(Photo : Microsoft/Facebook) Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 might release this fall, and Design & Trend has revealed five reasons for why it's possible. Rumors are on the rise, and competition is high with Windows 10's arrival on the market. Those that can't wait for it can purchase a Surface Pro 3 now for a reduced price.
Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 is one of the most elusive yet talked about tablets around. With the recent arrival of Windows 10, many tech enthusiasts believe that a Surface Pro 3 successor might debut later this year. Here are five reasons why we think the Surface Pro 4 will release in 2015.
1) The Release Of Windows 10
Windows 10 was released to the public on July 29 as a free upgrade for all devices running Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Even though older Surface models like the Surface Pro 3 can run the operating system just fine, wouldn't it make sense for Microsoft to release a flagship product that really drives its latest software innovations home?
For example, the Surface Pro 3 isn't compatible with Windows 10's facial recognition feature called Windows Hello. This lack of support feels incomplete, but it can be fixed by putting out a product that has the feature built in. A Surface Pro 4 could fit that bill.
2) The Recent Spike In Rumors
Maybe the arrival of Windows 10 spurred this on, but, over the past few weeks especially, we've seen a huge spike in rumors about Microsoft's next tablet. While the information may not be completely accurate, usually such growing speculation means something in the tech world. The more rumors we hear, the more a 2015 Surface Pro 4 release seems possible.
On that front, three major reports headline the push. Business Korea magazine tipped us off that Microsoft was in the process of ordering a large number of super fast Samsung SSDs. Digitimes even suggested Surface Pro 4 fall 2015 shipment amounts from its "upstream supply chain sources." Most recently, Windows expert Paul Thurrott expressed October release thoughts despite saying otherwise a few weeks prior. Something had to make this aficionado change his tune, and the rise in speculation is it.
3) Get A Jump On That iPad Pro
The iPad Pro has been a rumored developing Apple tablet for quite some time, and recent speculation suggests that it could release as early as mid-November. While nothing has been confirmed at this time, most analysts agree that the product will tout a 12.9-inch high resolution display with force touch capabilities similar to the Apple Watch.
These days, Microsoft's Surface line has become an increasingly powerful competitor to Apple's iPad business. Because of this, the Redmond company needs to release a product of its own if it hopes to go toe to toe with Cupertino's upcoming iPad. Recent rumors claim that a Surface Pro 4 would ship in October. That gives Microsoft a perfect little window to breathe before mighty Apple steps in with a formidable adversary.
4) The Surface Pro 3 Is Getting Old
It's not like the Surface Pro 3 is an ancient product, but it has been on the market for over a year. With companies like Apple constantly releasing new tablet iterations, it's been a suspiciously long wait for the Surface Pro 4 to lead the push from Microsoft's corner. After all, previous iterations of the Surface had only been available for about eight months before a new model was shipped. In that sense, the Surface Pro 4 is long overdue.
Especially if its projected release date isn't until Oct. 2015, that Surface Pro 3 hardware will really start to feel long in the tooth by then. Simply put, it's just time for Microsoft to put something else out.
5) The Rise In Surface Pro 3 Sales
The nail in the coffin for an imminent Surface Pro 4 release is that its predecessor has become quite cheep in recent months. Depending on where a shopper looks, it's not uncommon to save hundreds of dollars when purchasing a Surface Pro 3 or compatible accessories.
In the tech world, falling prices typically equate to a manufacturer's need to sell surplus stock of old products before something new is released. When combined with the previously mentioned rumors and threats from other sides of the industry, it seems likely that such liquidation might be what Microsoft is going through right now. Those that don't mind older hardware can get a Surface Pro 3 for less. Its next iteration likely won't be as kind on the wallet.
