and woman on Wednesday and seizure of more than 400 Xanax tablets, 25 pounds of marijuana, firearms and $13,833, according to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. 

Luis Anthony Sanchez Ortiz, 21, of 3031 Sapphire Lane and Virginia Jane Adams, 21, of 1103 Grovemont Drive, were arrested, a news release said.

Ortiz is charged with trafficking in marijuana, conspiracy to traffic marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place with a controlled substance. 

Adams is charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute a scheduled IV controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling with a controlled substance.

According to the sheriff's office, the arrests were the result of an investigation into the sale of marijuana and Xanax tablets.

It led detectives to Ortiz who is reportedly a supplier of marijuana and Xanax, according to the sheriff's office. The release did not detail how Adams was involved.

Detectives on Wednesday executed to search warrants to conclude the case. The sheriff's office seized more than 25 pounds of marijuana, 450 Xanax tables, three firearm and $13,833.

Ortiz is in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1 million bond. Adams is in the detention center under a $50,000 secured bond. 

More charges are pending.
