Microsoft's release of Windows 10 for PCs and tablets in July is expected to boost enterprise tablet sales, predicted Eric Smith, senior analyst for tablet and touchscreen strategies at market research firm Strategy Analytics.
In addition, the impending release of the Surface Pro 4 tablet should further spur tablet enterprise sales, noted Smith in the release.
Tablet sales in the enterprise segment are also being boosted by the enterprise-focused products and partnerships of vendors such as Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and HP.
Overall, Strategy Analytics forecasted that tablet shipments will make a comeback next year, after contracting 4 percent this year. The market research firm expects a 7 percent growth in tablet shipments in 2016.
This growth will be fueled by replacement cycles, as the hundreds of millions of tablets sold a few years ago will need upgrades.
"As replacement cycles have lengthened for both tablets and PCs in recent years, 2-in-1 detachable tablets have become affordable enough that they will compete for consumer spend of both products. A household could settle on a 2-in-1 tablet for casual use, which can also transform into a dockable mini-workstation when needed for more intensive activities," observed Peter King, research director for tablet and touchscreen strategies at Strategy Analytics, in a statement.
"The existence of the '11-inch or more' tablet screen size category is a great example of the expanding feature set and usage model of the tablet as it plays into the prosumer and enterprise segments due to cost and functionality. Improved processor technologies from the likes of Intel, which enable tablets to be more powerful, thinner, and lighter, are also driving the market," King added, in a statement.
