It's getting closer and closer to fall time, which means we're closer and closer to new iPads releasing. Here's what we know so far about the iPad Air 3 release and iPad Air 3 rumors.
Like every year for the last couple of years, Apple is expected to announced new iPads in the fall, most notably the iPad Air 3 and the iPad mini 4, both of which are expected to receive generous improvements, especially the iPad mini 4 since it didn't get a lot of attention the last time up.
The iPad mini 3 only received Touch ID capabilities as well as a gold color option, leaving everything else untouched, including the processor, graphics, memory, etc., which made for a disappointing refresh of the smaller tablet.
The iPad Air 3, however, is a rumored tablet that hasn't gotten much attention as far as the rumor mill is concerned, and it could be because the full-size tablet probably won't receive a huge overhaul of any kind like the iPad mini 4 will.
However, here's what we know so far about the iPad Air 3 and what rumors say about the upcoming tablet.
Better PerformanceThis one's a no doubter, just like with every new iPad that Apple announces. The iPad Air 3 will receive a performance boost, most likely with an upgrade to an A9 processor instead of the A8X and most likely sticking with 2GB of memory.
Of course, it probably won't be a huge performance upgrade from the iPad Air 2, as it usually never is, but a faster processor never hurts and if you're in the market for a new iPad, grabbing the iPad Air 3 will be the best option at that point.
Improved CameraIf it's better photos that you're after, the iPad Air 3 might just have the best camera yet in an iPad, as Apple tends to upgrade this department with every new product refresh.
Currently, the iPad Air 2 can take some pretty impressive photos and can even record 1080p HD video, as well as 720p video with the front-facing FaceTime camera. Of course, there might not be a huge difference between the iPad Air 3 and the iPad Air 2, but Apple will hopefully make enough improvements to the cameras that users will notice.
So if taking photos with your iPad is an important feature for you, there's no problem with waiting for the new tablet to release.
Other FeaturesThe iPad Air 3 will most likely keep the same design as the iPad Air 2, which isn't too surprising, but there could be a couple of more features added to the new tablet.
Perhaps the biggest rumored feature is the possibility of stylus support for the iPad Air 3. The original rumor pointed to the iPad Pro and how it could get its own stylus that could also work on other iPads.
The stylus would be built specifically for the iPad and iOS instead of just a generic stylus, coming with hover technology that would allow you to all sorts of things that a normal stylus wouldn't be able to do. Our fingers are crossed with this one, but who knows what Apple has up its sleeves at this point.
Release DateThe iPad Air 3 currently doesn't have a set release date yet, and we probably won't officially find out until the fall when Apple holds their annual iPad event in October. However, there are a couple of interesting reports that have come up recently regarding the release of new iPads.
According to DigiTimes, the iPad Air 3 won't release until next year, which means that Apple could skip the release of the new tablet by a year, but still introduce the iPad mini 4 as usual. Furthermore, BuzzFeed has reported that Apple could announce a new iPad during the iPhone event next month, which is said to take place on September 9.
If both of these rumors are true, it would mean that the iPad mini 4 would be announced next month instead of October, and then the iPad Air 3 wouldn't release until next year. That all seems uncharacteristic of Apple, so we're taking this with a grain of salt, but it wouldn't be the first time that Apple has changed things up.
