Canonical shares details on Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet

A few years back, it seemed like being ahead of the curve with mobile gadgets meant carrying as many as your pockets would allow: you had your phone, maybe a tablet, and packed your bag with a laptop, camera, and no shortage of accessories. And while we still love being packed to the brim and ready for whatever the day throws at us, there's a new focus on simplifying our mobile lives, and moving to devices that do double (if not more) duty. Microsoft's stirred up such interest with Continuum on Windows 10 Mobile, and Canonical's been pushing a similar agenda with Ubuntu on mobile devices, connecting to PC hardware and replicating a desktop experience. Last month we heard a little about the new Ubuntu tablet from Bq that would do just that, and this week Canonical shares further details about the tablet and its release plans.

As rumored, we're looking at a Ubuntu version of an existing tablet, the Bq Aquarius M10. The 10.1-incher gets an HD display, quad-core MediaTek MT8163A SoC, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage, with the option for microSD expansion. The tablet features front speakers, a 7280mAh battery, and an 8MP main camera.

But the hardware's just part of the equation here, and users are going to be most interested in the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet because of the software they'll find on board. While the tablet will primarily use a touch-driven interface, connect a keyboard and mouse over Bluetooth and the UI instantly adapts to take full advantage of your new hardware. And with HDMI-out, you're ready to connect to an external monitor for Ubuntu's convergent experience.

While a price point for the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet hasn't yet been revealed, we do know that sales are slated to begin sometime next quarter.
