Apple has officially sent media invites for an event happening on September 9, where it is most likely to unveil the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
As expected, the exterior of the iPhone 6S looks similar to that of the iPhone 6, which may be a disappointment to some, but not something that should come as a surprise to Apple users. The screen sizes for the 6S will be 4.7 and 5.5 inches, the same as last year's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. However, there are possible changes to the exterior of the new smartphone, including a new color option. There are also rumors that Apple use the aluminum designated for the Apple Watch on the next generation of iPhones, potentially giving the 6S stronger aluminum that is still lightweight.
Of course, the biggest changes on the iPhone 6S from last year's models will be on the inside. The biggest rumor is that the 6S will have "Force Touch" capabilities, which distinguishes between light and hard presses by the user. This feature was first introduced on the Apple Watch, and Apple has also included it on a pair of its Retina MacBooks, leading to speculation that its new iPhone will include it as well.
Camera improvements are also expected on the iPhone 6S. However, there are conflicting rumors about what those improvements will be. One rumor suggests a two-lens system that will make DSLR quality images possible, while other rumors indicate that Apple will instead simply upgrade from 8MP to 12MP. With Apple's acquisition of LinX Imaging, there may be no telling what improvements are possible on the camera's of new iPhones.
As for the release date of the iPhone 6S, September 9 will be day when Apple will unveil the next generation iPhone in a special media event. Apple has traditionally released its new smartphones in the middle of September, so this date makes the most sense, despite speculation that the release date could be moved up to sometime in August. However, with that being an unprecedented move by Apple, September 9 is a safe better for the new iPhone 6S.
