Microsoft releases major firmware update for Surface Book, Surface Pro 4

These two devices have been getting monthly driver and firmware updates since their release last fall and have finally arrived at a point where their reliability has increased tremendously.

The updates appear to be identical on both devices save for a few driver numbers.

Rumors surrounding the new tablet have continually indicated that it will end up featuring Intel's Kaby Lake processor, though Microsoft has yet to formally address this particular bit of online chatter.

This months updates to Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 cover a full list of components and at least one update is specifically in preparation for next months Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Even though the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 scored well in our reviews, issues have included problems with the display, battery life, and standby mode.

KitGuru Says: It seems that Microsoft is putting a heavy focus on enterprise right now and trying to get more businesses on to Windows 10 and using Microsoft hardware, like the Surface or Hololens. The service will also allow business to lease out Windows 10 on all platforms. These won't be available until next year, though, so it can be safely assumed that the possible launch of the Surface Book 2 will approximately be around the time these components are released. Also, the new firmware will include all updates introduced via Windows Update prior to Thursday's release in case some users have yet to update their device.
