Microsoft popularises 2-in-1 category as OEM partners launch Surface clones

Thus, release dates of devices that will be powered by the new line of processor, including Microsoft Surface Pro 5, will be delayed. However, as Intel pushed back the production of Kaby Lake chipsets to the final months of 2016, it is expected that the new Surface Pro will be not be present anytime soon. Whether or not we'll see a fifth-generation Surface Pro 5 is pure speculation at this point in time, but the rumour mill is already rumbling into motion.

On the other hand, there are also reports that Microsoft has delayed the launch of the device because it wants to release the Surface Pro 5 with its latest operating system Windows 10 Redstone 2. It seems that the reason for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5's delay to 2017 is due to Intel's new Kaby Lake central processing unit (CPU). Ongoing complaints regarding last year's Surface Pro 4 (pictured above) centered around battery performance. The buyers may have to pay little extra to get the version which has a 4K panel. The Surface Pro 5 is rumored to launch with a display with 2,736 x 1,824 pixels, which will still be sharp and crisp. One is that the Surface Pen - the stylus bundled with Surface Pro tablets - will be updated so that it contains a rechargeable battery that charges wirelessly when magnetically attached to the tablet. According to Markus Weickenmeier, marketing manager for Microsoft Surface, this will be a useful feature for consumers.

The additional waiting period may be worth it after all as Surface Pro 5 is expected to be among the first devices to feature the said chipset.

In addition, white Box vendors (combined) shipped 13.3 million tablets valued at almost $750 million total in Q1 2016; by comparison, Microsoft's 1.1 million tablet shipments fetched $950 million due to higher quality products commanding much higher prices.

This weekend, new Surface Pro 5 rumors are doing the rounds.
