Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition: 5 Things to Know

A Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition release is confirmed and today we take a look at everything you need to know about this special, limited edition Fallout 4 bundle.

Last year at E3 2015, Bethesda confirmed Fallout 4. It also confirmed a Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition, a limited edition bundle that featured the game and a wearable Pip Boy, one of the gadgets the game's main character uses during his or her journey in the Commonwealth.

The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition sold out within weeks, long before the Fallout 4 release date in November. Needless to say, it was a hit with the gaming community and scalpers looking to capitalize on the lack of supply.

At E3 2016, Bethesda confirmed new Fallout 4 DLC and it's also now talking about a new Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition called Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition. And like the original, there's a good chance this one will sell out.

Today we want to tell you about this new version of the Pip Boy and what you need to know before you put in a pre-order.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition is a brand new Fallout 4 bundle from Bethesda though it's a little bit different from the bundle that arrived ahead of the Fallout 4 release date last year.

Instead of a cheap plastic Pip Boy, this bundle comes with a much nicer Pip-Boy Model 3000 Mk IV model. This is not, as the company puts it, a phone case for your arm.

It has its own integrated screen with its own on board software which allows you take calls, answer texts, or play music through the device via Bluetooth. You can also use it as an alarm clock or a prop when Bluetooth isn't available.

And yes, it has knobs and dials that actually work which is a far cry from the plastic version that released alongside the game last year.

Here are some other key bits of information:

  • Comes with RobCo Industries stand that doubles as a charging base and speaker
  • Ships in a Capsule-Case-inspired tin designated for Vault 111 deployment
  • Stereo speakers in both device and stand
  • Top compartment stores a holotape that's a USB drive
  • Batteries: Rechargeable lithium
  • Recharges on the stand or can be charged while you're wearing it (but you'll be tethered to the outlet)
  • Pip-Boy
  • Exterior Dimensions: 7″ long x 5″ wide diameter to 7″ wide (at widest)
  • Interior Dimensions: 7 1/4″ diameter at smallest point (foam padding allows expansion up to 9 1/2″ – fits most human arms, but if around your wrist is bigger than 9 1/2″ at the smallest bit, you will be sad)
  • Weight: 2 lbs.
  • Stand
  • Dimensions: 7″ wide x 6″ deep x 3″ tall
  • Weight: 3/4 lb.
  • Capsule-Case-inspired Tin
  • Dimensions: 12″ wide x 8 1/4″ deep x 10″ tall (perfect for letter-sized files)
  • Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition Release Date

The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition is currently available to pre-order ahead of an estimated shipping date of November 11th.

Note that if you do put in a pre-order you will be charged the full amount including the cost for shipping and handling.

If you decide to cancel the pre-order, you will be refunded in full.

    Limited Release

Like the original, this Pip Boy bundle will come with a limited supply. So if you're looking to snag one, you'll want to put in an order as soon as you possibly can.

Bethesda says that its initial run will be 5,000 units. It's not clear if the company will offer anything beyond that and there's a chance that it won't.

The release is, for the moment, also limited to the Beth Store and three regions: The United States, Australia, and Canada.

Those looking to pick one up in Asia or Europe will have to wait.

Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition Price

The Fallout 4 Pip Boy Deluxe Bluetooth Edition is far more expensive than the original Fallout 4 Pip Boy Edition.

Instead of $120, this Pip Boy bundle is going to run you $350 plus $10 for shipping. If you live in California, you'll also be subject to $31.51 in taxes bringing the total to $391.50.

It could be cheaper, or more expensive, depending on where you live so you'll want to calculate that before you put in a pre-order.

It Doesn't Work with Fallout 4

It's worth mentioning that this bundle doesn't come with a copy of Fallout 4. You'll need to pick that up separately.

Bethesda also notes that it doesn't "interface with the game." This is a standalone product and functions as such.

Let's start with one of our favorite PC Fallout 4 mods that (fortunately) quickly made it over to the list of Fallout 4 mods for console.

keyNuker creates a key ring in your inventory that hides keys and passwords. With it installed, your MISC tab in on your Pip-Boy is going to be a lot more manageable, particularly if you're deep into the game with tons and tons of items listed.

The screenshot here shows you what the vanilla MISC tab looks like compared to the MISC tab with keyNuker installed. It's night and day.

This is one of our favorite Fallout 4 mods and one that should consider if you're tired of wasting time scrolling through hundreds (many of them worthless) of items.
